I wanted to buy another Chinese trainer, and Type 59 was on 30% discount in TT, so decided to go with it.

Just after I bought it, pressed X by accident and ended up in battle without equipment, premium ammo and with stock crew with 0 perks. It was tier IX match on El Alamein map. So, I said 'Heck with it!', and rolled out, hoping I could at least stay back and do some support here and there. I was in for a rude awakening.

It's not that I haven't had any chance to shoot, I've fired over 15 rounds, many of them hitting, BUT! The accuracy is horrible, view range is bad, aim time? NOW WHAT ON EARTH IS THAT? Even if you fully aim and fire, round hits and bounces. PEN is non-existing. I would switch to premium, but alas, no prammo in rack. :sceptic:

So, aside from some assisted dmg, I had 0 dmg in total.

I would like to have that upgraded Type 59, but I'm not a fan of McDragon. Imho, one of the fugliest tanks in game.

So what about Type 59? Was I wrong to buy one? Please tell me there is hope.

The 13. (Tiger) Kompanie, of Panzer Regiment Großdeutschland, reported on the performance of the 88 mm KwK 36 L/56, when their Tigers engaged the T-34: "First round hits were usually achieved at ranges between 800 to 1,000 meters. At these ranges, the Panzer Granate (they are referring to the PzGr. 39 APCBC ammunition) absolutely penetrated through the frontal armor, and usually still destroyed the engine at the rear of the T-34 tank. In 80 percent of the cases, shots from the same range hitting the side of the hull toward the rear of the tank resulted in the fuel tanks exploding. Even at ranges of 1,500 meters and longer, during favorable weather, it is possible to succeed in penetrating the T-34 with minimal expenditure of ammunition" (JENTZ, Thomas L.; Germany's TIGER Tanks - Tiger I and II: Combat Tactics; op. cit.).

This tank is trash on console..

They need to buff it to the PC level and then it will be playable

With that aim time it's useless.

View range is bad? 380m is very good view range.

Mutz and STA-2 also have 380m.

But yeah overall Type 59 is unplayable with that aim time.

Did I mentioned I had no equipment on and crew was the one which came with the tank? Lol, I definitely need to put some equipment on. 380 m isn't bad, but I would have Optics to boost view range a bit. Pen is bad and aim time / accuracy is horrible.

McDragon > Type 59.  I had my fun with the Type 59, it can perform well, but accuracy is trashy. Ever since the KD, I’ve hardly played the OG Type 59...

The KD is certainly an uglier tank, but I take solace in knowing players killed by it are likely more angry being killed by such an ugly tank then players who play said ugly tank.

I think they stealth nerfed the copulas as well. I used to be able to face hug taller tanks and have their shots bounce off the turret, but not anymore. Also, the ammo rack is WAY more fragile now. I have been detonated by and detonated a LOT more ammo racks since the last two updates.
“Greatness is a transitory experience. It is never consistent. It depends in part upon the myth-making imagination of humankind. The person who experiences greatness must have a feeling for the myth he is in. He must reflect what is projected upon him. And he must have a strong sense of the sardonic. This is what uncouples him from belief in his own pretensions. The sardonic is all that permits him to move within himself. Without this quality, even occasional greatness will destroy a man.”

And after initial dissapointment with Hype 59 I've played 3 more games today and managed to get a Mastery game. My opinion is still unchanged, tank desperately needs a buff. Aim time for start and accuracy and a tad more mobility wouldn't hurt.

It's one of my least played premiums.

It's one of those tanks that makes me pull my hair out when I play it. Funnily enough though I don't do too badly in it. It just feels hard work to play.

To sum it up, a frustrating and unenjoyable tank to play.

I remember enjoying this tank, at some point but it rarely comes out now due to the turret being penned by potatoes....  I only play it when I'm in on my own, so I can vent out loud..

Check out my thread further down the page, there's some interesting replies........

In my opinion the tank is fantastic. I play it like a heavy brawling tank and am able to just run through enemies when top tier. Low tier I play it like the wz5a and sit at midrange hull down and just bounce everything.  I would posit that it is one of my more enjoyable tanks to play.

Looks like you don't know Soviet tanks, they all have bad aiming time and accuracy.

For the penetration, it's a Premium, so you can spam premium shells.

Type 59 probably my least favorite of all my premiums.  I know some people that really like it but I’m not one of them.  I was going to trade it in during the exchange program but it wasn’t really worth that much gold.

I used to like it, but the gun handling and turret armor feels like it got worse. Fully kitted, it's okay.

Sorry to dig up a months old thread...but has anyone traded in their 59 for the KD? It costs 6k gold to get the KD if I use the 59 on trade in.
