I finished the Japanese line some time ago completing the Type 61 to get the STB-1 and I have to say it’s useless. There’s a reason this tank is rare.

Easily penetrated hull down, unreliable gun handling it’s no longer a ridge line sniper. Everyone shoots premium rounds now due to the heavy frontal armor on certain tanks and the STB is now obsolete.

Sure it CAN bounce, if you wiggle, hull down, hiding everything except the turret, they miss the weak spots in the centre of the turret and they’re not using premium rounds...but let’s face it, how often is that?

I'm mothballing the Beautiful STB-1 next to the Type 5 Heavy in what is the anticlimax of a really hard grind through 8 god awful tanks.

Anyone considering the Japanese line - either the heavy or medium - just don’t bother. Buy a STA-2 and console yourself with the fact that you’ve got yourself the best Japanese tank in the game.

Really disappointed.

Last time I checked the STB-1 still worked, can be unpredictable but it can still abuse other tanks if used right

I have heard all these threads talking about how bad the gun handling is on the STB-1. I have had no problem with this gun, it's been better than any Russian 122mm I've used. Maybe it's my set up, I don't know, but its been great since the my first game in it. Yesterday I dished out over 5100 in damage and only got a 2nd class badge, somebody's doing great things in this tank. Am I the only one who likes the STB-1?

Gun handling is bad, mobility is average. There's no reason to play the STB-1 when you can play the M48 Patton these days.

Thw STB-1 could use a gun handling buff imo.

I like my STB, but it’s not the first tier 10 medium I think to take out. The gun can troll hard sometimes. I would much rather jump in the Patton. The type 5 is just nails on the chalkboard. The lines could use a little something to make them more gratifying to play. Still, not the worst.

I wanted to do 10 games in it, I managed 9 with av dam of 1,112, 7 losses, 1 win.

The thing that that really disappointed me was hull down I got penetrated through the turret by standard ammo (checked the replay) which totally negates the whole edge the STB brings to the table.

No, it’s not broken - it’s simply hard work.

i admit I’ve only done 40 games. Maybe I need to do more. It just seems really hard work compared to other hull down tanks I play (sharpshooter for example)

you were probably being too aggressive...it’s a very high skill ceiling tank (and no, I’m not saying you don’t have skill) so you have to be at your best when playing it

Erm... There's nothing wrong with the Japanese heavy line... I use them a lot and find them exceptionally good fun and derp-worthy.

Can't speak for the other line tbh, but it probably just requires you to reassess g

Your playstyle somewhat

Too aggressive. That’s a very valid point. I’m going to try again, with less aggression. Less dependency on the turret. Still disappointing though...

The heavy line was great till 10 too, the 400 splash damage every 20 seconds let’s it down.

that’s what I was saying above...it’s not my first choice medium in a sea of tier 10 mediums (I own every single one)

i just got the K91 the other day. Once I finish off the obj 704, Chinese tier 9 TD, and Foch 155 this week, I’m going to spend some time in that one for awhile

It's just too unreliable. It's a toss up if any individual shot hits where as you can just use a T62 or m48 and basically guarantee a hit and pen. The gun kills it and the IS-7 ground resistance murders it.

If you need a medium with bad gun handleing the bat chat gets 5 tries and only needs 12 seconds to do it.

The Japanese heavys are fun but not even slightly good. The tier 9 and especially the tier ten and seven are some of the worst tanks in their class and tier.

The E-100 does the type 5s job better than the type 5 and even the E-100 isn't much of a solid choice anymore.

MOEs so I can pretend like they matter

The Centurion Action X is better than the STB-1 in almost every way. Better turret, better power-to-weight, much better gun handing, and better accuracy. Sure the rate of fire is slightly lower, but it doesn't matter when you miss half your shots.

Earned my Pool's in the STB-1. The tank works... when it wants to.

Got my STB-1, but haven't even put a crew in it yet so can't comment, but I love my Type 5. It bounces so much especially when they use HEAT or standard shells, even using HE it does decent damage and that's every shot. Understand why some don't like it, but not me.

The heavy Japanese driver all make the same mistake: they go out uncovered as if they had a Maus .... but it's not a Maus, it's a Japanese E100.

I use Google translator for english language

Lots of juggling in french text, sometimes translator in trouble with that. If you do not understand what I write, tell me.

If you’re ever relying on armor on any Japanese Medium tank you’re doing it wrong.

I don’t know how to act my age! I’ve never been this old before!
