I know this doesn't necessarily belong here but i think i saw someone else acknowledge that the german tank forum was slow.  i'm traveling on business all next week and want to get some maximum tankage in this weekend.

Worth it?

What i want to do is teach myself the proper light tank use, spot, keep em lit, track and damage modules, maneuver between left and right flank and the occasional BLAM! on the light armored stuff.  i'm not much of a driver so i always screw up the circle of death so a fast firing gun doesn't really help my playstyle.

Has anyone tried it?  whats the equipment/ammo setup you used?

If you want to learn 'proper light tank use', then I'd suggest that the 28.01 isn't the right tank.  Maybe the T37?

I can have great games with the 28.01 derp, but I can't do it consistently.  Too tempting to rush behind the enemy and shoot their rears, only to do way less damage than I expected and get wrecked.

The ru 251 line was my first foray into light tanks as well.  Don't really remember the VK 28.01 being all that great.  It was fast and maneuverable but nothing else really stood out.  It's on the larger side of light tanks and it's camo isn't the best.

Personally outfit all my lights with coated optics rather than binoculars and forgo the camo net.  Staying still usually is a death sentence for any vehicle, especially for scouts since you're supposed to be forward of everyone else.  I also usually put high octane gas for a little bit more engine power to help get up to speed quickly if things get hairy.  Not sure how effective that is, but it makes me feel better.

Fair enough, you could say i'm a bit schizophrenic with my TT tank choices; the only reason i got to the 28.01 is i tried out the Luchs and fell in love with it and though if i keep going it would only get better and i plan on topping out at the RU 251.  i was platooning with someone the other day and they were in the T37 and said their goal was the T49 w/ Derp and i realized i had an option on the 28.01.

but if your recommendation is to scrap this line and work the american light i got no issue with that, was just trying to make lemonade.

Eh wouldn't say the VK 28 is a bad scout tank, just the 105mm isn't the same as the 152mm on the T49. Especially since you'll likely be up against tiers 8/9 pretty consistently. Up to you if you want to spend the time grinding out a new line but scouting is more about using terrain to spot and avoid getting shot more than just raw speed which you can do in the vk 28 imo.  Plus the SP1c is probably more up your alley vs the bulldog, which is more of a run and gun platform.

It's very Derpy, Fast, big, heavy,
It's a great active scout and flanker, also a great scout killer when using AP shells, as they have just enough pen ;)

Recently 3 marked mine in like 50 battles :P
And it is holding my record in tier 6 scouts assisted damage atm when I picked up 8055 spotting on Westfield :)

Btw
Use HEAT when you know it will pen!

I loved the Vk28 with the derp. It is a ton of fun to use, get it for the fun factor if nothing else.

VK 28 is a good anti-scout, but not much of a scout in general.

Enjoy it while it last!

As PCs light tank changes will be removing the Howitzer :(

I'm not great in it but I find it a lot of fun to play. Needs a good crew with offroad & clutchbreak to help its mobility. If WGA ever removes the howitzer I'll riot, it's what makes the tank, there'd be no reason to play it without it. I use optics/rammer/vents on mine. Check out Tazilon's videos on it if you want more insight.

If you want a really competitive tier VI light, go for T37. It's one of my favorite tanks, if not the favorite, out of all tanks I've played and it can do everything what you want from a light tank. But considering tier VIII lights, RU 251 beats T49 every day.Just make sure you know what your goal is and what tank(s) you eventually want to get.

That being said, I see no point of using the small gun with the VK 28.01 as then it's only a bad version from T37. The derp makes this tank unique and fun, albeit difficult to play. If you get to flank the enemies, shooting HE/HEAT to the rear of reds racks up damage really quick. However at times you might find yourself hitting your head to a wall when doing ~20 damage to the front of heavy tanks. Keep in mind that you are also heavier than most other lights so ramming lightly armored tanks will give favorable outcomes but don't waste your hp if not necessary. Overall not the easiest light to learn proper light tank gameplay but it can still be a very rewarding experience.

100% MoE on the VK 28.01.  But sold it a while back because I needed the crew elsewhere.

I forget the exact set-up.   Mostly HE, few HEAT rounds.     Brothers in Arms, Optics, and for the 3rd I'm not 100% sure, probably Gun Rammer.

Accuracy isn't good, avoid getting into situations where you would need to take out the other target quickly unless they can get taken out with a low damage roll on splash only.

It's good for ramming other light tanks.    (here's a really old clip of a VK 28.01 ram kill http://xboxdvr.com/g.../video/17530468 )
