Just wanted to know if somebody knows if the current "clean" version of the AMX M4 49 is much less than the HMH version of this tank.  I've been told that the HMH version is better because of the spaced armor bonus because of the sandbags and stuff.

Does this make the basic version, now on sale in the store, an average tank?

14k for the M4 49 plus 13 57 seems a good offer, taking into account that the HMH version already was more than 14k

Excluding the sandbags and the permanent camouflage (which you can buy additionally for the plain version)... and over 3000 gold (for the HMH in the name) - I don't see other differences.
Don't rush me, I'm waiting for the last moment!

The non perma camo version is not muuuch better.

The sand bags (spaced armour) work best against HE, HEAT and HESH. So it will mostly protect you against RNG hits, because you can just aim somewhere else that's not covered in spaced armour.

Also you can just buy a camo.

If the are nearly same price i'd get the hmh, but if its really a 3k gold difference, no thank you.

Farbrique pattern cammo give you 6% camuflage addictionaly (HMH version)
the four sesons only +2% for HT class (for a naked version of tanks)
the difference is big for long range spot
you can check it in garage and store

Both tanks in the package are awesome fun. The little scout is deadly just run some 100 octane fuel. Beware of ammo restrictions cause you can run out of ammo, but it fires so fast it’s awesome.

The m4 is great at hull down fighting. Play to it’s strenghts and although I carry some premium, I rarely use it cause Standard ammo pens most things.

I got three ace tankers with this bundle the first night i played.

On paper, the M4-49 looks better than the M26E5. I see so few M4-49's out there, it is hard to get a good judge of them. What are your thoughts?

My only fight with one was in my T29, he won. Could not pen the Turret front nor the hull front. Could not get a shot at the lower plate.

I just bought the non HMH version a couple of days ago.  It is a good tank but I have not performed particularly well with it for some reason.  I will say you seem to see a lot of tier X battles with this tank maybe because of the weight?  I wish it had better DPM but for it's tier it is a strong tank.  Just make sure you protect your sides.

The M4 49 is a monster face on and flexible enough to fight on ridges.  It's probably the best tier 8 heavy.

It is weak against HE and the sides can be penned by tier 3s so punish if it tries to side scrape..  Hint, if you're a T29 facing M4 49 head on, shoot the cupola.  You'll have problems penning the hull even with APCR.  Don't bother shooting at the turret.

A T29 hull down is a pretty hard nut to crack.  I always aim for the commander's hatch.  He matches you on gun depression, but your front hull armor, pen and alpha numbers are way superior.  Stay hull down, and use your gun depression because the turret armor is pretty tough as well on the M4-49.  Try to find a small incline and to use your gun depression. This will give fewer opponents a clean shot and the severe shooting angle (for them) will tend to glance more shots off of your only weak spot- the commander's hatch.

All that assumes you have other tanks to worry about as well.  In a 1v1 situation vs a T29, Just use your superior front armor to bully him.  He'll have a hard time penning much on a 49 frontally.  Aim for his sides, back, lower front plate and machine gun port on the upper front plate. Facing him, it will be on the left.

You get ammo-racked all the time with it, even worse than the Conqueror, i think WG gave it a very bad RNG when it comes to ammo criticals, this is a flaw, and not a little one, having your rate of shooting constantly reduced make this tank unable to do the job it is intended to do as a true heavy.

Resulting in most people people playing it will be often trying to sniper, but the other big flaw it has is the low field of view (only 370m !), this problem wil make you blind to long range shooters as soon as isolated, as most opponents will have vanilla 400 to 410m of detection view, wich means that even with full scope Equipment you 're screwed.

Soooo...

Yeah, honestly it's not Worth the price right now, i bought it, and the only good thing about it is that it pays big money even when you lose.

I second Funktastic Ed's remark about the ammo-rack pathology of the HMH M4 Mle 49; out of all the tanks I own, this particular one seem to be particularly affected. As for the reduced vision range, you can compensate somewhat with "Situational Awareness and Reckon", combined with coated optics. Unfortunately, you will still be an easy prey if you remain isolated, being shot by enemies you cannot see.

As far as armor is concerned, do not get over confident. Yes, when in a Tier VIII game, you will bounce shots, providing they are not aimed at your cupola, or if not Premium ammunition. If bottom Tier, which happened a lot during the latest "final four" madness, you will be penned easily by anything IX or X.

And, as an additional perk, your traverse speeds, 25 chassis, and 28 turret, will make you a fine prize for the lights that will never falter to buzz around you.

At 15K Gold a pop, unless you are like me, a French Tank fanatic, I would say you can better spend your hard earned money on something else. It is not a bad tank though, but you always get that false peace of mind that your armor will protect you, when in fact, it does not so much.
