Update 4.2 brings a change in how the "! Detected" alert mechanic works. We have adjusted the trigger requirements and renamed this mechanic to "! Targeted". The main change is that we removed the "directional" requirement. Now the alert will trigger no matter what direction you are looking. This will help increase a players situational awareness to know when someone is targeting you. These changes will allow this alert mechanic to be a more useful tool for new and veteran players alike! 

  • Note: Artillery Strategic Mode (top down view) will not trigger !Targeted. 

Name change:

  • Detected has been renamed to Targeted.

Trigger requirements:

  • You must currently be spotted. (Visible to the enemy team)
  • An enemy must be looking at your tank. (Camera on you)
    • Note: Artillery Strategic Mode (top down view) will not trigger !Targeted. 

Once you meet both requirements, the "Targeted" alert will display on your screen. We have removed the delay and the directional requirements.

FAQ

"So assuming you are spotted.

It turns on immediately when an enemy is looking in your direction and turn off immediately when they look away?"

  • Yes with the exception of the artillery's overhead view.

"Is this for their camera or their gun?"

  • Camera

"And this is all irrelevant to where your are looking?"

  • Correct. Direction does not matter.

"Has the spotted duration been changed at all with this?"

  • No changes to the spotting system.

It would be great if added how detection works in combination with perk "Sixth sence" as this is useful to know for new players.

Why was the artillery prompt removed? I found it to be quite useful.

Wait hang on so how am I meant to know if iam "detected" in general, knowing if somones looking at me is good but without six sense I can not tell if iam spotted.

 

Can someone explain please because as I understand it iam only "detected" whilst iam visible to the enemy and six sense tells me people outside my view range can see me. am I right or am I missing something I think id rather know when iv been "detected" and can been seen by the enemy rather than wait till someone aims at me to tell me iam targeted.

I think "Targeted" is a lot more clear in terms of function than "Detected" so glad to see that cleared up a bit. That said, with artillery being as divisive as it is, maybe consider doing something for being targeted by arty. Hell, you don't even need to be target specifically, maybe have a small audio alert for when arty is looking at your sector. Just throwing it out there, I think some warning is better than a Conqueror Gun Carriage shell screaming in and taking half your health off even with a miss.

I believe each time you acquiesce to the bleating herd that complain this is broke & that is broke & make this game easier & simpler; I honestly feel you dissuade more good players away from the game. Stop listening to snowflakes that aren’t interested unless it’s deliveted to them on a plate. Some of us actually enjoy a challenge and satisfaction of learning to master new skills. And yes, I feel better now..,

<Looks at our tiny 10k player count at peak hours> Yeah, sorry snowflake, but we kind of need to start making steps to keep players and help them learn quickly. This is a free-to-play game that is entirely dependent on the amount of people playing it, and doesn't exactly have the luxury of a sequel or franchise to bail it out.

 

And I wouldn't even start tooting your own horn there, buddy :P

Please change this back the way it was. Using detected plus 6th sense was a great mechanic. It wasn't broke, why fix it (well, it did get glitched).

No Arty detected is the most terrible thing you've ever done in the history of this game, fatherland and black tanks included.

And I doubt this game mechanic is the reason why new players don't stay. I think the fact that WG has flooded low tiers with incredibly OP premium tanks has done far more damage to the long term health of the game.

The idea of the grid square artillery alert has been floated around for a while now and it's still a good idea.

One last thing. Can you add the information about the removal of the 3 second delay for targeted in the update notes? It's not on either the notes or in the summary that I can see.

That's a huge change, and basically eliminates 6th sense as a useful skill. I used to convert XP to do the free XP to crew XP conversion just for 6th sense. I also used to get 6x crew boosts to get 6th sense. It helps me because I no longer have to spend money to get that skill. But it's going to mean less money spent on skills.

This is horrible...

So 6th sense has basically been made near useless because "targeted" is now omni-directional AND instant.

 

6th sense is basically now an alert to let you know you've been spotted and that arty COULD be looking at you. 

 

WG, here is how you fix this mess (see red).   

  • Note: Artillery Strategic Mode (top down view) will not trigger !Targeted....but will trigger 6th Sense.

Haven't noticed this yet, but then again only played a few battles this morning before life interfered. If it works like the others here are saying, it isn't good. I'll let you know after playing more games.

Am most likely being dense, but I have a few questions - 1) how does 6th sense now fit into this?  2) does it go off every time a tank just looks at you as that could get really annoying 3) why is it Omni-directional; I would love eyes in the back of my head but it does not make sense to me; and 4) So if I am spotted and have now moved back around a house or rock and someone on the other team anywhere on the map looks directly at my tank no matter the distance or the obstacles I will be told I am targeted unless it is artillery?


 

 

Last thing is a comment, the proximity spotting is something I personally do not like. If I have taken my time to position in hiding behind a building or rock, the proximity spot causes the unaware tank to magically know where I am and stop and I am penalized simply due to an arbitrary distance. Again, this makes no sense and ruins the element of planning and surprise.
