I was reading a post about the Scout medal and a particular light tanker.

This got me thinking, Is there one award that best represents how well you contributed to the overall outcome? Kills are the first thing that comes to mind, but generally the Reds need to be worn down, and it’s possible to get kills without doing a lot of damage. But it’s just a ribbon and not an epic medal or anything. So does Fire For Effect best show how well you contribute?

It’s my baseline.  If I end a game without it, I know I messed up.

It is the base medal that tells you that you did your job in that game.

I agree with Cell and Seagull... I can't think of any medal/ribbon that represents a consistent contribution to the team like Fire for Effect.

I don't look for it in the PBRS much any more, but it used to be something that I sought to accomplish... "I might not be able to carry this one, guys, but I dished out more damage than the Reds can take from me."

Pretty much this for me as well. If I have one in a losing game in a non-scout I at least know I contributed something.

I asked an EOD man how he dealt with the stress of his job.

He said he didn’t have any stress. Either he was right or else it became someone else’s problem.

Fire for Effect is what I want to see every match if I can, although truth be told I prefer to do double my hit points if possible as my own personal measuring stick.

I also like to see Sniper, Confederate and similar medals whenever possible as this means I have been contributing consistently all game (even if the kill ribbons weren't forthcoming).

It's a basic medal that tells you did your share of the damage and others did not have to carry you.  It only counts direct damage so no assisted damage included so artillery does not gets it and light tanks that only spot in bush don't get it.  Like you mentioned there is the scout medal for light tanks, it's usually posthumous award give to light tanker that has left the battlefield early in the battle.  :teethhappy:

Fire for Effect is a pretty low bar and good players should be aiming higher.  Penetrating hit ribbons are what count.  Everything else is window dressing, even for light tanks.

I'm not stealing kills, I'm handing out Confederate medals.

I agree that it's not too difficult for a decent player, but I'm not sure which penetrating hit ribbons you mean. Causing more damage than your tank's hit points would seem to fit that description.

Ok, so I’ve been thinking about this. Maybe it could be set similar to a stage award.

Fire for Effect, causing more damage than your tank’s hit points.

Level I; X1 damage

Level II; X2 damage

Level III; X3 damage

Level IV; X4 damage

I feel like this ribbon is far more telling about your contribution than say a Battle Hero Scout award for instance.

Medal names added.
