So throw a little free xp at it and get the derp.
It won’t change till you either a) Use a little free xp.
b) grind past it.
c) give up and try something else for a while.
The tank is as is. If you angle it properly, there is no reason why you should be penned.
Hull down and side scraping? There is an abundance of maps in rotation at the moment that will allow you to do that.

I I don’t have it but i do know what not to do. Think you are superior and try get to a position showing you sides to a enemy (especially in tier 10) the reason is that you can get your ammunition blown up because in my e-100 I once took a single shot as a type 4 was trying to get to a position and I just took a random shot and blew up it's ammo rack . Recently with my is-7 a type-4 was trying to move up on the hill on mines and I was able to hit both my shots with the first being random damaging it ammo rack and aiming where the first shot went I hit their again blowing up its ammo rack . In general don’t think that your indestructible with that being most realistic when top tier but you can still be beaten by tds easily.

I haven't played the type 4 in quite some time, but I would probably recommend the 14cm due to gun handling/reliability. You can use the 15cm if you wish, but the gun handling on it is even worse than the type 5's and that thing is very sloppy/difficult.
The type 4/5 are weird in that you can't sidescrape frontally. The type 4 can reverse sidescrape due to the design of the hull, however it loses depression over the rear engine deck while the type 5 doesn't suffer that issue. Do not try to attempt this in a type 5 because it has a different rear end, and doing so after the buffs would be silly anyways. Instead of sidescraping you must dart your front out at an angle. It's counter to what you initially want to do if you've played german heavies or know how to sidescrape, but trust me it works better. The goal is to put your front plates out at an angle while concealing/minimizing exposure to your drive wheel and corner weak spots. You hopefully bounce something while you put your shot in. Reverse back into cover to reload and repeat.
With both tanks solid cover is your friend and lover more so than when using a maus or e100. You have armor, but you have to treat it like you don't due to size/shape while using a combination of peek a boom to hold a position or wear something down.
The handling on the type 4's 15 is awful, however it still gets good HE and HEAT, so if you want to use it then go ahead. However the 14 might be more reliable/tolerable for nailing tier 7-9 targets if you don't mind lacking HEAT's pen. The type 5 has better performance for both, but the 14's pen still lacks and is thus terrible for fighting E100's when they can just melt through you with HEAT 10 outta 10.
As for the type 5's cons, it's an upgrade over the type 4 in every way except 2 as mentioned. The reverse side scraping is lost and the other being, if you hate premium spam you're gonna hate the type 5. With the type 4 it's not required, it simply helps. With the Type 5's frontal buffs it's almost mandatory, so you'll taste the rainbow within seconds of being engaged unless the target is cheap/terrible. You still have to employ the corner peekaboom tactic, but now you're more likely to bounce and endure more.
Avoid open areas when possible and don't stray far from support/cover, you're literally food if not careful.

Yep, pretty much. The O-Ni is also not too bad due to its frontal armor and improved mobility over the O-I, so it serves some purpose at times. O-Ho is interesting, but the armor doesn't mean a thing when you face tier 9/10 guns. It's also the most clunky awkward of the lot due to the mini-turrets and depression.
Past the O-I it's only for the dedicated or collectors, not for those that actually want a great tank. Too unreliable/flawed.

OI Exp, OI and O-Ni are all good, in a Tier 7 game i blocked 9600 damage in the O-Ni on Prokorovka, i was under the bridge (only way to avoid Arty) so it took a Scout to go long way round the middle and come up behind, most were blindfiring then i would durp the blindspots.

The O-Ho is actually pretty good I think. I have ~2000 WN8 in it vs a ~1300 overall WN8. I am an average player, but I find the O-Ho with derp as easy mode still. You can damage T9s and T10s, and murder T8 and below.
Was planning to keep going up the line, but it seems to get worse with the Type 4.

The survivability rating for the Type 5 is the biggest joke in the game... 97? More like 2. As in, it took 2 shots to kill me. One from a Deathstar and an E4. Took 3 minutes to see the enemies, to have 10 seconds of shooting once and death.
I think the tank is an enjoyable one, but it needs an amour buff of at least like 30-50mm on the frontal plates, because getting penetrated in my gun mantlet by a Pz.Kpfw.VII is [edited].
