Developer Q&A

It's time for another Q&A session with PAINGOD from the development team in Wargaming Chicago-Baltimore!

Are there any plan to allow players to opt out of game modes such as Encounter and Assault?

[PAINGOD] None at this time as it would add complication to the Matchmaker, resulting in poor Matchmaking or fails at low population times.

Are there any plans to adjust the spawns for Malinovka Assault? What is its current balance at?

[PAINGOD] Malinovka Assault has a 45% win rate for the defenders. We’ll definitely look at fixing that. Malinovka Winter Assault has a 52% win rate for the defenders, which is pretty good.

Almost two years ago someone talked about doing some brainstorming and looking at a re-working of Skills and Perks, and also Equipment (maybe adding some new, changing numbers and looking at what tanks can or cannot use certain equipment). I was wondering what the outcome of this was and if we will see any changes over the next year in these areas?

[PAINGOD] We added new skills and perks along the way and attempted to add a new consumable that didn’t work out. After that, it became a lower priority and we haven't gotten around to it yet.

Would it be possible to sell Consumables for Silver in the future?

[PAINGOD] It’s certainly possible to do but isn’t scheduled work at this time. We give a lot of consumables away in Ops, so allowing them to be sold would mean we'd have to cut back on the giveaways.

Could multi-tank packs be giftable in the future?

[PAINGOD] Yes, it is possible and there’s a work ticket for that to get done.

When will we get those cool new maps they've added on PC recently? And will we ever get reworked versions of existing maps like Province, Pilsen, and Highway?

[PAINGOD] We are currently maxed out if not over the desired size for the client. We’ll have to remove maps to add new ones, which has never been a popular option when we have had to do it in the past. Needs some more consideration though as you point out there’s quite a bit new stuff from PC.

Are there some plans to have more seasonal elements, such as deep snow in winter maps and deep mud (when it rains)?

[PAINGOD] No plans currently, as new or reworked maps are more highly desired, along with balance and bug fixes.

It would be nice to see in the Garage how much gun arc to the left or right turret-less Tank Destroyers and Artilleries have. Are there any plans to add this statistic in the Garage in an update?

[PAINGOD] Just added a work ticket for that feature for 4.10. Thanks for the suggestion.

Is there a change in the formula incorporating RNG when you're shot, should it penetrate, would be sufficient to ensure the demise of the said target?

[PAINGOD] If you are asking if there is a 'saving grace' roll when hitting a damaged target, there is not. There are no helpers keeping a tank from being destroyed.

Any chance for an op to earn camouflage?

[PAINGOD] We added the ability to award camouflage vouchers in Update 4.9, so that would be a yes.

Will the IS-3A be updated to an auto-reloader, similar to the PC version?

[PAINGOD] Sure it can be. I’ve added a work ticket for it for 4.10.

Any plans to implement a tank rental system to try out a Premium vehicle for a small cost?

[PAINGOD] Not at this time, but it is in the wish list of future features.

What was the most popular Premium tank to be traded in?

[PAINGOD] I was just looking at that the other day for the last Trade-In Program. The tank that was traded in the most was the Fatherland. The tank that was most traded up to was the FV201 (A45) Black Edition.

Can we get a status update for being able to customize your tank with wiggly bits like sandbags?

[PAINGOD] Unfortunately that feature has been put on hold for now due to the expense of implementation and other priorities.

Any chance to add intra-clip reload to auto-loader tank stats in the Garage?

[PAINGOD] You happened to ask at the perfect time. Our UI team was updating things for the new Italian auto-reloader line and I was able to get this request in for Update 4.9. Thanks!

PAINGOD is referring 4.10 twice, does he mean next update? Previous update was 4.9 so shouldn't next update be 5.0, not 4.10? I'm confused now...

incremental, or minor updates would always come as decimals, such as 4.10, 4.11, and so on and so forth;

Major version change would come as integer change, such as 5.0...

This is valid for any software update...

Some thoughts and feedback......

