I'll add a vote for the tier 5 heavies.  Those are some of the most forgiving premium tanks for new players.

If you want to be one of the 47 Ronin check out our recruitment post and then send a message to Prof935 (xbox) or dimka935 (ps4).

Defiance Matilda tier 5 is a good tank.  And you can get it for cheap. If you do the pve stuff.

I've been trying to think of any tier 8 but I don't have enough first hand knowledge as far as driving them as I don't own many 8s.

And the ones I do own all have quirks. T34 and super Pershing rely too much on map knowledge and armor mechanics to be truly forgiving. The volk t44-100 needs map knowledge tank positioning and knowing when to reposition. Same for the Type 59. Last one I own is Hollenhound and there's not a higher tier light in the game that I would recommend for newbie's or below avg players (myself included)

And I just bought the Tiger 131 and I feel it fitss under the category of if you know what you are doing its a beast but if you don't... Not so much but very small sample size as I only have 3 matches in It lol

For a medium tank player who has reached tier 8 the sta-2 is a perfectly fine choice. They should have no problem performing above average in the tank.

The issue is most people don't actually tell us what tanks they run they just ask for premium tank suggestions. They get a bunch of classes suggested because of that. Frankly tho if you only play heavys and someone tells you to buy an E-25 and you end up disliking the tank that's not really on the guy who didn't know you don't play TDs is it.

MOEs so I can pretend like they matter

Shayul Iv seen you in the teams. The excelsior is in my opinion one that goes with the captured KV1. I would say you need to platoon with someone who is map aware, and can watch your 6. Take turns as one goes aggressive one backup That can work really really well, it allows you to get the t5 Heavy and have fun. I have played one or 2 games at wot and working like this can bring abilitys to acceptable levels. If I were you I would keep away from t 8 tanks for a while. For me its about havin fun and team dynamics. Hope it goes well for you

SU-76i, B2, Valentine II, Churchill 3, Excelsior, British Bulldog, every premium artillery. Those are easy to use and good for new players. I wouldn't recommend tier 7-8 vehicles for new players, except HMH: FV305 and maeby Mutant and Jagtiger 8.8

This would be my suggestion too.

Along with Captured KV-1 as the best first choice for a new player. And also CKV1 is available at discounted price from WS which makes it even better for this first position.

Don't rush me, I'm waiting for the last moment!

for newer players lower tiers is obviously the place to learn the basics.

Valentine 2 has to be the best for a forgiving platform to learn the game in and make a little bit of cash for those early grinds when you're permanently silver poor.

The Churchill III needs to spam premium ammo even being top tier, whereas the Captured KV-1 doesn't. Even being low Tier.

There Is a 2mm difference in standard pen.

First premiums you should buy as a new player should be tier V,

Churchill III (British)

Captured KV-1 (German)

T14 (American)

Matilda BP (British)

The newer player would be better off sticking to T5 PMM heavies or maybe the T6  PMM British Bulldog.

For the price of one tier 8 you can buy several tier 5s.

CIII, CKV, Defiance are solid choices. Excelsior is hum drum. Defiance is better IMO. For medium tank play there is the Kraft PzIV when available, and there are several good tier 6 tanks like the various T-34 /85 premium variants,  the T-34/88 when available, the Fury when available, and the Cromwell variants when available

I have fun most games even losses. After 16k battles I have come to the conclusion I'll never be one of the great players and I am OK with this lol

I agree with platooning would help but none of my friends play and I tend to take long breaks so the clan thing has never happened.

The thread wasn't meant as a oh [edited]help me guys thread. But more of a general observation of how premiums tend to get recommended based on t

How well the person doing the recommending does in a given tank without taking in to consideration the skill level of the person asking.

For a beginner? Already I would start by telling him to avoid level 8 and stay at level 5 and 6 a little longer.

One of my first freemium was the Cromwell. Not necessarily a tank easier than others but it is really fun. The Captured is a good suggestion too. The tiger 131 at level 7 and a recent discovery for me at level 8: the LT-432, a light that unlike other lightweight, forgives mistakes.

Since we've all mostly listed heavies as the go to what are thoughts on some of the mediums?

I like the Thunderbolt quite a bit as I feel it blends the Jumbo and easy 8 very nicely. Has decent armor to cover up mistakes and has enough speed to get you out of most jams and has a fairly decent gun on it
