I'd say it's a better T14.
The only two real differences are the fact it's British, and that it gets an APCR round of about 140mm penetration.

You can PM with with questions, if you wish. I don't bite.

Probably.

Tactics don't really play a part in a tier V match though.

I swear that the sides are spaced, but I haven't looked at the armour model in a while.

It's good. Quick and average gun. The only tanks I struggle against are OIs if the driver is competent.

Don't show your side in it. It's paper.

Yep. No side armor at all. But it's funny seeing how many people try and get behind you only to bounce every shot. I intentionally drive in reverse at reds sometimes.

It really needs a lot of apcr and a good crew to do well. It also needs a lot of gold ammo. Your success will also depend on the match up. Some tanks just outclass you. Did I mention you will need a large supply of premium ammo?

But other than that it can be a decent tank.

I thought apcr was it's premium round?

Yes, exactly. You need apcr, apcr and more apcr for the Excelsior to excel.

It's faster than you might think, and more maneuverable than the T14.
Has really good gun depression.

I play it like a big medium, and prefer it to both the T14 and Churchill III.

The Excelsior has really good speed, especially for a Heavy.  Keep your face towards the enemy, maybe a minimum of angling but you don't want to expose those sides (as has been mentioned several times above). With under a 4 second reload, just liberally apply Skill rounds to the enemy's face. Has preferred MM, so you will never see anything worse than Tier VI. It's great fun, I play mine often and have three marks on it.

Given the small number of British premiums, and the even smaller number of good ones, if you want a Brit for crew training this is the one to get.

I really like mine. It has become my crutch tank for whenever I’m on a bad run and need to stop the losing streak.
