It is important when you haven't got any ammunition to have a butt on your rifle.

Buckle up. I'm going to try something. I saw it on a cartoon once... but I'm almost positive it can be done.

This is just from Blackadder Goes Forth, Corporal Punishment, but it always makes me laugh:

Captain Darling: ''I wouldn't raise your hopes too much, you're guilty as hell, you haven't got a chance.''

Blackadder: ''Why thank you, Darling. And I hope your mother dies in a freak yachting accident.''

An Australian infantry sergeant among the defenders of the airfield at Milne Bay, 1942, when a Japanese officer yelled: "We are coming through!" The sergeant's response: "Pig's [edited]," that was the prelude to the first defeat of Japanese forces in the Pacific.

That which happened is a warning. To forget it is guilt. It must be continually remembered. It was possible for this to happen, and it remains possible for it to happen again at any minute. Only in knowledge can it be prevented.

More Churchill quotes!

When a woman at a party said to him ''Winston, you are drunk!'' Churchill replied ''Yes madam, and you are ugly. And in the morning, I shall be sober, and you will still be ugly.''

Or a major put down on another politician in the house of commons:

''I remember when I was a child, being taken to the celebrated Barnum's Circus, which contained an exhibition of freaks and monstrosities, but the exhibit on the programme which I most desired to see was the one described as "The Boneless Wonder". My parents judged that the spectacle would be too demoralising and revolting for my youthful eye and I have waited fifty years, to see the The Boneless Wonder sitting on the Treasury Bench.''

During the siege of Tobruk in 1941 most of the Australian 9th Division (core of the original defenders) was withdrawn and replaced with British and Free Polish units. One battalion of the 9th remained on station until the breakout that accompanied Operation Crusader. The defenders attacked Axis positions during this phase, and the remaining Australians overran German positions, taking many prisoners. Some German prisoners asked these men who they were. When they replied that they were Australians the Germans said: "You can't be, all the Australians have gone. You are just saying that to frighten us!"
