WoT has been on console for five years now, during which time players have routinely been told "It's not us, it's your internet connection" whenever something goes wrong. I wonder though, what quality internet connection do most of us actually have? Take a test and post your ping and download results in the poll.

You realise that speed test gives you best case scenario, the upload download and ping shown is to a server near your home likely owned by your ISP.

Some ISP's (especially in the US) are sneaky and prioritize connections to speed test to artificially improve the score shown

It will not be representative of your connection to the region the game servers is in. Let alone the connection to the game server itself.

the other factor not included is the connection thru the MS/Sony servers or their status at any given time.

Voted with my 100 mbps 50-70 ms ping connection at home.  My cell phone connection is between 8-20 mbps and has about 85-110 ping depending on the tower. Those numbers were taken using the Xbox network statistics.

Let's be honest it's standard company procedure to shift blame to the ISP. They take on the least responsibility for flaws that way and occasionally they are correct.

WG gets a bad rep because the kinds of things they have told people is an ISP issue are almost comically outlandish in some instances. Once you say something on the internet prepare for it to never go away, that also applies to companies.

You forgot the "I'm old and dont know what these other answers mean" option.

I only mention that because I'm old and don't know what those other answers mean. Where do you find the information?

Nevermind, I just used the link to check.

Ping 76ms

Download 5.39 mbps

Upload 0.49 mbps

Is that good, bad or as average as my wn8?

Eh, good enough to support three consoles (and another two or three other devices) at one with no latency, apparently.

You can PM with with questions, if you wish. I don't bite.

I’m not sure what my speeds are, but ever since I’ve run a hard line to my PS4 I have had no serious issues with lag beyond the occasional hitch.  Any time I’ve experienced genuinely distressing conditions it’s been a game-wide issue that WG has acted swiftly to resolve.

If you experience regular lag that makes the game hard to play then it really is your ISP.  If it’s not your ISP it’s some part of the infrastructure that transmits data between you and the WoT Servers.  If you submit a ticket to Customer Support they can help diagnose the issue.  Since you’ve already found speedtest.com that means you may also be familiar with Pingplotter........ CS will ask for a pingplotter report which can help highlight issues with your connection.  If you just do what they ask and provide the feedback and data they request it can really help.  Sending in tickets like this may also help uncover previously unknown issues and in finding those issues you can help your fellow tankers.

And this is actually the most important factor, as i had several services going perfectly while Live going completely bananas.

However, being things as they are, where the players with the best connection actually are pulling ones with worse connection (somebody heard about implemented lag compensators in-game?), actually better results are bad. Not like years before where the good connections were actually somehow OP.

Some might say i'm not constructive enough... Too bad i'm actually a deconstructivist

I only have lag when I play on the EU server. Even then it's minimal. I can tank and stream a ball game on my phone while my wife watches Netflix with no problems on the NA server.

Well I had sub 20 sometimes single digit ping to the battlefield 1 servers and that was before I got a gigabit connection....

What a poll, I get 8mbps on a good day, today it's 6.7 mbps. This is far faster than this game need so why have first option at 0-50 mbps? Superfast is defined as over 24 Mbps, In the UK less than 1% can get more than 80 Mbps.

This game runs well enough on 0.2 Mbps as that's what I used to get when using a hotspot. It's latency and packet loss that are going to muck you up not raw speed.

Um...my Internet barely qualifies as high speed, I'm up to 8 mbps and often my ping is very high. My ps4 is wireless to my router, router gets its signal from a microwave dish on my roof, which is aimed at a tower several miles away, and I assume he gets his signal via cable but I'm not sure.

Sometimes I get shot through rocks(how it looks) and sometimes I land shots through rocks because I've learned not to trust what I see. Replay shows me the truth.  I know you guys make fun of auto lock but it's my best friend, lock on and keep the trigger down.

My brother has the same thing. He is often asking me where he is exactly and if he’s still moving.

His sounds worse than mine lol but I totally understand. I've 3 marked a few vehicles so I can manage to play, although I still get heckled over my hit % cause I fire continuously if there is any doubt at all.

I doubt it. That they realise that is. I've given up wasting my breath.

Line of sight microwave links aren't as bad as they used to be.

For what it's worth, i'm running a billion BIPAC 5100 ADSL1 modem which is so dated and old(circa 2004) that if I used it as a router, it would lock up every few minutes so I have a separate router performing that and perfomring the PPOE(or maybe PPOA) functionality - I can't remember which it's using and it's also performing the hardware firewall functionality.   I end up with 7500kbit/758/kbit connection which at random times through the day drops out and needs restarting. At the other end, there's copper telephone cabling which dates back to the 80s and my telephone exchange a couple of kms down the road. I have thought about putting my XBOX in the DMZ since that would boost performance a bit but really don't know how susceptible to intrusion it might be.

That all sounds terrible but I don't understand most of it. I'm guessing nobody is interested in hacking your xbox.
