I have bought both, but I have only played the FV4202 to date. I am currently trying to two mark the 4202, and it is proving to be a bit of a challenge for me.  I love the 4202, but I am curious to hear what everyone's thoughts are in comparing the two tanks. For those who had many games in the CAX, have you found a new love with the 4202 or is the CAX still your fav? What do you like more about one over the other?

CAX is collecting dust. FV4202 is just so different to the other mediums... it's a joy to play. Playing the Centurion AX, I would question why I wasn't just playing the Patton instead.

There is literally an Xbox 360 in a museum, and this is the best joke you can come up with?

I don’t have either yet, but a few of the streamers have been commenting that the 4202 is top shelf...... I think I even heard SinZ say it was the most dangerous thing on the OpFor and should be killed first if possible.

Have both, haven’t played the 4202 much yet. That’s gonna change with the machine contract :)

I agree with Very Classy, I prefer the Patton over the CAX.

^This...

For real... I had two 12 skill crews, nearly equal.  The only difference is one had Snakebite and the other had Snapshot.   One had been in the CAX for awhile, the other went (back) into the 7/1 to unlock the FV, then it went into that tank.

After playing ONE game in the FV, the CAX was done.  It has not been played once since I got the FV.

I simplye hated the CAX, it seems like it didn't know what it wanted to be.   It reminds me of how some of the high tier French heavies are really fast, really, big, but really soft.  If you are going to be soft and fast, you need to be a small target.  OR, if you are going to be as big as the CAX is, you need to armor/gun up.

Are the Patton and CAX that similar? I never bothered with the Patton line in the past, but after the tumor removal update I have been tempted to run up the line

Personally, I really disagree. Why would I play the Centurion over the Patton? Better mobility, better accuracy, better gun depression... Now, I would never call the Patton a bad tank; it has lots of awesome things about it, but I actually jive more with the Centurion. As for the 4202, I would actually say it's very very similar to the Centurion (turret is effectively the same, gun is the same, mobility is extremely similar, DPM is identical, gun depression is the same, etc...). The big difference between the two is HEAT vs HESH. Personally for me, the HESH lets me down WAY more than it saves me, so I very much prefer the Centurion. The 100mm standard HESH is already nice, and premium HESH is really a gimmick.

They are rather similar tanks, although the Patton is certainly better. The AX is a bit faster and is more accurate when fully aimed, but the M48 has substancially better armor, is much more accurate on the move and when snapshotting, has better DPM, and has a few other smaller details that are better as well (like view range, health, etc.).

As for the op, the FV4202 is definitely the better of the two. The AX is just a tiny bit faster, has a stronger turret ring, and does have HEAT rounds for premium ammo, but the FV4202's much stronger hull and upper turret armor, smaller size, better all-around mobility, and unique higher damage premium HESH shells make it a much better and more fun tank.

different strokes for different folks... as they say. And that's okay. For me, CAX is a walk-on role and the Patton and FV4202 are stars.

I'd say the big difference is that the hull of the FV sits about a foot and a half lower...and the entire tank sits lower.

So the LFP of the FV is much harder to hit, and the UFP is at a much steeper angle, so it bounces more.  Plus, the FV's ammo rack is much harder to hit.

The turrets are nothing alike.....completely different armor profiles.  The CAX turret has thicker armor "on paper"....but unless you are on a ridgeline playing hull down (which is hard in this meta), its thick armor on the lower front turret is useless.  When level, premium shots can go right through it.

I do like the CAX HEAT over the premium HESH though.

4202 without a doubt. Smaller profile, better armour. It plays the Hull down role just as well as the CAX but can brawl too.

Not my experience at all. We took them into a training room to test them and they performed extremely similarly. Shoot the top half and bounce. Shoot the bottom part, and you have a good chance of going through. Same on both.

I would say the CAX, the turret is a very noticeable attribute. As for the FV4202 the hull armour is nice but not worth the weaker turret and the HESH is a nice but can be a serious drawback.

I don't play anymore, just loiter around the forum from time to time.

Both tanks have weak turret rings, with the AX's turret ring being thicker, but the FV4202's "forehead" (the sloped armor above the gun) is significantly stronger. On flat ground the AX's forehead ranges from being about 250-280mm effective, which makes it strong but still very easily penned my most tier IX and X premium shells, while the FV4202's forehead is nearly impenetrable (I don't know the exact values, but my friend was unable to pen it with Object 268 HEAT shells even when on flat ground to me).

The FV4202's turret is actually notably stronger on ridgelines, and the AX's turret ring is still easily penned except by some tier VIII and low pen tier IX tanks. Plus the FV4202 is quite a bit more mobile and has a lower profile.

It really comes down to how you play each tank. If you just barely expose your turret over ridgelines to bait shots and take quick snapshots when you do peak over the FV4202's turret is far better, but if you're taking time to aim or exposing your turret ring while hull down the AX's turret is stronger (only if the enemy can't pen its turret ring though).

My 4202 has bounced multiple E4 APCR shells.
