105mm is the way to go. I got 2 pools medals in 20 min with it. Also, got me and kept me at 100% dmg standing.

This is the thing.  Only 4 voters have 3-marked the thing so far and 3/4 of them did it with the 105 (figuring you’re one of the 3/4).  That’s fairly strong evidence of the power of the derp, lol.

29 votes shouldn't be used as a statistic metric. There's likely quite a few players with MoE's that don't go onto the forums. How many alternate between running the 105mm and 76mm? The Derp works great when top tier, but is severely handicapped when medium/bottom tier, especially given the M4's armor and mobility. Relying on teammates to follow up a tracking shot is sketchy when a Tiger is bearing down on you.

Hey Guys,

I three marked mine with the 105, mostly. I prefer the 105 as I find the fun factor to be much higher with the derp.

I did switch back and forth between the 2 guns. I only tried to marks tanks in the last few thousand games as I had very poor internet for my first 25000(overall) lol

To be honest I think the M4 is very workable with both guns. I have had a few monster games at T7 with the 105. At bottom tier I prefer to have the 105. The pen on the 76 isn't exactly good to shoot top tier armor either, but wacking the rear of a tank usually gets them to turn on you in a hurry. You might plink them once  with the 76 but with the 105 a rear hit can do 300+ dmg as well as set fires and damage modules and you are gone behind cover before they can return fire.

An important part of 3 marking IMHO is dealing with each game as a challenge. Try not to die early. You have to look at the map, your teams deployment, etc, and use that info to have a good game. You can have 5 decent games and hardly move up a % but one bad game seems to drop you 1 or 2%.

As a final thought, use the gun that works more for your play style, but don't be afraid to try a few dozen games with each gun. :)

Cheers,

Tolavar

I have 2 marked my Sherman using the 76mm. I don't intentionally go out to mark my tanks, I just let it happen when it happens. As for the gun I am not really happy with the 76mm. It is just so blah. It's dispersion is terrible, the standard round velocity is not that great (making it hard to hit moving tanks), and the damage is not very good but it does have decent penetration.  I run the 105 on my Sherman III but to be honest I haven't been running my Shermans much lately or any Tier V tanks for that matter but i do remember it being pretty effective when Top and Mid Tiers and not so much when Bottom Tier.

Major problem with the 105 is your can’t plink at long range and that drastically effects your survival especially if your facing a tough team or are on a big map in a slow game where if your spotted the whole team will hammer down. Your total damage output is almost solely derived from being the first to get a shot in when the enemy lights up.

-Goodluck and avoid PZ.V/IV’s as they are better than you in every possible way imaginable.

I 3 marked the Jumbo with the same 105  derp so it's definitely a viable option. The best scoring M4 games I've seen when on the team have been with 105mm. I don't remember it much as I think it was the second Tier 5 I unlocked and just played through it before MOEs even existed.

I've 3 marked the Fury which has no option of guns and has the slightly better A2 76mm.

I reckon most competent players with a good crew could do it with either gun. I would go derp just because your ability to get assisted dmg at higher tiers shouldn't be discounted.

I only two marked mine...back when I wasn't trying for marks.  I liked the derp better.  As a matter of fact, I both Sherman's (tier V and tier VI) at the same time with almost identical crews.  I ended up selling the the tier VI and kept the tier V.  When top tier, the derp is freaking comical.   When bottom tier....switch to prammo.

3 MOE's: VK 30.01D (VI), T-34 (V), M-24 Chaffee (V)

2 MOE's: Indien-Panzer (VIII), T-20 (VII), Cromwell B (VI), Snakebite (VI), T-37 (VI), M4 Sherman w/Derp (V), VK 16.02 Leopard (V)

Highest score I have with the M4, I can't break into 95% though.... I play for fun and the Derp is fun.
