WHY IS the 17 pounder the main gun until the last upgrade? I keep getting thrown into tier nine and ten matches with it, and while amusing as death by a thousand cuts might be, it just makes for a truly awful experience.

 

And on a side note, I have killed every Italian tank now. Bagging a standard b was ridiculous.

No idea why, but the last gun makes the tank IMHO.  Still play it  regularly even though I have moved on to the 7/1.

final gun is the 20lber. & its really only a tier 8 once you have it.

I just got it and am playing it stock. I have had 1 terrible game and 1 great game in it. I agree that 150 alpha is pretty atrocious for a tier 8. It only really works if the reds ignore you and you can ping away repeatedly.

I struggled in it mightily to the tune of a 44% winrate until I got the top gun. Was agonising trying to kill 10's with it, or even contribute a few hundred hitpoints before your butter armour was smeared across the landscape. The 20lb makes a difference but it still feels barely punchy enough.

At least the top gun is on a par with most other tier 8 mediums, in terms of pen and alpha (except a few Russian mediums).  Trick is to try and get into a flanking hull down position.  If you can do this, pen not an issue (most of time), and you can rack up some serious damage quickly.

I think it's still the lack of opportunities to exploit the gun qualities that is the problem rather than the gun itself. The concept of the armour layout is better than the places it can actually be used.

I worked on the grind in WS.  Unfortunately WS has been nerfed and isn't worth the trouble now.  Once fully upgraded, it’s a hull down beast ( if you can take advantage of those places).

Stay in close proxity to heavy hitters and keep tracking enemies. And use your XP boosters.

What does that have to do with anything?

A meaningless RNG stat doesnt say how good or bad a tank is and it never will.

Yeah! You can't determine how good a tank is at winning games by measuring the number of wins it achieves.

They give us enough XP boosts for free now that no one should be complaining about grinding.

I'm not stealing kills, I'm handing out Confederate medals.

I know, but its a lot harder to do enough damage when thrown into a tier 9 and 10 match with it. But I am managing. Only 40k more xp.

I don't know, I can't imagine what my experience with the getting to and past the first package upgrades have to do with my point of view or opinion about the relative effectiveness of the tank during that upgrade period? Particularly if my experience with the tank was fundamental to my understanding of what makes an effective tank (and playing tier X in a stock Centurion is a problem many will experience).

 

I also never once suggested anything related to the tank being "bad", nor did I project my personal experience onto others success in the tank. I was  relatively clear, I thought, that I was referring to my ability (or lack thereof) to contribute to wins being impaired to such an extent by the early stock packages that I was clearly a dead weight on most teams I was on, and as such my winrate was directly affected.

 

Also, Winrate is clearly not RNG. It is a standardised distribution, and a standard deviation from a mean of just below 50% (as there are a small proportion of draws available to the game).

 

While most players will, by dint of being on an average number of averagely performing teams largely conform to the mean values of a tank, and therefore contribute to the battles at the average expected contribution levels, if a tank is X% below it's potential 49.9% contribution value, then there is likely to be an equivalent downturn in personal contribution towards the average.

 

In effect, if a stock tank means you are contributing less than 100% of the tanks average expected contribution at full upgrade, then you are bringing your team's overall contribution towards a win down by Y%.

 

I would math it out for you, but I really can't be arsed at 5 in the morning.

 

Tldr; if you think what you just typed. You are wrong.

I am torn, even though I unlocked the top gun, I miss the 17 pounder a bit. It was rather funny to pepper tier nines and tens for around 140 damage a shot.
