The game will run much faster on an external SSD than the internal HD of the One X. Just be sure the drive is using at the very least USB 3.0 however. Otherwise, you will not get any noticeable performance boost.

I am still waiting for Microsoft to add an external SATA III port... It won't happen but I can dream darnit! :P

I've got it installed on the internal on my 1X and I'm 99% the first to load in by between 3-10+ seconds.

Might see a bigger difference on stuff like open world games like Fallout, Witcher etc than tanks.

:D... right, 'of course'. No one is claiming to see things they can't :teethhappy:

I load in and there are 2 or 3 other players not greyed out and the timer is at 1:32. Those other 2 players are the only ones with an xbox 1 x and were waiting for soooo long :teethhappy:. You say things like, 'way before' (clearly not the case; take it easy with those exaggerations, bud)  and 'of course you can't...unless...' with so much conviction :teethhappy:

When are xbox 1 x players loading into the match, when the timer is at 1:55? :teethhappy:

Has worked well for me, the One X 4k games take up a ton of space, so an external SSD is almost a must.

I am late to the forum today, but have been running on an external drive from almost the beginning.  For me, when I bought the Xbox 1, I got the one with the smaller drive to save money.  The SSB runs the game fine, I have a 1TB flash drive and have had no problems.  OOPS...it is not 1TB...  it's 128 gb.  I am using a Corsair Flash Drive 3.0...cost me only $20 U.S.

Its slightly faster loading on the One X with the SSD. I moved my SSD back to my regular XBOX One because the increase in speed is more substantial on that platform for WOT. PUBG has a game render issue that is mostly fixed by using a One X or having the game installed on an SSD. In WOT you will noticed that you game loads much faster and you are always the first to load into battle.

Just when you are looking at HDD's and SSD's look at the read/ write cycles. Because of how the consoles operate it will hit this limit faster. That is why most servers still have HDD's instead of SSD's. You could also look at HDD's in the 2.5" form factor with a 10k rpm. But, you are limited to a mac capacity of about 1.8Tb. Just some food for thought from a Navy Electronics Technician.

You don't use "an" with "One" because it sounds like "won"

It's "a One X"

Edit: Read/write cycles on SSDs for normal consumer applications are negligible. The Win OS is constantly reading and writing. Modern drives will most likely fail for other reasons like bad chip cooling.

Agreed with the above. However, I don't own a Xbox bone.  I play on a PS4 Pro. I noticed a difference right way with load times. I have't switched to a new SSHD due to the price of them. Ps4 owners can use external storage now for their games. I don't have much need for an external HDD. With the Ps4 having a 2.5 HDD, I can get a SSHD or a HSSHD. Load times will help some but from what I did research on, the weight of the prices on those don't help much.

I know load times in WoT are not bad. With my Pro, I load up quicker than the Ps4 owners who have the regular one. If you got the money to throw down on a hard drive, do the research first. If Xbox One has a removable HDD that you can swap out and load the OS on it after, do that. With games hitting over 50 gigs, you got a mini PC sitting there eating away on HDD space. 500 gigs don't cut it. You need a 1TB or bigger.

I did find for the PS4 HDD that the HSSHD was the way to go because it offers some good load times without the price of paying for a SSD. Just some food for thought.

The internal drive on the x is 50% faster than on the regular one, you really don't need an external ssd for the x, want proof? when you play a multiplayer match on wot see which players load the match the fastest, it's always you and someone else either with the one x or someone with an ssd.

I have the one x, and I'm always the first to load the match first.

same here.

Actually, yes, I, and everyone else who possesses competence, will use 'an' when writing or typing because the phonetics of speech differ from the linguistics of print.

You don't use 'an' with 'one' because you clearly do not possess this competence.

It's 'an Xbox 1 X' or 'an One X', Bibo.

..and it doesn't sound like 'won', it sounds 'juan'. :great:

cool,so you will see a slight improvement, might  help with in game pop up rendering as it loads the resources faster.

The difference in PUBG is huge, I render buildings and roof tops long before I hit the ground. My Squad Mates usually have to call off a rooftop landing because its not rendered for them and if you land on something not rendered in that game you die.

Im sure things in WOT are doing the same but its less noticeable.

Xbox One with SSD - much faster loading into game.  Night and day.  You are almost always the first to load.  Probably loads you in about the same as a Xbox 1 X.

Xbox One X with normal HD - comparable to Xbox One with SSD.  Didn't tell much of a difference between the Xbox One with SSD, but only played a bit this way.

Xbox One X with SSD - How I do it all the time.  You get maybe 1-5 second match loading in over regular Xbox one X with Tanks.  Not really a huge improvement over standard one X in load time.

But, I do notice with all platforms I get less lag and stutter when I use the SSD.  Perhaps the extra speed lets it re-read an error without causing a stutter or lag.  Game just seems to play more stable with the SSD.  Plus, those times I do have issues and get kicked during a match, I can usually load back in fast.  It's helped a few times for me to get back in the game before my tank dies.  Sometimes seconds count.  That's why I still use SSD with Xbox 1 X even though the boost is only a few seconds.

What size HDD do you use?
