So I recently bought the M4A1 and i'm wondering how on Earth you're meant to use this thing effectively. I like support/snipey meds but this thing can't seem to do either. The gun is innaccurate, has less than impressive pen (200 base and 250 premium really??) and the handling is bad. It's not fast or maneuverable enough to outflank enemies, it has no armour, it's a fairly large target and the DPM is crap. All it really has going for it is gun depression and alpha damage, but the alpha is useless when it can't hit or penetrate anything.

Now I know how Joan of Arc felt

Mobile TD. Use the gun depression to snipe around cover/ridges. Use the mobility to relocate for side shots on distracted enemies. Brawling is a no no due to no armor and long reload.

The good thing about the reload is you can pop out of cover, fire, then hide again. By the time you’ve reloaded, you should no longer be detected (usually takes 10 or so sec to become undetected) if you were spotted when you popped out to fire.

The pen holds up well in tier VIII and IX matches, but will struggle in tier X. You just need to wait for your opportunity in tier X games.

Don't worry..... It is only one of the best tier 8 premium tanks ;-)

Vents,vstabs, I use binos for 3rd slot + coffee.....

P.s don't get hit, don't brawl....... treat like mobile TD.

Treat it more like a TD than a 'true' Medium.  Abuse ridge-lines with the gun depression.  I find I have no problems with the accuracy - mid-range sniping is a dream.  Long reload and paper armour means brawling is out.  I rather like it.

I like the tank, I just can't do well in it.

My best matches on it so far - always top tier - are those in which I stay away from the battle, picking shots at a safe, yet not far, distance.

The alpha is amzing - I oftenly do more dmg per shot with this 105 that that I do with the Conqueror's 120. Pen and accuraccy sucks big time.

Use ridges in your favor, shoot, and get the hell away from there. Stay with team mates - it gives the reds something else to shoot at. Don't lead. Don't brawl. Don't get caught alone.

One of my favorite tanks. Problem is how map rotation treats it. How's your crew? Don't tackle high tier french tanks before having snapshot & smooth ride as entry skills, it's a world of difference.

Equips: GLD, V-Stab and Vents (Mid to long range support. Currently using this, always had success. Around 10.5s reload.)

GLD, V-Stab and Binocs(Sniper, didn't test this yet.)

Highly suggest playing the Ravioli as a opportunistic mobile TD.. move in the shadows looking for vantage points and opportunities. 200mm is more than enough to pen anything on your way, not counting that the accuracy is fairly good, all you need to have is patience to use it. Take your time to aim, a deep breath and fire. This tank reminds me of the Lowe, actually.. fairly fragile platform with a long reload, railgun accuracy and respectable damage, superb sniper.

I use V stabs, optics, and gun rammer on mine. Find a ridge poke it a few times. Relocate, and repeat.

The pen is very mediocre, but knowledge of weak spots makes up for it. Also, pick your targets carefully.

I love it, and as everyone said, play it like a mobile TD. I play it the same as the Charioteer, without the camo or pen

Camo paint pays for this tank since it needs to stay hidden.

The silver bonus on the Ravioli they gave away lets you shoot a lot of premium so don't be shy.

You cant afford to bounce with the armor it has.

It is a good trainer but do what you can to not get shot at!

The Charioteer is a great comparison.

Snipe like a TD or second line support.  Always be in a position to move into hard cover after a shot, far enough away that opponents cannot brawl with you.   Never be alone with no friendlies between you and the nearest opponent, unless that opponent is far away.

It takes disciplined play. More than other tanks in its class. Large silhouette, minimal armour, mixed bag gun.

If you can make it work, the decent but not great mobility plus map knowledge and alpha can do really well.

But since it has barely any armour I play my skorp g instead.

I just don't see the point in using it when I have the Skorpian G which does everything it can do faster and more effectively, I dunno maybe it's just the massive over saturation of super heavy tanks that's effecting my play

Optics, Vert stab, rammer or vents. I prefer rammer. And treat the tank like a mobile t.d.  If the enemy can see you, you are too close to them. And the shell velocity is insane! You will only need to lead your targets a little to hit them square in the side.

It is the best silver maker. I have $100,000 plus games in it all the time. Had a $138,000 game in it last night. Run it with binos and any skills the give you more vision. Snipe by jumping out fire and hide again. Yeah your going to have games where you get caught out there and they tear you up pretty quick, but run it like a TD and it will reward you.  Untitled.jpg

Love my tank. All the above advice is solid. I play mine like this, hang back, when a chance to take out a red appears use the speed and flank quickly, with 100 octane it’s a solid flanking tank.

I also have the scorpion g. Both are glass cannons. Peek a boom and plenty of premium are your best chances.

I've been wanting to pick this tank up but the fact that it has no armor and it really isn't a true medium have kept me away - it kills me because I have wanted to get it because it's dirt-cheap (as cheap as the SuperPershing I think) but I feel like its poor top speed and average maneuverability is going to give me trouble.

One thing I would add to the comments. The shell velocity on the AP rounds is fantastic. You don’t have to lead targets by much at all.

It’s a great support tank. The alpha will punish those who you flank.
