Someone yesterday mentioned the idea of making a Finnish tech tree, so here's the basic idea of what I've come up with. Now, there is one problem. All but one (and maybe a half) of the tanks are foreign, only one is entirely Finnish in origin. The rest are either captured or bought from abroad. Explanations therefore aren't really needed for most of them.

Finnish Tech Tree

Landsverk Anti II

This is essentially a home produced Finnish self-propelled AA gun, mounting a 40mm Bofors as armament. It has a rotating turret, and that's about it really. It was also exported to Hungary and modified to become the Nimrod AA gun.

Spoiler

BT-42

A Finnish modification incorporating a captured Russian BT tank chassis with a British 4.5'' howitzer mounted in a big turret.

Spoiler

The rest of the tanks are already in game and are fairly self explanatory.

Now, the emblem. I suggest that all vehicles before tier VII have the standard grey/black swastika (don't worry, its a non-Nazi one), and all at tier VII and above carry the blue-white-blue roundel also seen on Finnish aircraft. If there were political issues with the swastika (not that there's any reason really), all should carry the roundel.

Note: the swastika seen on pre war and WW2 Finnish vehicles is not a Nazi swastika, it is not intended to be such and is unrelated.

Also, it is worth noting most of these vehicles exist in one form or another in the game already. Personally I have no issue with this, but most will and say its pointless. I know it'll probably never happen for these reasons, but just go along with it for now, the Finns may as well have a tree too.

I thought you were going to finish the tech tree, but you only show 2 tanks, and a hard to read outline.  It is far from finished my friend.

Unfortunately, I doubt the Finnish Swastika would be permitted. If the law says you can't portray the swastika, then you can't portray it, even if it has nothing to do with the Nazi's. (And even if it were permitted it would probably be safer not to)

I'm sure that German law is more specific than that.

I don't know of any other countries where it's illegal other than Germany, so not too much of a legal concern.

Yeah, I thought as much.

Or, we could use the roundel like I said!

The Finnish used a lot of captured KV1's

Yeah, I think they had applique armour too. The problem is it doesn't really fit in with any of the other tanks. It could be a premium I guess.

I read that they used 9 -85s between 1944 and 1959.

Personally, I'd prefer a combined EU tree with the BT 42 and Landsverk just because it would avoid the issue of clone tanks. Also, it would allow the BT to be an SPG where it would be most fun to play (it's a turreted Bert with the same gun).

Yeah, I edited it. I remember that they did. I also looked it up and they used T26's and T28's

Yeah, the T-26 is in there as an upgrade to the Vickers 6 Ton.

I don't really know to be honest. I'd have put it at tier IV going to the KV-1 but there isn't really a place for either.

You can't use symbols of banned organizations, or symbols similar enough to be easily mistaken for them. Its ambiguous enough that it would likely be better to not use it, since you could get in some trouble with the Germans if they decided the law did apply.

Yes, I see your point. I like the tree though, good job!

Much like KISS's logo being banned in Germany for being similar to the SS logo even though the members are Jewish.

Maybe. I could see some overzealous lawyers getting it nixed.

I'm still of the opinion that we who can view these symbols should get them for our vehicles and German players get defaulted back to the 'clean' symbols we already have.
