Got to say this is a great post OP. I'm trying to improve my light tank gameplay and the tips are very helpful.

Hopefully so. Your tips have already altered my gameplay,  due to my fondness for heavies i was being too aggressive in the lights and losing hp early then having to gamble in every encounter after that as i would be a 1 shot. I put your tips to use and managed to start having better games. I was risking to much for my initial shots before.

I'm going to be using the M41 90 alot. It seems to be a very good active scout. Does it do well as an anti scout though in your opinion? The HE shell looks good, but the tank is huge with zero armour.

Sometimes it does, but for me the hep shells we're always super inconsistent when brawling with another light because it always seemed to hot their tracks and not pen plus the tank is rather large so it's easy for them to hit you in return.

2nd game after implementing your advice (lagged out in the first):

That ace had been proving to be a bit of a pest for me. No real assist damage though, going to take a bit longer to get good at that bit.

Going to have to watch your vids as well i think, see some of the routes etc that you used to use. Thanks again :honoring:

Great write up.

You forgot the number one priority for the light tanks is taking out arty.:teethhappy:

Something like this?

Possibly a little too aggressive on the initial push but I got lucky and was able to exploit the gap in their front line. Then I stayed lucky and found arty!

The Type 62 is amazing if you're a fan of lights.

It's like they gave the 59-16 a bigger boomstick. And 30m more view range.

What's the preferred equipment loadout for an Amx 13 105? I just bought myself one.

That is a good write up.  I've switched from Scouts to fast mediums....but I still scout with my Lycan, and I scout with my fast mediums as well.  The play style is very similar.

Here it the #1 rule I've learned.   Even my 5 year old son knows this (you might hear him say it on over the mic in the background).

DON'T OUTRUN YOUR HELP

I often race forward to find a good spot....but that is different than a YOLO run.  All the spots in the world are useless if you have no tanks behind you to take shots.  More importantly, if you are spotted, all guns are on you and the reds are not worried about taking return shots.   Off to the garage you go....30 seconds into the game with 6 spots and no assists.

#2  - Do not be afraid to let a flank fall.  I've leaned that lesson many times over.  If I see that it is just me (in a scout or medium) and another tank by ourselves....don't be afraid to bail.  I usually get on the mic and tell the other tank to fall back and let the flank go.  It does no one any good to be nothing more than a small speed bump for the 4 or 5 reds that roll through you.  You have the speed, circle back and join the lemming herd.  It sucks...but the best thing you can do is push that herd.   I will also tell arty to bail from that side.  I've even rammed my own arty with my tank to get their attention that a flank has fallen and that they need to go...now!    That leads to next rule.

#3

Always, always, always look at the big map.  You are the point guard of the team....even if the team does not listen.   It is your job to know where every red is...or isn't...and where your help is...or isn't.

That tank is just too big to be effective...

Lol.

Really?

It's a phenomenal light that can cover multiple roles.

Super post!  Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge with the forum.

I'm always surprised at how many players don't understand how to play lights and mediums.  They use them like a heavy tank or TD.

Even more surprising is the number of players who seem to have no clue about spotting mechanics or cover/camo.

A light tank with a good operator can be the most effective tank on the battlefield.  You can't see them, you can't kill them...

I've personally always disliked it when I hear people say that lights can't carry a game, its difficult especially on some maps and depending on MM but its that difficulty which makes it so rewarding when you do carry and win the game

I think it is more difficult than some other classes but whe you pull it off in a light it’s glorious.
