I know T29s never saw combat and were not mass produced but does anyone have any real world evaluation on how the T29 would have fared against the Tiger I?

T29 would win. The Tiger wouldnt have the penetration to go through it, unless at the rear or possibly the sides.

 Screw my elders!!!!

World of Tanks a game where it's 1 versus 29. 15 reds trying to kill you and 14 greens trying to support them. The yellows are your only hope. For signature and stats visit http://wotinfo.net/en/player-stats

this^^^^ more specifically it was designed to fight the king tiger or tiger 2 ,if you will ,,as was the pershing. BTW the only known battle between the pershing and king tiger ,,the pershing destroyed it in one hit.

That battle never actually happened though.

If you are referring to the circulated propaganda video...the Pershing destroys a Panther, not a Tiger II.  It hits the turret wounding the commander on the first hit, starting a fire.  It fires two more rounds at the Panther, completely destroying the tank while the crew bails out.

Tough to speculate on how the T29 would have done...

Just don't forget that by the time the Pershing or T29 (T30 too, maybe?) would have been fielded in any real numbers, they would have been going up against E50, E75, and E100 levels of technology. Presuming a protracted war, of course.

Plus, and more importantly, the Germans would have in all probability been working on cheap wire guided anti-tank weaponry concurrently, forever changing the face of tank warfare (and not in favor of the armored vehicle either). Heck, they were already starting to get 3 stage anti-aircraft missiles operational, which would have effectively bypassed the need for actual Luftwaffe fighters defensively.

Who needs better tanks and airplanes when you can just push a button and make the opposing forces think twice about pressing on..... :trollface::trollface:

They were well under way in developing wire guided missiles. They had the Ruhrstahl X-4 Wire Guided A2A missile and by all accounts the Anti Tank X-7 Rotkappchen was also in devrlopment.

The T29 was designed to fight Tiger IIs, not Tiger Is.

It would roll Tiger Is without casualties.

And both would succumb to the first IS3 they came across....

(which is precisely what put the fear in western allies that ended up starting the whole cold war trip)

What put the fear in the West was the sudden increase in size of the Soviet Union at the end of World War Two, going from just pre-war Russia to all of Eastern Europe (minus Czechoslovakia; now the Czech Republic and Slovakia;, until the Soviet-instigated Czechoslovakian revolution, and Yugoslavia; now Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Slovenia and Croatia;, because Stalin and Tito had a falling out).

The IS-3 was not the major threat you'd think it was when it first appeared at the Moscow parade in 1945. It had a fairly serious defect in that the armour around the pike nose was brittle due to the quality of the steel which, in turn, meant that the armour was prone to cracking, reducing the effectiveness of the armour. The IS-4 was a much better tank and posed a more serious threat, one that the West wasn't really aware of because the IS-4 wasn't in the Moscow parade. The IS-4 wasn't built in anywhere near the kind of numbers that the IS-3 was and the West barely acknowledged its existence. So, let's not be giving the IS-3 more credit that it's due here.

You may have missed the entire point of my statement by getting lost in all those details, as it was just an inference. People who genuinely understand (or even experienced that war) should know the substance of what I was referring to.

A single IS3/IS4/T44/T34/IL2/etc wouldn't cause the impromptu soiling of the top brass's underwear, lol....

Two things we learned at the close of both WWII and Cold War.  German stuff, while advanced enough was generally over-engineered and unreliable.  For instance the Tiger II had an atrocius readiness record and the engine/tranny combo was severly overworked.  The Mause, even more so.

Russian stuff was just generally junk put together by uninspired workers trapped in their go nowhere communist system with little hope of advancement without Party connections.

Yeah, the IS-2, IS-3, T-44, T-54 tanks really were trash.

I'm obviously being sarcastic. The Soviets were putting out better tanks than Germany ever did post 1941+.

What's the point of daydreaming about it? lol Any real tank beats a paper tank on a battlefield. A Panzer I makes short work of even the nicest T29 drawing or wooden mock up. It's not a real tank, to see them battle each other is kinda what the game is for :)

I was saying that an inoperable prototype that failed trials and sits in front of a museum isn't a match for an actual tank. Where are you going with this?

My point was that this battle is possible in the game, not in the real world. You don't have to daydream about it, you can play it out.

No you quite clearly said 'drawing or wooden mock up'.

Also, the T29 series did not fail trails, but rather the war ended so they figured why spend the time further developing them.

And lastly, this game is not a good simulator for a battle, especially as our Tiger is ridiculously over buffed. In a real fight the T29 would have easily beaten the Tiger as it was designed to rip through Tiger IIs.

Tiger E 8.8cm L/56, was more then capable of defeating the Pershing or T29's front hull, as was the Panther 7.5cm L/70. The Tiger B 8.8cm L/71 also had no problem defeating the front hull of either, @ over 1000ms.
