I came from a military family, but could not qualify for service myself.  My heart and my thanks will always go out to our men and women in service.  Thank you for your sacrifices you’ve made for the rest of us!!

Many in my family are still serving or have served in all the branches of service though out the many conflicts!  Many thanks to them and everyone else that have risked it all!

I was going to write something about the tragedy of war but find that I cannot; not because I believe it to be any less a terrible business, nor because I find myself feeling a patriotic stirring that allays my concerns.

I simply am out of ways to describe the cruel indifference of the enterprise.

Instead, I ask you to do more to commemorate this holiday than grill meat, score deals, or “press F to pay respects” this weekend; I ask you to reach out to a veteran near you – be they family, friend, neighbor, or stranger - and ask them not about themselves, but about their friends and compatriots who are no longer with us. Ask them about the ones who didn’t make it, and listen to what they have to say. Share in the memories of the good times and the bad, meetings and goodbyes, and do them the service to remember and share these experiences with others. In this action you keep those people alive and with us, and keep them from being forgotten to history for just a little bit longer.

Monuments commemorate names and events. Speeches eulogize ideas. Memories commemorate human lives.

Memorial Day is a day of remembrance for the fallen, and the fallen cannot tell their own stories.

We will always honor and respect our service members, but there is one small issue with your post.

Memorial Day is when we specifically remember those members of the Armed Services who gave their lives in service to the United States of America. They have given everything for our country and accordingly the United States honors them on Memorial Day.

Our veterans are all recognized on Veterans Day and on Armed Forces Day we honor those who are currently serving.

But those who have given the last full measure of devotion for the Nation should stand apart and be given the highest honor; this is their day and theirs alone.

While it is good to remember those who served and died in service to the United States, it is not so exclusive to that purpose.  Many of the early remembrances or decoration days occurred as family reunions and also in the southern states to remember the confederate soldiers who died.

I have many family members who have served and died, but did not die in service.  They are buried in national military cemeteries.  I hope you are you not suggesting those graves should not be decorated for this day.  --That their service being remembered is incompatible with remembering those they lay beside.  --Or that only those that died in an active war zone are to be remembered.  --Or only those killed by an enemy.

I think it is good to honor those that fought and died in battle for the blessings enjoyed.  If you have family who have done so, please know I honor, respect, and appreciate them.  It is good for the families who lost loved ones to visit their final resting place, remember, honor, and pay their respects.  For those others who served and may have passed otherwise, it is also good for their families to visit, remember and honor their loved ones.

Even if you do not have family who served, it is good to honor those that served and are now serving in whatever way.  It is also good to remember those who came before you, service or no service.  It is good to visit your families' places of rest, to remember and share, and to honor their sacrifices.

The deepest value of Memorial Day is not about the pride of putting one group of people above another, in fact, it is the opposite.  It is about appreciation of putting others before self.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial Day full of gratitude for the blessings enjoyed.

I thought we were supposed to get X5 xp on Memorial day but instead I got 125% xp and 125% silver at the end of my first battle today.  I know there was an announcement last week mentioning the X5 bonus...does anyone know what is going on?

And you think this is the proper thread to post this question? Have some respect for the fallen heroes and not worry about a silly x5 boost. SMH
