It seems like the smart way to play this map is to have 4 tanks (Heavy/TD) and arty defend the valley while the rest of the team pushes the city hard. The key words here are "defend" and "push hard". The valley needs to play very conservative and just do everything to keep the enemy in the valley from getting over that hill. While the rest of the team blitzes the city and road (goat trail). Nobody should be sitting at the back of the map on the city side unless they are on the road waiting for the right opportunity to move forward. Blitz! Overwhelm them quickly so you can flank the enemy in the valley from behind.

That is the ideal strategy, too bad about 70% of player base does not understand that.

If a 9 tank lemming train is going to go through the valley, they have to push balls to the wall.  Yes, a lot of tanks will die along the way....but you cannot let a few red tanks hold up 9 green tanks while the rest of the red team pillages the city and is starting to sweep from behind.

Hello all,

I can''t help but wonder why teams lemming train down the valley on Lakeville. It almost always ends up in a stalemate until the team who got through the city flanks the valley and wins. Why do so many people feel that the valley is going to win. 2-4 tanks is fine, but when 2/3 of the team is going there, its just ridiculous. What are your thoughts on this?

Its the Cliffs map for advanced beginners. Half my garage rests in the lake. Gotta love thoose bottleneck maps, they should just get rid of all the distracting scenery.

Makes me think he's either stupid or smart. Stupid if he can't distinguish a strategy and a tactic - let alone a good one and a bad one. Smart, if his strategy is to make his opponents as dumb as possible to easily farm damage no matter what the map is. A clue would be whether he pushes the valley or sits at the end of it waiting for muppets to crest the hill.

A couple of days ago I was having an abysmal session with teams full of bleach-drinking amebas. One of them was our lone scout on Lakeville. He/she floored the throttle and crested that hill and died in 30 seconds from the start of the game. Post-match I checked the stats: 7k games, 42% WR, 0.3 K/D, 0.2 damage ratio. Clone guy subscriber?

Only if it was a partially frozen lake and Death Valley was almost completely cut off by snow. Barely passable by light tanks and the faster, lighter meds impassable by everything else especially heavies.

The valley can be a viable strategy...IF...and that's big IF....the heavy tanks that always decide to go that route push through, knowing they will take some heavy hits.

The main problem is...almost every time...the heavy's that go the valley decide to STOP and not crest that cruial hill till the next one decides to crest and push through and even then its no guarantee that other heavy's will crest with the initial tank that decided to take the first hit.

I played that map not too long ago and I was on my T28 TD. It was me that had to crest the hill while the heavy tanks stayed at the bottom getting pounded by enemy arty. Once they saw I was able to make it over, take some hits and kill a tank, they suddenly found the screw in their oil pans and decided to follow...

You have to commit, DONT STOP, take the hits and keep pushing if you decide to go that route.

Try holding the Valley with 4 tanks when 8 or more reds come over the hill. You get overwhelmed quickly.

I agree it is a problem when you sit there slug it out bouncing most of the shots due to being hull down on both sides. Arty makes a big difference on this map.

Depending on the tank and the team composition, I am definitely one of those stated “Lakeville Idiots”. If I’m in a heavy that’s capable of hull down and their is no arty...why would I not? If I’m bottom tier in something with good viewrange I’ll spot from the middle.

Like i said, it depends on the team composition. I have seen more losses from the valley not being defended properly and the tanks getting steamrolled
