During their service, vehicles usually end up with different things attached to them. Things like stowage bins, camouflage nets, bergens, knapsacks, spare parts, that kind of thing. In WoT however this isn't really represented, apart from every tank having the odd coil of wire or tent attached. My idea is to remove the aesthetic bits currently on tanks, so they are depicted in a bare configuration. Then, make it so that every, say, 15,000 XP earned per tank, a new extra is unlocked. These are optional and can be toggled on an off. So, every 15,000 XP earned on a tank, an new piece of kit is unlocked and made available for adding to your tank. This would be a way to show your experience with a tank, other than MoE. Basic things that can be unlocked for all tanks would be:

  • Tents.
  • Stowage Bins.
  • Helmets.
  • Rucksacks.
  • Extra machine guns on the roof.
  • Coils of wire.
  • Logs (essential for Russian tanks).
  • Spare road wheels.
  • Spare track link armour (aesthetic only).

After that there would be special things that can only be unlocked on certain tanks. For example, open topped tanks such as arty and TDs would be able to unlock a camouflage net (no additional camo effect), to go over the fighting compartment. German tanks would be able to unlock Zimmerit coatings on the tank. For historical purposes the Zimmerit would only be available to the following tanks: Pz. IV, Panther, Tiger, Tiger II, StuG III, Jagdpanzer IV, Jagdpanther, and Jagdtiger. The following German tanks could also unlock Schurzen (again, for looks only), both over the running gear and around the turret: Pz. III, Pz. IV, Panther, Hetzer, Jagdpanzer IV, and Jagdpanther. For British tanks, there could be divisional colour pennants, like this:

I'm struggling to think of more nation-specific things, so ideas on that front would be welcome.

Any thoughts?

If something like this was added in to the game, that I could change a few aesthetics of my tanks, I'd be jumping with joy, but it can definitely be something left on the sidelines, never being worked on perhaps as much as patches and so on.

I like it! Would be another reason to keep playing a specific tank, and add some flavour.

As for every country, we could have extra tracks on tanks, have helmets, and other accessories, like toolboxes, extinguishers, and medkits on tanks that appear when we have the respective consumable or equipment.

Also here's an idea I've had for a while.

M4 and its variants could have a special equipment that gives them sandbags that reduce HE damage to the hull as well as adding the visual aspects

Sandbag Sherman

How about flags, sometimes placed on tanks for air identification?

More customization is good,  Its always nice to be able to make something "your own".

So I really this idea, Especially the logs, Some tanks lack acceptable amounts of log.

Yep, that'd be good as well. (Minus the swastika of course).

Agreed!

It be nice to have things put on your tank for performing well and/or for accumulating lots of battles/XP in a single tank.

eg:

1,000 battles in a tank -

      10+ kills (Pools)  - - - - -   > Could unlock special camos/emblems/inscrips./parts mentioned by the OP, etc...

A certain dmg. reached - - -

Would love a load of accessories for Amalthea... ;)

Every day a unicorn named Germanica speaks to me & guides me. People may not like it, but fact is, I'd be dead without her in my life.

No, you get to keep the XP, the things are just unlocked and made available when you pass an XP point. And yes, you don't have to have them, they're just unlocked and made available for use if you want.
