Thank you very much. From one veteran to all who have served and who are currently serving, thank you for your service.  As a Corpsman I was afforded the opportunity to serve alongside all branches (most Squids and Marines) and while we give each other as great deal of flack, we all serve under the same flag and would do anything for each other.  Honored to serve the Stars and Stripes!  To those still on the front lines, be safe and come home soon!!

My wife's birthday and my oldest daughter was born on the same day. Wife thought I was putting a candle in the window for her for years. Been the same since my nan told me about her brother who died on Christmas day. I never meet a lot of my family. My old pop use too talk Italian and my nans mom said she found him in a telephone box. I never found out the truth untill later.

This the only song I know that has something to do with Veterans and it is so true and so damn good and sad together. Because of that, I want to share it with you all:

I want people to understand because I want to understand as well.

Yes, I am the one guy with a different opinion.

Don't believe my battle count. It is missing 12355 battles on PC(and not a single one will ever be added to that number again) and 852 battles on mobile.

Thank you Veterans!

My step-father and uncles (Vietnam), grandfathers and great aunt (WWII, Korea), great-grandfathers (WWI), and other ancestors who fought for their people and countries--Thank You!

Unfortunately, many are no longer with us--gone home in the last few years and often too soon because of the effects of their service.  Your service will continue to be remembered and honored with gratitude for that which you have provided.

To those currently serving:  Thank You for continuing to carry on, to serve, to protect, and to provide for the rest of us.  May the wind always be at your back, may the sun shine warmly on your face, and may you be preserved in times of tribulation.

I'm really amazed with the number of former military being homeless...300.000 homeless ex soldiers sounds horrible. I hope this isn't true number.

The 13. (Tiger) Kompanie, of Panzer Regiment Großdeutschland, reported on the performance of the 88 mm KwK 36 L/56, when their Tigers engaged the T-34: "First round hits were usually achieved at ranges between 800 to 1,000 meters. At these ranges, the Panzer Granate (they are referring to the PzGr. 39 APCBC ammunition) absolutely penetrated through the frontal armor, and usually still destroyed the engine at the rear of the T-34 tank. In 80 percent of the cases, shots from the same range hitting the side of the hull toward the rear of the tank resulted in the fuel tanks exploding. Even at ranges of 1,500 meters and longer, during favorable weather, it is possible to succeed in penetrating the T-34 with minimal expenditure of ammunition" (JENTZ, Thomas L.; Germany's TIGER Tanks - Tiger I and II: Combat Tactics; op. cit.).

Lest We Forget.

100 year anniversary of Armistice.

Go to your local cenotaph and observe a minute of silence for all those who have served, and serve today.

On the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour. We shall remember.

Jope, I can't vouch for the numbers, but they are certainly high. Your concern is justified. Just in my town, which has both Army and Air Force bases (so consequently a large support network for veterans) there are shocking numbers of homeless. I know this because some of my colleagues from the base took part in a huge homeless vet support event this year, and they came back overwhelmed by the turnout. They conducted interviews and tried to set up medical care or job placement, and there were a lot of winter boots and sleeping bags and stuff given out. But the main takeaway for the volunteers was shock and sorrow at the scale. I can't explain why it is this way, because there is a lot of money and charitable effort directed at the vet community, but there are really a large number who aren't reached somehow. Sorry for the long post, but I thought it was worth sharing. Sometimes even taking a few extra minutes in a chance encounter with an older or possibly homeless vet can give them a feeling of value, or being noticed in a world that's usually driving past them. It's pretty heartbreaking. Sorry to be a downer.

Not at all, I think this is exactly what needs to be shared. I'm not from US, but my father was Major during war time and served from the first to the last day of war. After the war he was retired, but I could always feel his dissapointment with how society treated war veterans. He passed away, and I'm very proud of him, some of his fellow officers were even faced with trials and prison time, all because they were the first to respond, no questions asked.

Thanks for sharing part of your father's story. Certainly not a US exclusive day of rememberance. Thanks for your father's service.
