so

I bought a Sexton 1 on sale some time ago.  I don’t play it much but every so often it’s fun to play a few matches.  I think the accuracy and quick reload spoiled me and gave me a false impression of Artillery in general.

I decided I wanted a TT Artillery and settled on the French AMX 13 F3.  I just unlocked it a while ago (thanks string theory!!)

Lord above!  This thing is like watching paint dry.  Reload is soooooo long and it takes forever to shrink that circle.  When I do finally get zoomed in I miss most of the time and when I do actually hit it isn’t for very much damage.  The shots are always obstructed too it seems as this thing fires flatter than I expected. (lol...not at all like the Sexy Sam)

Now I realize that the tank is stock and all, so I know it should get better, but I’ve also noticed the next gun reloads even slower with the same 7 second aim time.  Goddamed.....I don’t know if I can cope with that.  It’s terrible now!  I don’t expect it to load fast as a normal tank obviously but it’s so dammed unfulfilling waiting for this thing to load and aim just to miss over and over.

Any tips for an arty nub?  Will this thing get better or is it something you just have to adapt to?

I’ve purchased rammer, GLD and cam net for now.  Crew has almost 6 skills.

Best tip I can give you as a semi-non arty player: Sell all TT arty and just stick with the US Sexton I.

You can club away and also get your arty fix that way.

Lol.  Tempting but then I will feel guilty for wasting all that time grinding the blasted thing.

Before I rage sell it I got to at least try to make it work.

You think the Sexton I or any French artillery takes a long time to load? You should never, ever try the Soviet or German high tier ones then. They have a rate of fire of about two shots a minute if the crew is well trained and it’s fully equipped.

I hope to one day be wealthy enough to be considered eccentric rather than just plain nuts.

Arty is boring.

Then you get lucky and one shot tanks for 1300, or 1750 which happened to a M103 I one shot and killed.

 Screw my elders!!!!

Oh I hear you, but arty just isn’t for me. Went up the French line just to get that dumb Trebuchet achievement and hated it.

Went up the British line to play the Bert and hated it.

Started to go go up the American line and hated it.

Ive come to the conclusion. I dislike playing Arty (other than the Sexton I )

Played a few games in arty back in 2014. Haven't played since and I have no regrets. If arty floats your boat, have at it but I don't feel like wasting my time playing something that just bores the bejeesus out of me.

Oh man......I know not much would compare to the Sexton but I didn’t expect THIS much difference.

I think you may be right.

My most played tank is the sexy Sam.  Haven't played it in awhile but the thing is a beast! I moved on to mediums and lights but it had a special place in my heart. :D

I've ground almost all nation's tech-tree tanks up to tier7 (except Sweden and Chinese TD) ,and now I'm grinding tier8. So I've used all Artillery up to tier7.

I think Artillery is very unique vehicle and you need much more patience than any other tanks. The merit of using Artillery is that you can understand the strong and weak point of Artillery and the spot where you would be aimed at by Artillery.

With medium and heavy tanks you could cut your way by yourself, but with Artillery you could never ever cut your way alone. You always need team mates assist (spotting is most important).

If heavy tanks could not keep front line and red team would rush into the territory, Artillery could do nothing at all. Artillery need stable time to do good job.

If light tanks could not scout well, Artillery could not aim at any enemy tanks at all. Artillery fully depend on team mates efforts, so you could be nice to team mates if you use Artillery regularly. :)

No one is disputing any of That.

I love playing a light tank,  Spotting a red  and calling for fire just to watch a friendly arty nuke it from orbit.  No one complains when green arty is bringing the pain to the other team you’ll notice.

I’m just finding playing it so.......bland.

I guess I always prefer to Leroy Jenkins my way through each match.

Ignoring the actual boring arty part since that's just true and whatnot and talking about the AMX 13 F3. I never played it stock, so dunno how bad the stock gun is. The top gun is pretty good for arty standards IMO. The biggest problem with the tank is the flat gun arc which isn't something a lot of other arties share, but I didn't really have much trouble with that personally. Even with the arty changes on PC I felt the gun was meaty enough, the reload rarely felt that it took "too long" and it helped me do my arty missions easily as chasing 100 Seconds of stun alongside other objectives with the M44 Was annoying as at most I stunned someone for 7-8 Seconds, whereas this thing could stun up to almost 20 Seconds.

The AMX Is also pretty memeful because of the small size and good camo, and it also looks quite nice which is rare for any arty to look at all satisfying to look at. The next arty isn't much better, though I still enjoyed it as it's mobile, fast firing and thus I enjoyed it much more than the M12 Even if I think the M12 Packed a bigger punch on a pen. Had a lot of memes with that one, including a 3-way Bombardier which included two enemy ISs and my platoonmate in a WZ-131.

I am a PC Player who randomly posts on here sometimes.

It certainly can get from point A to B and reposition in a hurry.  I’m guessing that’s not common among arty.

This flat arch is going to take some getting used to.  I’m finding it hard to hit anything for Christ sake.  A 3 inch rock obstructs the shot.

The F3 is dammed sexy.  It is also a real artillery piece too which is very cool.  I believe I saw a variant a few months back while still deployed.  I may be wrong though.
