Grind the T1 heavy first. Then you start with a better gun.

I thought that is the better gun..

On a more serious note, grind the upgrade on WS like JA said, 90mm is decent gun. It hink you need to research M6 top upgrade to have 90 mm available. Or simply load 100% skill ammo on 76 mm and go out there, at least ROF will keep you awake.

The 13. (Tiger) Kompanie, of Panzer Regiment Großdeutschland, reported on the performance of the 88 mm KwK 36 L/56, when their Tigers engaged the T-34: "First round hits were usually achieved at ranges between 800 to 1,000 meters. At these ranges, the Panzer Granate (they are referring to the PzGr. 39 APCBC ammunition) absolutely penetrated through the frontal armor, and usually still destroyed the engine at the rear of the T-34 tank. In 80 percent of the cases, shots from the same range hitting the side of the hull toward the rear of the tank resulted in the fuel tanks exploding. Even at ranges of 1,500 meters and longer, during favorable weather, it is possible to succeed in penetrating the T-34 with minimal expenditure of ammunition" (JENTZ, Thomas L.; Germany's TIGER Tanks - Tiger I and II: Combat Tactics; op. cit.).

If you don't have the free experience do yourself a favour and grind it out with WarStories or just play you dayly X2 XP first win. Or at least load a lot of premium ammo if you can afford the silver.

Otherwise the stock version of this tank is really bad and will ruin your game experience.

Two decent options if you don't want to use/don't have free exp.

1: War Stories. Throw on the ops and farm some of the easier War Stored missions to get the 90mm. It won't take that long to do really.

2: Full APCR. Honestly, 126 penetration at tier 7 is just bad. The APCR round isn't much better but it will at least be more usable.

Personally, I would go for option 1 myself.

I will say that if you made it to the T29, that means you made it past the atrocious M3Lee, which is probably the worst tank in the game.  Yes, the stock T29 is slow, underpowered and has weak turret armor.  If you grind through to the upgrades, you will appreciate them more.  The top level T29 is one of the best level 7s out there.

You can unlock the 90mm for it on both the M6 (the optional package) and the T20.

I preferred the stock T29 w/76mm to the fully upgraded black Prince (grinded them both at about the same time)

Still haven't grinded the M6 to this day.

I would say, don't take shortcuts with this one. Grind it in pain (this is not that long)  then appreciate the pleasure dealt by fully upgraded version.

Just load HE rounds. You wont do much damage but you will earn more xp and silver which gets you to the top gun in way less time.

Don't play stock tanks.  It's a general principle I follow that saves many headaches.

So you want this innocent man to go all the way back to the M3 Medium just to avoid one package??

Taking shortcuts with grinds in this game is what keeps many people from quitting.

A 3 inch HE projectile isn't going to do squat in a tier 7+ game.

As with the T32 and M48, the 90mm is the best gun provided that you spam gold. It's no 88, but it makes the 105 feel like a howitzer.

I used to grind all my tanks from stock. Thought of it as a badge of courage. Now looking back at all the misery, wasted time, and bad outcomes I think much differently. I was an idiot. Save up free XP to unlock guns. Keep and play the fully upgraded tank you have taking advantage of the elite status benefits. Train up the crew. Earn silver and free XP playing premiums so you can skip the stock, afford 3 pieces of equipment, and enjoy playing the tank instead of hating it.
You can wish in one hand and crap in the other. See which fills up first. :playing:
