I thought it was going to be amazing to get an arty with a turret.  Had been waiting to finish the tier 8 for awhile.  ended up doing pretty good in the tier 8 and I thought the tier 9 should be a cake walk.  Well 86 battles in and I have to say i am disappointed to say the least.  The turret is great but i am finding that the cannon just doesn't hold up in a tier 9 game.  It just doesn't seem to do enough damage when it does hit.  I do get the off round once in awhile that smacks something hard but in general its only doing 350 odd damage a shot.  Even the AP rounds have just bounced off tier 10s.  This fact and the fact that making silver on it is a pain.  I don't know maybe they adjusted silver on tier 9 arties cause 17000 silver to fix your tank doesn't leave alot of room to take a round especially on suck teams, which i have seen so much more recently.  Reminds me of the tier 10s now.  I did what alot of people said.  Find a place on the map and never move and you do ok but just seems if you don't hit every shot (good luck on that) your really not doing alot for the team in this tank.  I had worried when i saw it was packing a 155 and the lack of alpha it has.  i figured fire rate and being able to be more accurate would help.  Finding out it isn't.  I am guessing the 10 with the auto loader makes up for these problems but i have to say overall I am disappointed with this arty big time.  Anyone got opinions?

Isn't that the same gun as on tier VII? And it's an arty, so working as intended.

The 13. (Tiger) Kompanie, of Panzer Regiment Großdeutschland, reported on the performance of the 88 mm KwK 36 L/56, when their Tigers engaged the T-34: "First round hits were usually achieved at ranges between 800 to 1,000 meters. At these ranges, the Panzer Granate (they are referring to the PzGr. 39 APCBC ammunition) absolutely penetrated through the frontal armor, and usually still destroyed the engine at the rear of the T-34 tank. In 80 percent of the cases, shots from the same range hitting the side of the hull toward the rear of the tank resulted in the fuel tanks exploding. Even at ranges of 1,500 meters and longer, during favorable weather, it is possible to succeed in penetrating the T-34 with minimal expenditure of ammunition" (JENTZ, Thomas L.; Germany's TIGER Tanks - Tiger I and II: Combat Tactics; op. cit.).

3 MoE tanks: T-34, Pz IVH, Tiger I, Pz.Kpfw. T 25, M7, T-50

I actually stopped at the Lorraine.

I am not playing Arty so much these days, but I liked the "relative" mobility of the Lorraine. I have on my contingency list to grind to the Bat-Chat 155-58.

86 battles is still relatively fresh to get a good feeling for what the tank actually does. I would recommend to go a few decades more, and then regroup and think about what you could improve.

I watched a lot of battles with the Bat-Chat Tier X auto-loader, and it seems to hold its own, even if I don't think it is the most popular tank among Arty players. The M53/M55 seems to be the "goto" tank for a lot of players.

But get to the 155-58, and let us know what it is like.

Probably won't get a chance to play it.  I'll unlock it and move to grinding something else.  Like I said there is way to high a potential now to loose money playing these higher tier arties.

You can always make your Silver somewhere else. Personally, I have a discipline that consists in having a minimum amount of Silver in my account. If and when I get to the minimum, I get out with one of my Premium tank, and resupply the stash until I reach the point where it is safe to play my Tier Xs again.

Most of my Tier X tanks are earning negative Silver, and I minimize premium ammunition and rations.

Yeah, 155 55 was not great; it was just a stepping stone for the tier X.

I finished 300+ matches at 49.x% and was glad to move up to tier X, which is much much better.  It's the only tier X SPG I've got with >50% win rate because it has faster firing rate.  I also have American & German tier X SPGs and they are powerful but oh so slow to aim & fire.

Many choices at Tier VII/VIII but not at IX & X.  M53/M55 is the best at IX IMO.

Good advice. I use premiums to make silver. I dont play TT tanks tier >8 to earn silver, i maximize xp on those.

if I was a better player, I would not need to worry about silver. I see plenty of streamers who run rations each game and still are positive each battle.

This is my favourite arty. It's amazing fun. You can send shells down range every 17 to 20 seconds, the aiming circle doesn't bloom out because to have a 360° turret. It doesn't do an unfair amount of damage, in fact, there are many  many tanks that average higher damage per hit as you know, but personally, I prefer really pissing players off by targeting them and taking chunks. Don't get me wrong, there is also something very satisfying about taking out a death star in one shot with a big tier 10 arty, but then the reload, and the accuracy and everything that goes with not having much lateral fun movement, sways me in favour of the 155 55. I did own the tier 10 155 58 but that was excruciatingly painful with its almost 70 second load time so I sold it, Just preservere. You will come to love it. To me it's like a tier 9 version of Bert. You have good games and bad games, but death by a thousand cuts is great fun, and if you can work in tandem with another 155 55 you can wreak havoc sometimes

I am playing for the Machine; completed stage 7, yet to start on 8.

But I have seen a lot more Bat-Chat 155-55 around. However less than their US counter part. M51/M53

I think the 155 55 is one of the more enjoyable arties. It’s reliably accurate, good reload speed, and being able to relocate to help your team out late game can be the difference in winning or losing. I do find myself going for low heal tanks more often to finish them off as the average damage per shot is around 500hp. There still is a chance to get those 1000+hp shots if you manage to land one on their engine deck.

Current Tanks: T49, T30, Conqueror, Charioteer, Crusader SP, Leopard PT-A, Jagdtiger, G.W.Panther, AMX 13 90, Bat-Chat AP, AMX 50 120, AMX AC 48, Lorr. 155 51, T-54 ltwt, Obj. 416, T-54, KV-2, SU-100M1, ISU-152, SU-14-1, Type 61, O-Ni, WZ-132, T-34-1, 110, Skoda T 25
