Just won this tank in my bonus war chests.  Since I have exactly 0 experience with Japanese mediums I figured I'd ask if it's worth keeping or not.   Also, what should I expect from this tank?  Because I don't think I've every actually seen one before

It's OK.  The gun is quite punchy for tier 5.  Best to play it as a support tank where you can put the gun to work because you can't take much attention and you aren't all that mobile for a medium.  It's all about the gun.

If you want to be one of the 47 Ronin check out our recruitment post and then send a message to Prof935 (xbox) or dimka935 (ps4).

The Chi-Nu Kai is the best crew trainer currently available for the Japanese tech tree, with no sign of the Type 98 Keni-Otsu or Type 97 Ke-Ni coming to console. It does lack the 10 degrees of gun depression that is common throughout the Japanese medium line, with only 6.5 degrees to work with.

It has to be used as a mobile sniper. As you simply cannot trade against the small calibre/derp gun armed tanks it regularly sees (Matilda, 57mm armed T-34/KV-1, 105mm armed M4/Pz IV) due to having armour that is only really capable of blocking lower tier autocannons.

Keep the 7.5cm gun singing and you will make very good silver and crew xp gains.

Gun is pretty good and it has PMM, everything else about this tank is average or poor. Overall, it's ok but there are much better tier V premiums out there.

Consider your self lucky as you got it for free. It is a good tier V tank. The gun is the best thing on this tank as it does not struggle to pen enemy tanks. Dont expect much from the armour and I would advice to play it more like a glass canon then a brawler as you won't bounce many shots. If I were you and would ever consider grinding Japanese line, I would keep it

Yeah, I don't complain about freebies. If it absolutely sucked it would still be free silver and a garage slot. I'll eventually hit the Japanese lines so keeping it doesn't seem bad and I've got plenty of experience playing paper armor TD's so I might do ok in it.  Thanks for the advice

It is actually a pretty decent tank. Like others have said the gun is very good and can handle anything in it's Tier and even does very well at T VI without having to resort to premium rounds. The rest of the tank is just O.K.  Play it in a support role using your gun at a distance and you will not be disappointed.

tech tree version is noticeably more mobile.

armor is very weak.

gun is excellent.

unless its the II J, dont ever sell a premium.

I have this tank and I agree ,use it as a sniper, that is its most important attribute as it has inadequate armor to brawl. It is like most Japanese mediums,no armor ,good gun, keep your distance if possible and let the gun do the talking.I have this tank marked, and it did it fairly quickly because of the above.

I've played it quite a lot now, so i'll give my impressions.

It's a hard tank, even with Tier VI limit.

Problem is, it has no true assets, and a whole lot of flaws, this japanese medium feels like a soviet heavy without armor.

It aims slow, not very accurate either, doesn't have the best rate of shooting for this caliber, not a very long view range, not a very good camo, and not a very powerfull engine, and it has no armor.

Any opposing tank can auto lock you on, they surely pen you no matter how you are positioned.

You can snipe with it, or stay behind heavier tanks on city maps, but most of the time you're in the wrong team (the one who's only here as targets for the reds) and you absolutly can't carry a match.

I use Vent, Binos and advance aiming system (dont know the name in English)

And i have 16 premium shells.

Usually i'm around 600/700 dmg per games, wich is not good, the problem is that if you can't snipe, dealing damage is super risky and you get destroyed very often when you have to fight on close fights.

You would try to avoid close combat, but with all these motorcycle tanks that seems to run 90m/h on grass you cant always be sure to stay hidden.

It's a pleasant tank to play, but hard and frustrating because sometimes you just can't defend yourself.

The gun is great on this little beats but the armour and mobility is terrible for a medium, it can be a lot of fun in the right situations and it makes silver really well considering it's essentially a crew trainer

Thanks again everyone.  I've played a few games in it and saw it can do ok in the right situations. Still haven't tried mastering it because I'm not training Japanese crews at the moment due to having too many other lines I'm more concerned with

It’s like the TT Chi-Nu with weaker engine (acceleration and hills climbing) and with about 2 times worse gun depression. So they have nerfed the main strengths of the TT one.

it far and away tops the average damage of tier 5 mediums (if you ignore the aberration that is the pz V/IV)

Excellent gun and PMM balance out the poor speed, terrible hill climbing and total lack of armour.

Just play it to its strengths, abuse bushes add camo and shred tanks with that gun.

they need to give it some Gun Depression back.

the lack of it just kills the gameplay. i get the lower engine HP because  PMM. but it needs more Gun Depression.
