Had 780 matches in it.

Can say that it's a bit sluggish and has weak firepower without premium, but good armour for its tier. Was able to turn matches around with it. That being said it's still more agile than the T14 but only by a little.

I find that its speed is not much better than other tanks. And not something I would rely on to much.

I prefer the T14 due to the much better side armor. The KV-220-2 is also much better and has a similar style gun.

Am I reading this right 38mm side armor and 108 rear?????????

yup, its a great tank with a VERY unorthodox armor profile

you dont have to worry about folks circling behind you, because your bum is just as strong as your front!

its also pretty mobile for a Heavy, its a very solid tank and lots of fun :)

Yep - it is a fun tank. APCR and done. Though it is slightly power creeped by now, the PMM keeps the good games it can have in existence. Mine eats T14s for lunch.

It's not bad for a tier V Heavy with PMM. The gun is lacking and will need a healthy amount of APCR.  Just don't angle your armor it doesn't provide it with anymore effective armor....face your enemy head on.

TBH I find myself playing and enjoying the Boilermaker, Knight, Centennial T95 and FV201 more than the Excelsior. It's not a bad tank by any means, but not my favorite British premium.

I suggest waiting on a 25% discount on tier V TT Premiums before getting it....That's when I decided to buy it.

I really like Excelsior, definitely worth the gold. Great gun deppression, good mobility for a heavy tank, PMM, decent frontal armor. Gun is not great but it works (premium rounds are needed quite often though).

Very useful tank,  sides are a bit soft but the front and rear are solid.

The gun's a bit soft on penn, some tier V Heavys and some tier VIs you're going to need Premium - contrary to what some owners believe though, you don't need Gold rounds to pen any tier IV or III.

The Chassis was originally based on the Cromwell, so she has pretty good mobility for a heavy, (though the weight does slow her down a touch!).

You're probably gonna shelve it after a while.  It's underwhelming.  Poor gun.  Zero side armor in fast-as-lightening low tier matches.  It's been power crept.  There's a reason you don't see them except on the rarest of occasions.  Logic says it's because people who bought them chose to play other tanks instead.

It's a good heavium or meavy tank. The armor is like two bricks attached to each other with paper.

It's one of my favorite T5 premiums.  Good mobility for a heavy just load up some APCR for the tougher targets.  I bought mine on a TT sale two years ago and I do not regret it.  I still take it out a few times a week.  No problems taking on tougher tanks like the T1 heavy or the Bogatyr, just protect your sides.

The tracks count as like 40mm armour and it has a side skirt over the top of that. The side isn't as weak as the paper stats would lead you to believe.

It's fairly mobile too just remember to take a healthy amount of APCR as the standard pen sucks.

Once I learned how to play it correctly I started to love it. Don't angle the tank and carry some premium ammo for the harder to pen targets. It is pretty fast and maneuverable for a heavy and the gun it pretty damn quick with decent pen for Tier V and lower but suffers when going against Tier VI. It is also an arty magnet and doesn't handle arty strikes very well so you might want to invest in a spall liner. I've been one shot several times by arty in mine.  Watch out for the upgraded Matildas and the Defiance as their rapid firing 2lb guns can theoretically pen you anywhere and if you are already low health that can be bad (ask me how I know).

I like it. I use it to train crews in. Its a beast when you drop a crew with 6 or 7 perks/skills in it.

I like mine and still use to train some crews.  It gets PMM, its fast for what it is,you do need to fire prem sometimes.

Its not like the new OP prem tanks we now see in game but its one of the good oldies that still is useful

I don't like it much, I used it a fair bit for a while to try to train raw and low skill crews. It did the job, but I found it frustrating a lot of the time and it only increased. The gun really isn't great, like a T14 or stock Sherman.

It isn't a bad tank, but there are a lot of better premiums out there now for the British, like the Boilermaker. However the Excelsior is cheap, so if you need a cheap Brit premium it is a viable option, if you like the sound of the playstyle.

Depends.

How much do you enjoy a tank that can never hit anything it tries to shoot at.

What Joco said, its a better T14.

WG Balance 101, If a tank has a high survival rate, nerf its gun.

It is one of only two tanks that I could two mark - took it as high as 90% without even trying (I was just trying to complete tank earn ops), and I have no business being anywhere near that mark. And I have two Radleys in it. It is an easy mode tank if you know how to play it. Up close and personal.

As Derpy correctly pointed out, it is not that great at even not so medium line distances especially if moving, as you wont hit anything due to the gun trolling you.

APCR. Two small repair kits. One small med kit. 4+ skill crew. Drive up. Ensure you have other tanks next to you. Keep moving but do not angle. Laugh your way to XP Profit.
