Is the full color mini-maps an option or default?

Hey, 

I would like to have the old topographic mini maps back. I do not like the new ones at all. They only look nice but are of less practical use.

 

The main problem is that elevations are hard to see.

I know you made elevations visible. But they are so much harder to see than before. I can easily find the peaks of big hills though thanks to your use of bright and dark colors. But this is too little. 

With the old mini maps and their elevation lines you constantly had a feeling for little hills and little valleys and thus important tactical spots for you but also the enemy.

All these comparably strong colours on the new mini maps just make it so hard to differentiate between little ups and downs and to see about where they start and where they end.

The mini - maps are a definite and huge downgrade. In full screen view they are ok, but as a mini-map they are too cluttered. I was just in Himmelsdorf and the map is a black blob. Even on the best of them, it's hardier to see any features than the old ones. These are in the category of please revert immediately, don't wait until the next patch.

Bring back the old topographic minimaps.  They are more useful, easier to read,and provide more and better information than the full color maps.

 

Or at least make them an option.

^this so much. Some may love it but it should be an option. Looks kiddy and the perspective is bad.

Personally, I don't really have an issue with the new minimaps, but I do agree that you should be able to switch back to the old ones in the settings for players that preferred the old ones. Also I think it's good now that mediums and especially lights will be able to spot further on the weather maps, as this should increase the importance of scouting roles on these map variants.

 

Edit: having played a bit more, there are a few of the mini maps like redshire and murovanka that don't show the elevation very well at all. At the same time though some of the new mini maps I find are pretty good, like mountain pass. What I've found it that the new style is very good at showing extreme changes in elevation like high mountains and low valleys, but smaller hills like those on murovanka don't show up very well at all. Like I said previously it should just be an option in settings to choose which style of map you like best.

Why just don't make the mini maps the same as in the PC version. 

These new look ugly on tv screen.

I really enjoy the addition of Hero Crew customization! Now I can make Simon Linnet actually sound British and Jan Kos Polish with his dog Szarik. Would it be possible in a future update to allow players to purchase/select unowned unique portraits? I really want Karl Kraft's portrait for my tech tree Panther but I already own Kraft's Panther and really don't want to buy a store bundle just for a portrait.

First of all i can't access the story it continually times out. Second, my conqueror with 400 view range plus recon and situational awareness was just detected  (i also have the camo perk) on Westfield while climbing the southeastern hill by either a wz132 or a bat chat from the central village top of the hill. When I zoomed in on the houses I was 532 meters away. What mechanic has been changed to allow such massive sporting range? Needless to say I got whittled to nothing trying to figure out this sorcery...

Whomever came up with the idea for the dead tank icons showing all of the freaking time should be flogged..

One of the worst ideas to come about recently..

For the love of all things...undo whatever you did. I can't pen a Patton's side armor with a conqueror and many other very unlikely scenarios.

The new platoon system is a little clunky...

 

Not seeing the tank selected until you have another member join the platoon is annoying!

 

Like the hi res minimaps though..

There have been so many attempts from this forum to get the PC version mini map so we might ask WG staff to clarify the reason for not listen to us.

 

It must be about some patent rights or a to good thing for us to have here on consol?

The new minimaps are a very welcome change. It's much easier to see the exact lay of the land.

However, an option to use either one would be nice for the players that prefer the topographical map.

The platoon interface is filled with glitches, and the War Stories UI is extremely clunky.

War Stories only gave about two hours of gameplay, and did not have as much of an impact as i assume was intended.

I would much prefer the introduction of Swedish tanks and rebalancing artillery to PC standards.

No matter what I try and do I can not load any of the War Stories.  I too am timed out.  The new mini-maps will take some getting used to, but I think they are an improvement.  I am still trying out some of the changes that have been made - will report later on my success (thinking positive) or failures (still thinking positive) on the changes made to tanks (commonly referred to as improvements).

 

So, let's update.  It only took 22 attempts to finally get into the War Stories game and then there was the extra attempt at getting into the 3rd Chapter.  I am at 15 attempts and going trying to play the challenge mode for "Brothers in Arms".  Not impressed here.

 

The other updates to the garage, view range/radio updates, mini maps are all welcomed and well done.

Final update:

  Thank you for bringing new challenges to the game.  I was eventually able to seamlessly enter the War Stories mode and found it enjoyable and entertaining.  I especially liked that you could platoon with a friend and take on the challenge yourself.  The updated mini maps took a little getting used to, but in the end I think they are a big improvement over the old mini-maps.  Color and depth add a lot to the overall experience.  I liked the improvements to the garage, the ammo that is being displayed looks more like rifle ammo than a shell that would be shot out of a tank.  Overall I would give a B+ score for the improvements.  The A was missed due to the hassle with the server to access the War Stories storyline.  Job well done. 

 

Bottom line - when you can play the new War Stories mode it is fun and enjoyable.  It is just getting to it that sucks the pleasure out of the game.

New minimaps, and other art assets (like the impact and penetration holes) are nice little touches, even if said minimaps might be a shock to some, don't scrap them. Terrain is much easier to read, shallow water is much easier to see, and knowing which structures are destructible will be useful to those who actually look for and use that kind of information.

 

The garage UI is... lacking. Can't quite express the how I feel about it, but that comes close. Really doesn't seem like it was worth whatever effort was put into it.

The dramatic music in multiplayer that starts fading in when enemy are lit is a little annoying/distracting 

 

If you adjust it in options you loose it in the lobby where it is more needed
