I played a lot of battles today; I don't know how many, but from 08:00 am until about 2:00 pm.

Not so much success though, but I got finally a pattern on my play.

It seems like I am totally inept whenever the map we are fighting on has limited field span. And it does not matter what tank I am in. I just can't find how to play and make the best of the situation. Heavy, Medium, Light, I get wiped out so easily. I don't seem to unravel confined combat. I often find myself at the wrong place at the wrong time.

On large fields, I do very well. El Alamein, El Halluf, Skorpion pass... finish top of the leader board without a sweat. Berlin, Amazon, Ravaged, not so much.

Do you guys have to face situations like this? or is it only me?

Alot of your success or lack of on closed maps will depend on your ability to read your teams deployment and reading the enemy teams roster to know what positions they might take  or not and then adapting your gameplay when you get enough info to act on it.

Large open maps favor players who know what they are doing.  Distance makes it easier to deal damage without taking return fire.  Unicums love maps live Prok or Malinovka because they can farm a ton of damage from all over the map without engaging in a "fair" fight.  Small urban maps force close quarters combat on everyone and make a lot of elements of skill irrelevant (camo, using gun depression, hitting a moving target at distance, and so on.)

I"ve gotten fairly decent at playing  lights in most congested  or city maps but can't say i usually enjoy them.

This can be true in specific circumstances as I find myself doing extremely well in odd tank/map combinations.  However, if it’s a combo like Stark+Siegfried Line, I kick butt as in top 3 more often than not.  I am guaranteed to do well because I’m comfortable with that combination.  Lower tier tank-maps combos I struggle with.  I think I need to take lower tier tanks out more often.

Current rotation patterns like Ensk, followed by Ensk War - Icebound - Ruinberg - Sacred Valley makes me wanna go cry in the corner. I mean what is the purpose of paper armor tank on small urban map without clear los? :(

Good advice! I will add that these maps are more team dependent and early losses hurt more as does a flank being overrun. Sometimes you just have to be that lone warrior that holds a flank long enough for others to react, whereas large maps have a greater error tolerance. I think city only maps are pretty ‘meh’ tbh but field/city maps give players a choice, but I find them too constricted and not much fun

I'm very map dependent....but that is due to my style of play and tank choice.    I snipe and ambush/circle kill in fast tanks that have traded armor (and big guns) for speed and stealth.   Playing in a phone-booth or narrow hallway = loss for me.   I can't go "hull down" and trade shots in the face.

There are plenty of Uni's that love small maps because they know how to angle and exploit their armour. So I think while there are benefits to open maps, Uni's are Uni's because they can adjust to either style of map fluidly.

I prefer maps where there are more opportunities to move and circle. Doesn't matter if that's city or open field, but the ability to be mobile even in a heavy is critical. I am not a trench warfare guy (although I can do it if I need to).

At battle start, I move towards the location I have picked, while observing the team's deployment with the full screen map. On difficult terrain I quickly switch back and fro to avoid embarrassing falls or early drownings.

If I spot the team going single side, depending on what tank I am playing, I relocate or not. But it does not change my biggest issue...

On city maps, I am just a sitting duck. Possibly because it is my least favorite type, so it influences my "pugnacity". I think I come to accept the fatality to easily.

But I absolutely dislike gameplay when you peak out to shoot and retreat, that also probably influences what I do very negatively. I like to be on the move, and not restricted.

Still so much to master....

I have given a name to my pain..... the AMX 50-120!!!!

In the sneak out, shoot, hide, I always end up defeated, because of the long aiming time, which makes me miss my target almost 80% of the time. The reality is: I get hit, and I don't.

When I look at the report at the end of the battle, I can see that a vast majority of my shots have missed. Even at close range!

Thank god, I am one thou. away from the 50B. But then again, another long aiming tank...

I almost always stay away from the city on Siegfried line. Only time I won't is because I need to support the team, or if I play a light, I will rush to light up enemy deployment, to give the team an idea of what is coming and where.

My most successful battles are always in the field, in encounters, when the flag needs to be delivered. Providing the team is up to it.

Siegfried line almost always starts with the lights heading out in the open field, with backup using bunkers. A variation is when lights stay close to the city in an attempt to lit those that would venture in the field. The bulk of the heavies usually choosing to engage in the city.

If I compare with Erlenberg, when I start from the South, I never go East, but always try to spot/support the West. On this map, teams starting from the South almost always favor the valley, leaving a flank unprotected. This type of maps, I usually do pretty well with a light tank. I can stay hidden on the South/West corner, and with some snipers on the hill, it works pretty well.

I watched some guys doing pretty well in ALL circumstances, and independently of the tank they are playing. Ensk is really my pet peeve. But it is always entirely my fault, as I don't like this map, I don't keep a positive thinking. I need to overcome my aversion.

Absolutely.  I was just about to post this in a topic asking for help.

Maps that are bad for maneuver and greatly restrict line of sight are incredibly hard for me.  Those maps strike me as made for heavy tanks to just crush people since they eliminate most of the weaknesses of the heavies and mitigate the strengths of the lights and mediums.

That goes doubly for maps that are small.  There’s just no room to maneuver.  When your team doesn’t deploy right initially, it feels like game over...nothing to be done but eat the loss.

I generally prefer lights and mediums, so when there’s nowhere to spot, nowhere to play vision games...mostly, I’m just screwed. I have no idea how to add value if I cannot either shoot from cover or maneuver covertly...because I don’t plays tanks that can trade.
