I've just started the tier 9 tortoise on my quest to get the Death Star.  I'm really more of a recon/light tank player, so the slow pace of this thing is will make the grind seem even longer.

Anyone have any suggestions they want to offer, in terms of equipment, crew skills (ive got BiA, track mech, deadeye and clutch braking rotation@ 55%)?

I haven't got the big 120mm cannon yet over the 20 pounder.  Though sometimes the big gun isn't favored so I'm not sure what the consensus is on that one.

The equipment I've loaded is large spall liner, binos and gun laying.

Consumables Lrg repair, Lrg First Aid and small repair.

I usually will take this to town over open field where there is less chance to get flanked and brawl around corners.   Thing is so slow I'm not sure if I should potato the thing near the flag or try to get moving.

I did this tank years ago so my set up is probably pretty out of date but I went

Consumables: Large repair, Large Med, Food

Equipment: Optics, Rammer, Vents

Gun: 120mm

Skills: BIA, Repairs, Track Mechanic, All camo skills, Deadeye, Off road driving, Clutch Breaking, Recon

I would maybe drop optics for spall liner (back when I played it there were next to no good scout players) but aside from that, that set up got me to 93.5% MoE when I finished the grind.

Edit: meant rammer not GLD

I havent run the one I have yet, I’ve got a rammer, optics, and vents on it so we’ll see how that goes.

The gun handling on the top gun is pretty good from the stats so I didnt feel like it needed a GLD, I wanted to maximize the DPM with the rammer and vents

Tonight I'm going to run a time lapse and verify the thing actually does move.

I also used the rammer, binocs and Super Heavy Spall Liner, because of the death loader problem. In addition I also equipped the Large First Aid kit with Pain Tolerance, that way the death loader problem is gone, but as a back up I also had Jack Of All Trades...Always good for a tank with a death crew problem.

Thanks to xRoni7x for this awesome sig!

I’ve  never heard of anyone that prefers the 20 pdr over the 120, as soon as you unlock it equip it.

You’re going to want equipment that either strengthens your DPM or protection type equipment(spall liner, toolbox, etc.) The only non debatable choice is gun rammer. Decide between Vents, Spall Liner, optics/binocs, toolbox/torsion bars. GLD ain’t worth it.

A large med kit is a must have because the loader dies every other shot to the MG turret. From there you can decide.

For skills if you have the luxury of a good crew BiA, Track Mechanic, pain tolerance, jack of all trades. Stuff that will help protect the crew/sides and rear.

I really enjoyed the Tortoise but the game has changed so much that they usually just roll up to an enemy and die.

rammer vent toolbox

rammer vents optics

I play aggressive, angle armor as i go round corner. Don’t expose capola unless fighting a vehicle with terrible dpm/rof.

The art of the Tortoise is to know how many shots you can put in for 0/1 in return. e.g. you can kill a full HP T29 before he gets a second shot off.

consumables....

repair med fire

if you have preventative maintenance and firefights put food on, helps out a lot more than you would think

IMO clutch braking is a wasted skill/perk slot. If a tank is slow to turn, improving it by a minimal amount doesn't really do much. You're probably better off using something that may have prevented the need for slightly faster rotation in the first place.

Remember, it's just a game!

Time to blow through all of your saved up XP boosts. Went through all my accumulated x4 & x5 boosts and got the Deathstar in like 35 battles! :teethhappy:

Thanks for the feedback on this, I made some modifications to equipment and crew skills last night and did pretty well.  What surprised me was the consensus for for rammer over GLD.  I would have guessed that for a relatively fast loading tank,  it would be other other way around.

The grind would have been alot less if I hadn't used my XP bonuses grinding up the awful Swedish TD line.  What a ripoff of time and energy that line is.
