The new German tier 8 premium, the 8,8 cm PaK Jagdtiger (Jagdtiger 88) is an interesting vehicle. It combines the hull of a tier 8 heavy with the gun from the Tiger to create a very resilient and dangerous tank to face.

Pros:

  • Strong armour
  • Accurate gun
  • High damage per minute
  • Good credit making potential
  • Preferential matchmaking, does not meet tier 10 tanks

Cons:

  • Sluggish manoeuvrability compared to the regular Jagdtiger (Jagdtiger 128)
  • Low alpha damage
  • Low penetration for a tier 8 tank destroyer

Since the main purpose of a tier 8 premium is its credit making potential, I expect that the deciding factor for many regarding which, if any, tier 8 premium they purchase will be how much money they can make rather than how good the tank is in gameplay. And the Jagdtiger 88 is an excellent money-maker.

Exceptional Game Profits
Average Game Profits
Terrible Fail game Profits

Should keep in mind that I'm running with a premium account at the moment, so your profits without a premium account will be about 60% of what I'm getting.

Repair/Restock Costs

Tank Comparisons

Overall, the Jagdtiger 88 is somewhat weaker than the other tier 8 tank destroyers, it certainly isn't weak, but fits well as a tier 8 premium—better than a stock tank of the same tier and type, not as good as an elite tank of the same tier and type. Buying a Jagdtiger 88 will definitely not suddenly allow you to dominate in tier 8 games, but you're not going to be nothing but food for any tank that comes across you.

It looks great, and from the PC side, most seem to love it. I feel bad for noobs buying it though, thinking it's going to be easy...

I just had a match with two on the OPFOR, and they both finished 13th and 14th with 0 damage, and 2 digit XP. Both had under 300 battles.

Yeah, the Jagdtiger 88 is not really noob-friendly. If you don't know where to shoot with that 88L/71, you are going to bounce off most things you shoot at. There were several Jagdtiger 88's I went up against this morning, and while I had a bunch of great games, most of them... not so much. Of course, it didn't help that I was on the other team, so they lost all of those games.

JT 88 is outstanding, 3rd game with it was a draw on malinovka. Top again with over 4600 dmg and 178k silver profit after ammo and consumable costs. I took a fresh T32 out easily from his side, first shot tracked him and just kept banging a round in every 4.5 seconds until 1550 HP was gone.

The gun is just so accurate you can just aim for weak spots all day. It may be slow but get it in a good position with bino's and light them up.

This is most definitely my goto silver earner

Nice review Matthew.

Too bad the thing is tied to an expensive package, I will have to wait until it's release as an individual tank (assuming it does, as I still haven't seen the T-25 come up as an individual tank).

It's 10k Gold on the PC. Saving a solid 900 Gold? :p

If you wait for it to be added to the tech tree it will cost 10k gold. The deal going on atm is so much better as:

1. You get a 100% crew (I don't know if you get 100% crews if you buy premium tanks straight from tech tree)

2. You get 7 days of premium

3. You get 50 premium rounds

4. A garage slot is included, you don't get an extra garage slot when you buy a premium from the tech tree

With all that above 10,900 gold is a much better deal than waiting for it to go on the tech tree at 10k gold

I was on the fence about getting this td but the money making potential is insane and when I get the 183 I will need something to feed the beast. so I might just have to get it.

Will the JP2 with the 128 pen it's upper hull/area? Or do you still have to hit lower glacis/mg port? and 128 with premium ammo?

Thanks.

You'll need premium ammunition to consistently penetrate the casement, but your standard rounds can penetrate the upper glacis without much trouble.

would you say it is worth the gold?

im not getting the super Pershing for 2 reasons.

1) it is the nerfed version

2) i like td's over med's

dose this perform like most other German tds? and cred wise would it be more cost efective to get 180 day's premim for allmost the same price.

my stats are here http://worldoftanksx...610-cookepiper/  there not a very accurate reflection of my stats because i mess around with light tanks and [edited]just rushing for a little extra cred im allays short. but i feel im experienced enough to drive any tier tank well specially german tds which i spend attest 50% of my time in and ive been playing since the beginning of beta.

its just very expensive and i want to know it is worth it before i through gold at it.

i better add that this is the best written review i have ever seen i just want a second opinion before buying.

Super Pershing is Pre-Nerf. Or so I've been informed.

On the subject of performance in relation to it's peers. It performs much different in relation to both the JagdPanther I/II. These are both mobile snipers with sufficient armor. While the JT can snipe it is an assault gun with generous armor. Helping to push the line. It's slow and relatively immobile making it less than ideal for shoot and scoot. I love this tank but you have to be aware of it's limits. That lower glacis is, as always are vulnerable spot. Always cover it when you can. IMHO this was worth the buy. As long as you do 2k plus in it(which isn't hard) you will come out with 85-130k silver. Definitely a money maker. It's worth buying this over premium. Why you ask? You don't have to keep rebuying this tank. The 88 has good ROF and Pen if you know where to aim. I recommend it.

I wish I had realized that you asked this question here and I wouldn't have had to go to the trouble of typing on the xbox.

Basic summation of what I answered for everyone, it plays most similarly to the British AT series, if you play very frequently premium time will be more effective than a tier 8 premium, but if you play less frequently you can make money much faster with the premium tank (made 2 million credits today between the Jagdtiger 88 and the other things I've been playing), if you know what you're doing, this tank will perform very well for you, if the price concerns you, the T26E4 is a better buy just because its cheaper, and has much the same effect, but gameplay-wise the Jagdtiger 88 is better in my opinion.

And I'm glad you liked the review.

glad to see new content already but i was hoping that they would have thought of different premiums then the pc version. how about a tier 8 german medium tank (not with the l70) or a british t8 heavy. Just don't wont this to be an exact copy of the pc version

Just bought this, got 4 medals including mastery, 116K silver(with premium) with 4 kills and 2926 damage. Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it. What equipment do you guys run with this? I have the vents on it now, I'm assuming rammer and gld as well?

On a side note, some guy was talking into his mic wondering why I didn't have a mic when I could afford to buy a premium tank..

Thanks again
