Virgin with Hub3 here, it has worked fine for me so far. My old Hub2 was a mess that I had replaced so often they gave in and gave me the upgrade.

I have been weighing up buying my own router and bypassing Virgins kit for WiFi etc. It has worked fine so far, but can be temperamental when using PoE or Power line Adapters or similar hook ups.

Aye i asked for a down grade to below 200mbps because apparently the hub3 runs slightly better.. Something to do with channels or so ive read. But no joy.

It's usually what they call "attenuation". It should with fibre be nearly unnecessary, but there is always something small they can do to improve a connection (they can, or used to, provider an interceptor that they sometimes called an "attenuator" where the issue was pronounced), but unfortunately if you live in an area where NTL and a few other pre-Virgin ISP's existed they installed subpar kit and cabling so sometimes there isn't anything that they can do.

Virgin have spent a lot to replace the kit over the last few years, but this often requires their own fibre and hardware which isn't natively compatible with the old kit (BT in contrast never had the issue as it's their own kit from day 1).

Noticed last week and this Virgin media engineers in the street marking plans/places.  So obviously they're going to be carrying out work. Although we haven't been lettered yet. Sort of hope it's new cables because thay haven't been touched since they went in round about 1999ish. When it was ntl.

NT-HELL were the worst offenders for below par kit.

Most of the cabling in my area is Coaxial cable with the old phone cable running parallel. If you get my meaning... And as i said i can't remember it ever being renewed..

I run off my hotspot.  Speed up and down is 17Mbps, latency is .48ms

Even when they slow me down to 600K the games runs smoothly.

Virgin media VIVID 350, supposedly its 362Mbps DL and 21Mbps UpL and a promise it will double every year. As ive said before i have a hardware problem and i get very high latency spikes every 20 minutes, something about a puma6 chipset running something in the background.. So if anyone is reading this and seriously thinking about getting virgin media in the UK.. Please don't its bloody murder and VM don't care.  Ran a test,  ping - 1ms, Download - 100.99mbps,  Upload - 14.88mbps. Nowhere near what im promised.  + if only my ping would stay low.

I was going to virgin, but do e some research, and same as you,the kit is crap, and your upload is crap as well, talked to the customer service rep who denied knowing anything about it lol, told her it's all over the web,but no joy,so I cancelled and stayed with sky, can't complain about sky,so until virgin get new kit,and upgrade there upload speeds, its a no from me.

Bandwidth has little to do with the quality of your connection, that's just how much you can download at once.  A latency / packet loss / jitter test would be more what you should be running to see the quality of your connection. :great:

Hm. I have very good connection and still have all type of lags and delays on world of tanks and not any broblems when playing any other games or streaming or doing things on pc. My jitter is 2, latency is 21 and dowload 155

Glad to hear that mate. Im actually banned from my virgin media forums. Told em i would tell anyone that would listen that its terrible that they wouldn't even admit that they have a problem and are no help. Even when i phone them im put through to India. India call centre said they don't know what im talking about. So that a bust in itself.. Ive had one engineer out and he took a look said he needed something from his van and drove away and when i phoned VM and told em Lol apparently i never had an engineer out. So i said please tell that engineer that i neever got, would he please return my login tab details lol and the [edited]hung up. India run checks and say everything they is ok and thats that. Even blame WoT and Xbl servers or the new one was my xbone was faulty. So i pointed out it was a brand new just out the box xbox one X. And yeh apparently it needs to go back to the shop because its faulty as well.

I agree. But when you don't even get the nominal speeds you are supposed to get per contract, the rest is academical.

When I was in the MS world, I had a lot of tools to permanently measuring the health of our systems and network. I wish I had them today.

I wish my ISP could treat me like a grown up. Can you believe that in 2019, they still ask me to disconnect my modem/router wait one minute?

I am old enough to have gone through mainframe computing and the beginning of email and Internet.

Yesterday again, I was asked to connect my ps4 to my M/R with an Ethernet cable, as a "step" to trouble shoot....

How is this any different than the people on this very board who used to forcefully claim that uninstalling and reinstalling the entire game would clear up any lag you were experiencing with WoT? Seriously, I think there are people in this world who get off on wasting other peoples' time.

Hub3 upgraded when i got the V6 box and currently having to use wireless, mate don't let them upgrade you until the fix the hub and puma6 issue. Wish i still have the superhub 2,, worse thing i ever did was let em take my Superhub 2 and give me the Hub3. Its heart breaking mate.

I only have the 120mb package (originally 60mb package when I signed up) , but I get 150mb download speed. Upload speed is limited to 15mb.

I don't use the wifi because the wifi on the superhub 2 is pure garbage. I get less than 10% of the speeds I get through ethernet cables and the ping is worse. Not to mention it goes down randomly for no reason.

4 ms ping

939.82 Mbps down

720.28 Mbps up

I have fiber optic internet. But... I still get the occasional WOT lag. I think it's either on the server end or one of the hops in between.

Hm. I have a really crap connection and don’t tend to have all sorts of stutters. Its completely possible that I do constantly and don’t notice and I might be just used to it.

Doing the 2nd one to Chicago Server:  33ms ping, 6 jitter, 270 down 18 up.

When doing it on xbox though.  It is more like 70 ping and a bit faster upload of 25 with the same down.

Packet loss is usally zero, but if the game starts lagging, and I check it on xbox, there is usually packet loss happening.

I often see a moderate NAT though.

I often reset the modem and xbox cache, which seems to help.  Actually, completely unplug the modem when it is not in use/observed.

Download speed and ping are flawless with my connection... it’s upload speed that destroys me. It’s usually above 10mb/s but will occasionally drop to 0.10 mb/s with double digit ping.

We'll see how good they are once I cancel their TV service at the end of the summer. They tend to get pissy when you break up a bundle.

Just tired of paying $200/mo for TV/Internet/Landline when I have only 3-4 channels I watch, and one of those is available on Hulu.

Internet Networking is only best effort network

90% of all broadband traffic is in a shared pipe at some point
most of this is what called last mile issue.

noise and bad frames in shared pipe causes a lot of endpoint issues
as hardware is trying to compensate for a loss of information issues.

Viewing web pages and text most folks will never notice an issue.

Playing WOTC you will notice it, the nature of this game makes for some changeling network issues when internet networking is only a best effort network.

I know is not much help but It nature of the beast.
