Just curious what gun does everyone use?  I see the benefits of the big 5.5 but does the alpha really offset the DPM loss?

Not sure about others, but I would go with 5.5. It's baby Poobarn after all. HESH round with 200mm pen and 770 alpha, what's not to like. Here is Turkey Tank's take on it, I hope it helps a bit.

I preferred the 5.5 even though dpm higher with the smaller gun. Both work well I just seemed to perform better and more consistent with the higher alpha

I prefer the 120 for the dpm and gun handling.

If you want to be one of the 47 Ronin check out our recruitment post and then send a message to Prof935 (xbox) or dimka935 (ps4).

Smaller gun I found I could actually hit what I was aiming at

Big gun unless there 8 feet infront of me I found it so hit & miss

2 completely different play styles with the guns.

120 it's more of a sniper but due to the camo of the tank you really cannot play it like one, to be honest, so you won't be a bush warrior.

The 5.5, yeah just play support and follow up your tanks, hard cover and pop out and blast something for a thousand and break 2 modules, kill some crew and pop back again.

5.5 is the better gun, although it can be really trolly at times. Problem with the 120mm is you might as well run the Conquerer instead, as that's a much more flexible platform using the same gun.

3 MOEs - Nashorn, M36 Jackson, SU-100, S35CA, Matilda IV, Jagdpanzer IV, Archer, Wolverine, Achilles, T25/2, PzSflIVC

2 MOEs - Type 58, Pzkpfw T25, WT Pz IV, JagdPanther, SU-100Y, Boilermaker, T20, IS-2, T-34-88, Borsig, AMX AC 48, Charioteer, Plaguebringer, T67, SU-85

don't matter what the gun is, you need a gun just to grind and sell the tank)

although, this tank feels way better than conqueror with the same gun because of DPM.

conq. imho is awful, even black prince is better comparing tier-by-tier.

I'm the same, I have only played 9 games in it and at the moment I hate it, thought the Charioteer was a brilliant TD, so far the Conway sucks, hoping the big gun can make all the difference.

imo Conway is better than Charioter

and even better if you have a lot of X5 from the month event, X2 from the end of the event and premium time from ranked battles, I finished Conway in two days)

It's a tall Centurion, with a weaker turret and can be played very similarly. Despite the weaker turret, I have found it reasonably bouncy.

Both guns are excellent by all reports, the faster firing L1 barely warrants being called a "Tank Destroyer" which it leaves it exposed too often. Still a good tank. The bigger gun however saves on trading shots, and will make slower tanks back off more quickly.

I think that's my problem at the moment, I've only got the 120mm gun at the moment, which, although isn't bad, average damage around 400hp and reload of less than 10 seconds, it isn't enough to scare off a lot of tanks, which means you can get in trouble quickly. Plus, I find you have to stay quite far back if you want to avoid being spotted due to the atrocious camo rating, combine that with the lack of armour, means I get penned by someone sneezing in my direction, I'm having a tough time of it.

I figure that, at least when I get the top gun, it will make reds think twice before trying to rush me as they might get slapped really hard, with the 120mm most people can take 1 hit from that and shake it off pretty well.

The turret can bounce, but you really need to be abusing every degree of gun depression. I used to try and sit in a position where if I rolled back my turret went almost 45 degrees, as the mobility isn't that bad you could usually pull forwards and set off another shot before they finished reloading, only to troll them some more.

But like a lot of the Brit tanks, lose any terrain advantage and you lose all advantage.

I thought the Charioter was amazing compared to the Conway.  I just finished grinding it thanks to the 2X exp going on....but I didn't even mark it.  I got has high as 59%, but that was it.   Spotted too easily to often....  Once spotted, EVERYONE targets you because you are an easy pen (even arty).

HESH round with 200mm pen…. well there's a problem if you ask me because everytime i shoot theese i do pretty dull damage, i shot the hull of a conqueror (tier IX, not S.Conq) full front and did about 200p of damage, i'm positive i wouyld have done quite the same amount with simple HE round.

Other times i noticed doing far from expected damage on pretty unarmored targets.

So i don't get the point here, did HESH been nerfed so they are just money thrown away ?

I tried using that gun and HESH and i wen't from acceptable performances to total unefficiency.

Edit, alright i'm done with HESH they are useless, i shot the lower plate of a Centurion AX wich was coming from above i literally shot the soil of the vehicule with HESH, i dealt 330p of damage… and the guy killed me.

The top gun is trash, a true Failure, you miss half the shots, can't defend properly if taken in a dog fight, and HESH are a scam.

I revert to the 120mm.

Probably a bit off topic but I have to vent my frustrations towards this tank. Every now and then I come across a tank that I just loathe and the Conway is one of those tanks. I was looking forward to playing this tank to see what this baby could do. It can't do much. It does good damage and it's mobile. That's about the only two positive comments I can make about this tank.

Negatives:

1. HORRIBLE armor: seldom bounced a shot

2. bad accuracy

3. slow aim time

4. slow turret rotation

5. HORRIBLE gun elevation (10deg)

6. mediocre penetration: about half my shots would bounce or only do critical damage. FRUSTRATING!!!

7. modules are damaged easily

8. slow reverse

9. bad concealment

10. big turret/easy target (along with slow reverse makes this a bad tank for ridgeline fighting).

The Conway will go down as one of the worst (if not the worst) tier 9 tanks I've ever played thus far in this game. I'm glad I'm done with it! As soon as I unlocked the FV4005 I sold this piece of garbage.

Update: 12/5/2019

The Conway may not be great to play, but it's worth it to get the tier 10 FV4005. Today I had a great match in my FV4005: 6,500 damage, 7 kills, Master badge, AND....I earned a  Fadin's medal for killing the last enemy tank with my last round (1st time ever). 12 shots fired, 10 direct hits, 10 penetrations, 7 kills.

I prefer the 120mm gun, because the HESH rounds on the 5.5 with 200mm are too much of a lottery. Wonder why they haven‘t got a 45mm pen increase like the 183mm.

Yes 600/770 damage looks nice, but I want a higher chance of hitting and actually penetrating.
