I just wanted to be the first person to post this here.  You know it was just a matter of time before somebody did...  For the record I don't have a problem with the way arty is set up in World of Tanks.  

 

 

I just wanted post this before the anti-arty crowd did.  :trollface:

Apparently in WWII, "war" was a game played on a thing called a gaming console, not an actual, you know, war.  Boy, those history geeks sure got it wrong!

I was a bit busy trying to see what was over the hill in 3rd person to see which one hit me, all i know is that there was an Arty explosion next to me and then I lost 1000 (ish) health. I hadn't come over the hill so only Arty aimed at me.

They had forward observers and scout planes so not to different, besides this game isn't a simulator.

I know all of this. I actually think that photo is a silly comment on how arty works in the game. I have no problem with how arty works, I just wanted to be the first to post that meme.

How do you know you weren't hit?

It doesn't need to change.  As I've said before, it should be able to one shot you.  A direct hit on a tank would leave nothing but a crater and scrap metal.  I'd be okay with a map ping system but that is about it.

Since arty in game is so UP, it obviously does.  But singling out how arty gameplay is rendered while ignoring things like HUDs, automated aiming, and a bazillion other things used by all WoT vehicles, designed to give an idea of how tank warfare worked while still being quick and fun, is ridiculously pathetic.

Pretty much everyone is unanimous that the M53/55 and perhaps the US Sexton are broken, but the rest are balanced.

That is how they do it.  The anti arty crowd like to focus on the one unrealistic aspect of the gameplay that they do not like and ignore the rest.  It gets old quick.  But hey at least it is hopefully limited to one thread now!

Since I know the topic of no arty servers are going to come up sooner or later I'm just going to leave this here as well.  This is something I put together to demonstrate why an option of playing without arty will not work.  I just wanted to get it over here before the original thread is shut down.

 

One idea that has come up repeatedly in the massive influx of arty themed threads is the idea of having a "no arty" option or a "no arty" server.  It is my opinion that this is a bad idea.  Not only will it not work it could very well make the game unplayable.  Here is why.

 

By creating a "no arty" option you will essentially split the player base into two categories.  Those who want to play with arty and those who do not.  Unfortunately this split will not be class representative.  You will see a split that will greatly affect the way the game is played.  I will break this down by class.

 

Light Tankers-  The majority of the light tank drivers will go to the server that includes arty.  There is no easier tank to kill in a light tank then an artillery piece.

 

Medium Tankers-  This one is split, some will go to the server with Arty while others will not.  I think it would be safe to assume that your lighter faster mediums will gravitate towards that artillery server while the slower heavier ones will not.  Once again arty is an easy kill for quick medium tanks.

 

Heavy Tankers-  In my experience Heavy Tankers hate arty.  I would expect the majority of heavy tank drivers to head to the artillery free server.

 

Tank Destroyers-  This one is split in a similar way to the medium tanks.   The majority of the fast TD's would head to the arty server while the slow TD's would choose to play arty free.  I love killing arty in my E-25! :playing:

 

What would this do to the game play?  Well basically it would suck.

 

Arty Free Server-  This server would be dominated by slow lumbersome heavies and Tank Destroyers with some Medium Tanks and very minimal light tank coverage.  There would be a lack of scouting and based off my ingame experience a large amount of camping by nearly all involved parties.  

 

Arty Server-  It would be a free for all.  Think a tier 1 match on Province.

 

It is my opinion that there are really only two options.  Either we play with artillery the way it is currently implemented (possibly with small changes made) or we eliminate it entirely (like Blitz).  As much as some people will hate to hear this, option two isn't an option.  Far too many people have invested far too much money and time into unlocking their artillery pieces for them to simply disappear.  The blowback on Wargaming would be biblical and could possibly kill the game.

One can only hope.

 

I think I'll stop complaining if WGA just removes the presence of the tank for shell arc patterning, since this is the mechanic that is actually causing most of the problem.

I've seen that happen and, yeah, it sucks not to have your shell land where you had it aimed when the target disappears but I doubt it will change as it'd likely result in more fuel for the fire.

I don't know.  Almost half the arty complaints are that "arty is so RNG driven" when I think this single broken game mechanic is really causing a lot of that perception.
