Do not waste your time on this tank or this line. The real load is so slow and the penetration is so bad and the armor is useless and the speed is horrible. This is a complete waste of your time and not worth the time and effort. Stop at the o ni  and you’ll be happy

I thought O-ho-ho is where it's at.

The 13. (Tiger) Kompanie, of Panzer Regiment Großdeutschland, reported on the performance of the 88 mm KwK 36 L/56, when their Tigers engaged the T-34: "First round hits were usually achieved at ranges between 800 to 1,000 meters. At these ranges, the Panzer Granate (they are referring to the PzGr. 39 APCBC ammunition) absolutely penetrated through the frontal armor, and usually still destroyed the engine at the rear of the T-34 tank. In 80 percent of the cases, shots from the same range hitting the side of the hull toward the rear of the tank resulted in the fuel tanks exploding. Even at ranges of 1,500 meters and longer, during favorable weather, it is possible to succeed in penetrating the T-34 with minimal expenditure of ammunition" (JENTZ, Thomas L.; Germany's TIGER Tanks - Tiger I and II: Combat Tactics; op. cit.).

3 MoE tanks: T-34, Pz IVH, Tiger I, Pz.Kpfw. T 25, M7, T-50

had a long discussion with a random red after I ripped through his type5 weakspots in upper corners with a tier 8 hvy. he wasn't impressed.

its weakspots are high up on a massive tank, can't go hull down.

Unfortunately the tank is riddled with weak spots. I went back to the o-ho And it’s a lot more fun due to the fact that the reload is so much faster and the armor is not too bad. My guess is that wargaming wants these Japanese heavies out of the game but they don’t want to remove the tanks. So they have Nerf them into uselessness. It just is what it is I’m just telling people to not waste their time after the O-ho or o-ni

Very sad to hear, because I was really excited to head up the line. I'm having a lot of fun playing the O-Ho so I'm perfectly fine at T8 for the moment until WG does something with the T9 and T10.

I finally got through the O-HO tank....what a rubbish tank that was! Was the worst tank in the line for me.

So I researched and  bought the Type 4 heavy and I’m having a riot in it. Really enjoying it - no more massive boob weakspots and resulting no gun depression over the front. Currently just I locked the first package (same small gun) and I’m managing to do better than the O-HO before it. Probably going to use the 14cm gun and smash my way through to the type 5...at this point, the Type 4 is a keeper :)

you want a thick turret and good gun depression in a heavy, not un-angled flat armor, glacial speed, and the ability to be photographed from space.

The gold rounds only work vs flat unspaced armor, use HE

I am glad i read the forums on these.  Someone said to skip them and use war stories before they nerfed it.  Glad I did.  Would have hated playing these in actual combat.  I mean i see them do well maybe one time out of 10 because they are top tier and in Himmelsdorf or something like that they can hide with.  Other then that i usually see them get torn apart or they sit in the back of the map doing not much of anything because they are so slow and you get on an open map.  Talk about a let down from the videos i saw about the pc versions.

Yea both the 14 cm and 15 cm guns suck as they have god awfull pen.

My thoughts:

Buff pen on 14 cm from 249/282/70 to something like 258/300/70

And on the 15 cm revert the nerf of the HEAT shells.

Haha, I really appreciate it when people go to this length to add humor to the point they're trying to make. Thanks for this.

With all of the spaced armor, the HE is an effectively useless round. 20 secs for maybe 400hps is laughable at best.

The shell should be overmatching so much side armor, yet you can still manage the fan favorite, “tracks no damage”.

The weak spots are impossible to hide. If you want a big boom without these headaches look to a 705A or Polish heavy.

If the green team "helps" me much more, I'll need friendly fire turned back on to defend myself.

What's the point of playing this when the object 705A exsists. Better armor. Better gun. and it's faster lol

These tanks are very underwhelming. They should definitely be buffed to have any sort of resemblance of competitiveness. Tier IX is the better one of these two largely because it can face Tier VII opposition.

That being said, they are some blueprint tanks for a reason, anyway. I'm not interested in seeing them OP or even very competitive. After all, they are huge tanks with flat armour, zero mobility and concealment, topped with a gun that is less accurate than some artillery with direct fire. The front of the tank is very thick but usually works only on a long distance or against muppets who either don't know where to shoot or don't use premium ammo. I think it should get some attention on some of its deficiencies. For me the best option would feel to be improving the gun. Reduce aiming time, improve HEAT penetration and improve the reload time by 2-3 seconds or so on the 15cm gun. Thus they would still remain kind of novelty tanks with a lot of things going against them, but they would be nicer to play with.

Currently Type 5 is the worst Tier X heavy in: avg damage, kills per game, hit percent,  WN8, efficiency rating, spotting. Second worst in damage ratio (+1% from bottom) and 3rd worst in K/D (+0.03 from bottom). The closes comparison would be E100, which by no means is a great tank either, but its WN8 is about 23% higher than the Type 5. Distance to the leading tank in WN8 is 70%. Another curiosity is that only 3 players have managed super unicum level with the Type 5. All these stats are from the PS4 server. While a lot of things effect WN8 stats, like mobility, the gun is still arguably the largest contributor, and with this in mind improving the gun would be a great thing.