First off, you’ve identified two things in the Q&A which will wind up in conflict with each other.  The Fatherland and the Auto-Reloader.  Most players rationalized their Trade-In of their Fatherland first because it was free and second because of the assumption that WG wouldn’t possibly alter another tank which had already been released(lots of salt about the King Dragon and Hollenhund changes which resulted in refunds being issued).  The prevailing assumption from rational(and sometimes cynical) players is that WoTMerc would introduce the IS-3 A(uto-reloader) as a stand-alone brand new vehicle.  If you were to now make the IS-3A into an autoreloader you’ll wind up with a heavy load for CS.  Probably best if you simply make it re-earnable.

Maps. Some of our most recent maps are simply reskins of existing maps that offer no appreciable differences beyond their scenery.  You could easily eliminate these redundant maps as you replace them with new fresh maps that offer new tactical challenges.

Lastly.... Consumables.  Would it compromise the giveaway structure if we were able to TRADE the supplies we never use? Say, 5 manual fire extinguishers are worth 1 automatic one?

PAINGOD says there's no room for more maps which is confusing because I think WG said last summer that there is no more that 50 GB limit for Xbox One and PS4. Secondly, PAINGOD, if you or someone read this why can't we have those re-designed versions of those already existing maps that players have been asking? Maps like Province, Highway, Sacred Valley, Pilsen etc. Since those maps already exist on console data files re-designing those maps shouldn't really make client size any bigger would it? Or is there some other problem? Maps have been re-designed in past (Westfield, Dragon Ridge, Karelia etc.) so why can't you do it now? Taking maps away is big no no, but re-design is fine and good for the game, it keeps game and gameplay fresh :)

360 is still a major component of the player base.

Is there a different client size limit on Xboo 360?

No, but there are lower object limits (like less.non functional bushes etc), so presumably there is the danger that if they redesign the map drastically to make it look different, that it will just break it in some way.

I think the map variants that we see now are used because they share objects that are already used elsewhere in the game, so the total object number is lower. That is why they play similarly across seasons of the same map etc.

I'm not sure about the "rational assumption" part.  If people chose to trade in their high-trade-in-value Fatherland for something else they knowingly took a chance. A lot of us deliberately did NOT make that trade and placed out bets/hedges in the other direction. As far as a heavy load for CS.......  pretty sure you can not restore tanks that were traded in, nor do I think that they could unwind all of those previous trade-ins and undo it all. Would mostly just be unreasonable people being angry - which is best avoided. Were it my decision, I would put out the replacement version and allow people to trade in their existing Fatherland towards it (at the same 50% value as other trade ins) if they still have it in their garage. That would actually be pretty fair to everyone, as nobody gets the new hotness for free and everybody gets the trade in value of their Fatherland (either from the earlier programs or towards the new AutoReLoader).

Maps. Some of our most recent maps are simply reskins of existing maps that offer no appreciable differences beyond their scenery. You could easily eliminate these redundant maps as you replace them with new fresh maps that offer new tactical challenges.

Agree with that. Start by removing Amazon and replacing it with something less awful.

Lastly.... Consumables. Would it compromise the giveaway structure if we were able to TRADE the supplies we never use? Say, 5 manual fire extinguishers are worth 1 automatic one?

In the past I have suggested a 10 to 1 trade in value. So 10 Manual Extinguishers gets 1 Auto Extinguisher. Trade in 30,000 Silver of retail value for a 20,000 Silver item you will actually use. Might actually need to bump that up to 15 to 1 trade in ratio to avoid the possibility of someone gaming the system by purchasing a ton of small consumables during a (exceedingly rare, but they do happen) 50% Off Consumables sale and then trading them in later. Even at that high rate I could get over 60 Auto Extinguishers.

I would note that Amazon actually has a different flow and pace than the normal version.  There are some drastically different terrain features.  I wouldn’t put this one on the removal list.  Panama, Scrapyard, Liberty Fallen, and Reskinned Port can all kick rocks though...... they play exactly the same as their OG counterparts.

If there is an issue adding more new maps, why not to remove the weather variants in favor of creating more space for better maps. Nobody will miss the weather variants I guess.

I CALLLL [edited]!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've low rolled so many tanks. I've rolled a 580 in the T30, just so some scrub could keep on playing the game.
