This will be a short one.

A gentle soul asked everyone tonight:  "Why the [edited]are you not unicum"!?  Well, that's sort of like asking why doesn't everyone play basketball as well as Michael Jordan?

Yes, unicums are that good.

Just what does it mean to be "unicum" anyway?  I wanted to know, so I ran the WN7 numbers on over 200,000 XBOX player records (with over 1,000 games played).

Here's the breakdown (percent of population):

Super Unicum - 0.010658198795843617 (top 1.06%)
Unicum - 0.0231477842579347 (top 2.31%)
Great - 0.06943549274519359 (top 6.94%)
Very good - 0.1354990332164809 (top 13.54%)
Good - 0.30158929778504395 (top 30.15%)
Average - 0.5228333831135146 (top 52.28%)

Unicums are amazing at this game:  they win more, do more damage, kill more tanks, ad infinitum compared to the rest of the population.

I see lots of threads about "potato teams" and "idiot players".  Yes, compared to Michael Jordan, most people would look like idiots out on the basketball court.  Does that mean they can't enjoy playing the game?  I wonder if Michael Jordan berates people for sucking at basketball compared to him.  Next time you (unicums) see potatoes, maybe try to have some magnanimity -- by definition not everyone can be in the top 1%!  =)

Unicums are amazing at this game:  they win more, do more damage, kill more tanks, ad infinitum compared to the rest of the population.  Heck, only 12.34% of the population has a greater than 50% win rate.

Went on ahead and gave you an upvote since I agree with your post in general. Not everyone can be good at this game. Some people just don't have the time to dedicate to being good at this game(which is perfectly fine), however I think you need to consider that when players complain about bad teams or bad players on the forums its not just uni's that complain about this. You find plenty of non uni's that do the same thing. What people are complaining about in these threads are players/teams not picking up on the basic fundamentals of playing this game such as looking at the map and understanding if your leaving a flank wide open and having enough common sense to fall back and defend the cap or even helping defend a flank because the team decided to lemming train on side of the map and then being halted by a only a few opfor tanks despite having a numerical advantage.

Just to ask did you run this through wn7 or wn8? or was it a mis-type?

But you deserve a up vote just because of your hard wok doing all this data crunching.

WN7.  There isn't a reliable way to run WN8 right now, as the Expected Values database is for PC only.  Wotinfo does a good job -- but it's just an approximation.

he means WN7.... i don't know why he uses that tbh... but than again WiNdows 7 was better than WiNdows 8 so who is to say WN7 isn't better than WN8 M8?

Ok. I'm sure you know about the limits of wn7 and the way it was gamed that lead to the creation of wn8. But this is not to take away from your point(which I agree with) in the post so please don't take it that way.

I once looked up Jingles rating a while back, and he was dark green, and he's universally looked up to by almost the entire WoT community.  So, I set my goal to be half as good as Jingles and I'll be happy.  Light/bright green for me and I'll consider my goal to be met.

Jingles isn't up looked up to in a competitive sense, he's looked up to because he's basically the grandfather of WoT.

If you want a great PC player look up Anfield, only problem is he like other Super Unicums plays nothing but Mediums

Jingles is looked up to as a funny/ entertainment personally. If I'm watching to learn I would be watching Sirfoch, Anfield, circon, and to a lesser extent QB. But thats me and my opinion isn't really valid so meh.

I mean props to you but WN7 is way to based off of kills and not enough on spotter damage. I can go into a game, get 2k damage and 4k spotter with 1 kill and have a lower WN7 than if I did the opposite. This is why people who predominantly play lights will always have a bad WN7 than people who play mediums more.

Thanks for the sick sig Violet

But when you hit purple in wn8 you most likely hit purple in wn7 too. This is not to measure individual skill but rather the wot community in general.

He already explained why he uses wn7 rather than wn8 is all I'm saying :)

Yes.  My standard is:  does it walk like a unicum (win percent)?  Quack like a unicum (damage)?  etc.  In this case, WN7 "checks out" as a valid instrument.  There is a very strong correlation between all of the performance metrics and the WN7 calculation.

I was curious if there were a lot of "false unicums" on the console (i.e., is it easier to achieve unicum numbers on the console vs. the PC).  The good news is that it turns out that those classifications are valid for console, too!

For example, here is a regression run on the T34 for Expected Damage, base on WN7.  I ran these for all the tanks for damage, win rate and kills.  Everything checks out nicely.

My bad, I forgot to mention the one non Russian Tier X heavy that he plays, which plays like a medium. He barely shows any videos of his E-100 anymore. Everything else has been a steady diet of Centurion/Patton/T-62A

WN7 Based off of kills?  Isn't that what tank warefare is all about?  Unless the game has changed the last 3 months I have been away, killing is what wins the game and should be what your stats are based off of. Anybody can spot but it takes a man/ woman to kill the beast...
