We currently have two tier VIII premium tanks that have autoloaders with enough damage to take out most tier VIII and lower tanks in a single clip, the Iron Rain and the Somua SM, and despite both having autoloaders with similar clip potential they have very different playstyles. The Iron Rain tends to be a sniping TDs due to its great camo rating and lack of armor, while the Somua plays best as a second line heavy tank thanks to its solid armor and good gun depression. In a more direct comparison, the Iron Rain has a much better gun in almost every way, especially when it comes to pen and DPM, and is a much stealthier tank, while the Somua is just a bit more mobile, has decent armor, and has double the gun depression. From playing both of them I feel that the Iron Rain is better simply because of how much faster its unload and reload times are, but the better survivability and gun depression of the Nomad can't be understated. So, which is better? Debate it!™

I don’t think it’s fair to compare the two.  They’re both very good at what they’re designed to do and they’re both designed to play different roles.  Someone who mainly plays TDs is likely to vote for Rain and the opposite would apply to the Somua.

T32A says hello!

If you want to be one of the 47 Ronin check out our recruitment post and then send a message to Prof935 (xbox) or dimka935 (ps4).

Have both...Soma is the clear choice for the most maps. If you know how to play auto loaders, then you’ll find out why it’s my favorite premium.  Iron rain is awesome too, just not as universal.

I took a loot at the numbers for them both on wotclans.br and see that the Nomad and T32A both have 52.6% win rate vs the Iron Rain's 51.3%.  Iron Rain is reporting more average damage, but lower win rate.

Nomad is also showing as having the highest MoE threshold.

I always manage to forget something. So instead of comparing the "only" two tier VIII premium autoloaders, I'll just say we're comparing the two premium autoloaders with very high clip potential and pretend like I did it on purpose. :P

The Iron Rain moves slow, but the Somua SM moves slower. The Iron Rain acts as an aggressive sniper on the battlefield. The Somua SM acts more like a support tank. Iron Rain would have to be a better tank to control than the Somua SM. It has slightly low ground resistance.

I somewhat agree, but at the same time both tanks being autoloaders makes them quite comparable. I mean, an Iron Rain can still play second line and empty its clip into enemy tanks after they fire, and the Somua can still snipe and perma-track enemy tanks from further back, even if neither are as well suited to the other's primary role. They're at least more comparable than something like the Borsig vs. the Tiger II.

The Soma has a clear advantage in close and mid range engagements. It simply absorbs more and is quicker to Manuver when getting flanked. Soma can mis a shot and not be devistated...iron rain miss really hurts

Somua is an autoloader than can brawl very easily. I don't have the Iron Rain, but the Somua is a monster.

I'd say that the Iron Rain is easier to play, but the Somua is better overall.

Both can do remarkably well when bottom tier, which is quite helpful with the games I seem to get myself thrown into as of late.

You can PM with with questions, if you wish. I don't bite.
