I propose you to watch an average game played in the Nomad yesterday. It is on the new version of Thiepval, the 1944.

It is an average one, no special medal, and just 3k damage. What I think it does, is it showcases the tank in what it is good and weak at.

Obviously, we are in a favorable battle, being top Tier. Note as well that we have a very good team.

We deploy on both sides of the map, starting from Southern east spawn, while the enemy was positioned from the Northwest, but dispatched all its forces towards the center of the map. This will prove to be their demise, as they will be ultimately taken in a stranglehold.

I am starting the battle at 4'35, when the action starts.

I would be much happier with this tank if it had 3-7s less clip reload. Giving up all the mobility and one shot compared to the 50-100 seems like the clip reload should be shorter.

This is the general feeling, the clip reload time should be improved.

I got this tank in a bundle, and expected it to be the "bonus" tank, because I really wanted the other two tanks in the bundle. When I first played the Nomad, I was like the OP, and was glad I hadn't paid full price.

But now it's my favorite tank of the three. I use it as a support tank. Go with a group of heavies, and fire over their shoulders, unloading clips on the reds, then backing into cover. I just use the "reloading" message a lot.

As long as you're not caught isolated in it, it's a really good tank. But the reload is definitely appalling, and I'd LOVE a 35-40 second base reload, before crew skills.

Actually, what I'd like better is a reload setup like I saw in one of LemmingRush's videos, where he was playing an Italian tank with a 3-shot clip. When you fire a shot, that shot slowly starts to reload. So you can get a burst, but each round reloads separately. In the Nomad, you could have a 5-shot burst, like you do now, but in (doing the math) 9.4 seconds, you'd have one reloaded, then 9.4 for the next, and so on. So you'd only have to wait that 9.4 seconds for the next shot, but you'd have to wait the full 47 (or whatever) for all 5 to reload. Wish I could find the vid, but it was a cool reload setup.

For those still wondering, here is a video that may help you on what to think about the Somua SM;

It is obviously played by someone who has five years of experience in playing WoT, and used to be a CC; he does a lot of videos and as you would expect, is always a top contender.

Check it out!

Good to see this topic is still active. Thank you guys. Since august I’ve aced the tank multiple times and 3 marked it. Needless to say that it was a very painful process of ups and downs on the % marks of excellence but finally i did it a while back.

My opinion on the tank still stands that it could use a reload buff, specially when they released a comparably OP t32 a proto. I too have it and it is a difference like night and day those two tanks. With the proto it just feels like i can go forward and mow through anything that gets in my way. With the somua i have to go full try hard to even have a chance at a good game.

To me, its mind boggling how WG’s prem tanks are so inconsistent with balancing. On one hand we get blatantly OP tanks like T32 A and Absolution and on the other hand we get things like the Brick but oh well such is the world of tanks.

I agree with you, re tank balance. Some tanks have it all, others quite the opposite.

Bottom line is, which tank do I prefer to play? I am not always looking for the one that everyone has, because it has "that" reputation, one way, or another.

OP, not sure what you've got the Somua's reload down to with equip/supplies, but would be curious.

One reason I really like the 32-A despite only having a 3-shot magazine is it can be got down to a 25 second reload so basically 30 seconds for ~1000hp damage, or 2k/minute potential, which however can seem like eternity with a 1500hp 131 bearing down on you! While Frenchie seems deadly among friends, the American tank seems better off caught alone, but the upcoming Italian may take solo honors with that reload setup.

The reload is agonising, the mobility is just laughable compared to the AMX. Armor can be trollish against lower tiers. It could do with an extra shell or faster reload, some extra armor or more speed. Definitely could be more fun. But who am I to judge? Just another noob

dropping the reload down to 40 wouldn't be tier breaking.
