So I'm a bit stumped in terms of which machine I should get. I know I'll only be able to get one or the other before the op ends. I like the T71 as it has a really sexy paint job. However, I'm not the best at using light tanks and you have to be good at using unarmored vehicles like that. I don't know much of the M4A2E4 except that it has the crappy stock gun with slightly better armor than the regular M4. I also hear that it gives a decent amount of Silver. What do you guys think?

If you're already an experienced player and have some high tier vehicles the Lycan is a good one to have. Effective terrain/map knowledge combined with knowing the capabilities of your opponents can make it an effective scout and super annoying for artillery and slower vehicles.  It's not important if you're not good at light tanks. I didn't even play them until I won the Lycan during Halloween! It's super fun to zip around in and it gets a glowing goat head pentagram for the Halloween mode!

From what you've have said you are not very good at lights.  Also Light tanks benefit greatly from a good crew.  The Lycan maybe a steep learning curve (seeing T X) for you now but, later it may be outstanding as you progress.  I really just started playing lights seriously during this op.  I just 2 marked my Chaffee this evening.  It's a learning curve for sure but, I'm really starting to enjoy it (and if my green teammates will cooperate maybe even more).  With that being said I got the Lycan during the October Monster Event.  I was really bad at it.  It sat in the garage with a 3-18 record.  I don't know exactly the win/loss record now but, it has a winning record with over 30 wins.  The Lycan is the best tank available during the op.  If you seriously need another American trainer that makes silver the Ripper isn't bad but, not great.  It will be a lot more user friendly than the  Lycan.  If the trend continues nothing is ever rare.  The Lycan will probably make another appearance (and hopefully not behind some paywall).

my vote goes to the Lycan T71, but that really shouldn't be surprising coming from me lol

I generally love driving big heavies but have a lack of experience driving tanks that rely on speed and hiding. Hiding is just something I don't like having to do in a game about tanks. That's just me though. I'm tempted to get it as I could potentially learn a lot from using it. The thing is that I have more experience and love driving big heavy tanks but lack experience with less armored vehicles. I always enjoy glass cannons as long as they can do tons of damage. I want to get better at driving unarmored vehicles. Also, I have a ton of tier 3 7 and 8 Premium vehicles. But I don't have any tier 5 tanks. It would be nice to have an op for earning a tier 5 tank.

I absolutely love my Sherman's, but I gotta say the Lycan is a beast when it's fitted out, got an experienced crew, and running consumables.  Since it's so fast, it's geared towards very aggressive game play.  Doing the American Predators Operation was kind of a chore, until I picked this up through the American Dream Machines Operation.  Finished the rest of the 107 kills I needed in a couple days.  Not too shabby of a tank.

The E4 sherman was like my 2nd premium tank.  It was kinda crappy back then, but now it sees much more difficult tanks.  It has good view range, and a fast firing gun.   But it has bad accuracy, and poor pen.  Slightly more armor than the M4, but is less maneuverable.  Not a good trade.  So if you want a medium that can kinda passive scout but can't really run away go for it.   Plus it has a gun that needs APCR to pen a lot of things while needing a lot of shots because it misses a lot.  It basically does everything meh except view range.  With PMM it's it can be passable for experienced players.

My dislike of +/- 1 pales in comparison to my hatred of Loaded Dice.

only reason to get the ripper is the week of premium, gun is terrible and even apcr on it stinks. lycan  is fun but will never bounce so keep moving

Good thing about running Lights is it forces you to read the map and terrain, which in turn filters down when you're using other classes.

The bad thing is Lights have a very steep learning curve, and usually you require a good crew to begin with.

I would say go for the Lycan, but start running a couple of lower tier scouts to build some confidence and experience in the class before running it.

Is this really a poll???  The M4A2E4 is a slow turd with a pop gun that bounces off of everything it shoots at.... The only reason mine is still in my garage is that it was a rare tank when I got it 3 years ago.  I found out fast that the reason it was rare is because no one was stupid enough except me to buy it and I only got it because it was a Sherman...

Ripper? It's okay, it could use better penetration, 126 or whatever feels like it's 115. Armor wise it's good, though the turret roof is only 20mm which is [edited]

From the 5 tanks included in this monthly Op, the Lycan is the best choice (in my view of course) whilst the Ripper is may be the worst. So it's an easy poll -> Lycan. :medal:

Penetration on the Ripper's 75mm is 92. 92.

I haven't played either much but it really depends on how you plan to use them.  If you have good crews available then the Lycan is the way to go.  The Ripper is more forgiving for training virgin crews.

Of the two, the Lycan is definitely the better tank. Plus if they do Halloween mode like last year, that alone will be a blast.

The Ripper is just an OK medium.

The only way to really learn light tanks is to play them.

My recommendation would be get the Lycan, then work into a TT Chaffee to learn Light Tank play.

Which would be okay if that was the standard penetration. The Churchill III gets 110 standard and 180 APCR, and that gets preferential matchmaking, too. That American 75mm is outmoded.

The ripper is a better crew trainer, the lycan is as good as the TT tank with a small multiplier, but thing is fun to play

so if you want to train crews get the ripper but otherwise I'd go for the lycan

The Ripper is kinda garbage, but that's the one I'm getting. I already have the T95E2, I know I'd hate the balldog because of the gun, I hated the T71 when I had it so the Lycan is out, and I already have the locust.

So that leaves the Ripper; with any luck I'll have it tonight. At least the paintjob is neat
