Probably not, i think it only works when you use a consumable manually. By the way, is your pic Kites Brother off Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal? looks familiar.

It only works in-match and food is not a consumable you can actively use, so no. The skill is so random that you are probably better off switching it to SS.

As others have said, it only works in battle on a consumable.  For instance, if you use a first aid kit or repair kit, there's a probability chance that it will be "conserved", such that the kit still remains available to use again.
Since it is a "unicorn" perk only available with the Karl Kraft crew, I would not recommend changing it out because you won't be able to get it back.

I have never trained Mentor so I did switch out Conservation for it at the very start to get the 10% training bonus for the life of the crew.  Not a big training difference but cycling that crew through the daily 2x on premium tanks along with the training bonus seems to be pretty decent.
When a man with a .45 meets a man with a rifle, you said, the man with a pistol's a dead man. Let's see if that's true. Go ahead, load up and shoot.

No, the skill only triggers (potentially) when you use a tool kit, med kit or extinguisher.

Though the auto fire extinguisher going off does also triggers the Conservation Skill.

A skill wasted so you can maybe save 20k? Sounds stupid to me, I'd change it out. Saying that I haven't changed out iron mace and I don't think it's really worth keeping either.

i think i will keep it since i already have 2 great crews and that skill could be neat to have.

sounds stupid to me to get rid of them, that 20k is going to add up over the long haul, esp if you run large kits...and who doesn't like ANYTHING that helps pen?

Are they top of line essential skills, no, but to trade them away for skills you are going to earn anyways is just impatient imo.

Question for the enlightened around here, does food/vents/bia buff these skills? (ie will you get a better rate of conservation, or even less loss of pen over range?)

I’ve had it work a couple of times now and it spared me a large repair kit.  I’m not sure that’s worth it in itself in the long run.

I run food/fuel and never noticed it giving me anything. I don’t think it’s intended for that type of consumable.

It is unique though, so I may pull ole Karl back from the barracks and build him up a bit.  When it does work it gives you a little notification as well, for those who are wondering.

But how often do you use a big kit? I'd say I do it about ever 3 games, I use far more small ones I feel. Then there is how often it works, no idea here so going to guess 10%, but let's call it 20%. So ever 15 games you might save 20K or be unlucky and save 3k. Whereas most of the other import skills will earn you more than 20K in 15 games.

As to the Iron Mace, because they won't give any indication of how well it works I feel it's not worth having.

Saying that, this is my opinion and how I look at it and you look at how different people set up tanks and even the unicorns don't totally agree with how it should be done. You need to go with what you feel is best.

there’s no need to ditch it...training useful skills on crews (I mean all the usuals) was one of the fun aspects of the game for me

It would be nice if WG increased the % chance of triggering (Hint, hint WG), but it is a unique skill so you can never get it back again if you swap it out.

I can't remember if WG made it a zero skill, but they did with some of the others - So having it might no even affect your crew training.
