How are points for ranked calculated? It seems i get comparatively fewer, the more damage, kills and xp i get... One match, ~280 dmg no kills 31 points - next match 3 kills 900 dmg 18 points. Can't get it to make sense..

Edit: Both matches were wins.

Hello, The points are based on Winning, followed by your personal performance which is determined by XP. So if you perform well and win you will earn extra points, while if you perform well but lose won't lose as many points.

What do the points go towards?  Is there an end result or reward?

You earn rewards based on the League you reach. You can see the award breakdown towards the bottom.

This I am finding hard to understand. So I was in Plat league, I would come top and drop 1700+ damage and lose 27 points, I would again do really well and lose -28 points. In a game I get 456 or so damage, get killed early on and win 25 points after coming low on the leaderboard but in other games I come top and get +19 and now I get into master league, drop 1945 damage, 652 base xp and lose and only lose 1 point.

it seems to be all over the place

The points are also calculated based on the relative strength of your team (as determined by the Personal Ratings, if I am not mistaken) to the enemy team. Essentially, if you are expected to win you earn far fewer points than if you overcome the odds as the underdog team.

Edited to add: Also, if you are expected to win and your team loses, the penalty is far more severe than if you lose a game that you were expected to lose.

I don't think losing 21 points is fair on my part.

Kinda pointless since the population of ranked battles won't allow correct alignment of teams for skill based MM

Ideally, you need to hope you get placed on a team of bad players that overperforms as a group. Tragically, if you get placed on a team of good players that massively underperform then you lose a ton of points regardless of how well you do individually. Luck of the draw.

And yes, as it is set up it is kinda pointless - not so much because of the population of the ranked battles playlist, but because the MM is not even attempting to match teams based on any skill metric. The MM itself is no different than standard, other than everyone is in a tier V tank (which presents its own set of issues as well).
