A little background on myself. I'm a little bit of an above average player, usually getting within the top 7 on most of my games. I know my stats say differently, since I just tried out the game a few years back and sucked, but just picked it back up recently (hence quote on quote "4 years of service" with no tier X tanks and only 3500 battles), and I'm much better now than in the past.

I loved my O-Ni, the gun was great, and it actually felt like I could aim at the tanks. This O-Ho route is brutal, if a tank comes within 50 meters of me, it's so damn tall that I can't hit anyone with it. However, I've been playing it like I play an O-Ni, so that may be the issue here. Is there any particular type of playstyle I should follow? Something I should do differently so I don't get flanked by something like an IS-3 just cause I can't get my gun down? I'd appreciate any tips, thanks

Of course the person with the anime avatar manages to find some enjoyment with the O-Ni heap.

I got pointed out by a super Uni that the gun depression is lower at the left side cause of those 2 turrets.

So I try to have my right side pointed forward...

Best i can say

Well op here is my experience, your mileage may vary.  I finished the Oh-Ho grind, researched the T4 heavy, and that's where I stopped.  Haven't bought the heavy, nor played the Ho-Ho since.  The problem problem as I see it, is that Tiers 8,9 and 10 are the pot of crap at the end of the Japanese rainbow.  Take a look around and see how many you see in battle.  Very few and far between for all 3 tiers.
I'm just saying.....

O-Ni was way more fun than O-Ho. And Type-4 / Type-5 aren't very fun either. Best advice I have for you is to abandon ship now and save yourself a lot of time and aggravation. If WG buffs Japan, then resume the grind.

yup... avoid attempting to depress the gun over the turrets.

Aside from that I'll share how I ran the Japanese heavies when I went through the line. If not a strict guide maybe just get you thinking about the possibilities.

The standard gun will work great when you are top tier but the derp gun is more reliable when facing tier Xs so I preferred it and my comments are designed for that gun.

equipment - rammer, spall liner, vents - spall liner will help with arty and free up a much needed supply slot. vents are recomended for rof accuracy and mobility buffs.

supplies - small repair kit, large repair kit, food/fire extinguisher - cheap repair for usage, large for the repair bonus and use when called for.

relevant skills -

core : bia, repairs, track mechanic, clutch braking, off-road driving, safe stowage - these driver skills are all about mobility... ammo rack is a frequent target on these heavies.

early extras: pain tolerance, controlled impact, smooth ride, snapshot - help control your gun, give you bit more damage when ramming and give your crew just that extra bit to survive coupled the spall liner since you are not carrying a medkit.

When a person resorts to attacking the other person rather than focusing on the issue (aka argumentum ad hominem), it becomes pretty clear they have nothing else to contribute and are wrong.

Doesn't sound like it's the most fun to grind. I appreciate the response though, as IDK if I wanna sell this thing. I rode it out this far, and it's really my only superheavy. I feel like this one will take me a while, cause theres so many better tier 8 heavies, like the T32 and others. I'll definately try it out this way.

By any chance, have you done the Maus route? I'd like to know how the grind is for that one, as I just started working my way up, because I want to try the VK 100.01P.

I'm trying to have a heavy from every major nation, so I'm aiming for the T110E5 (3k xp from the M103), the E100 (on Tiger 1), one of the 3 main British heavies (on the Caernarvon), The IS-7 (started recently so on the KV-1S), and lastly both French Heavies (on AMX 50 120 and AMX 65t). Most games I use heavies, because I don't really know how to play well as a light, medium, TD, or arty, so I don't have anything above tier 7 for any of those other tank types. Are there any routes you recommend for these other types?

The VK can be a beast with top package.  It plays like many of the heavies, slow, arty and medium target, and getting to the battlefront takes 1/2 of the map.  I like it a lot more than the O-Ho.

Funny, I just wrote a small blurb about the O-ho in another thread.

LOVING this tank.

I don't understand how people don't like the O-Ho...or rather like the O-Ni.  From T6 on only the even tier tanks are good.

It's an accurate as hell fast firing derp with excellent pen.  Anything light or low armor is dead... anything T10 and we'll armored is getting splashed for 300+...

Type 4 goes back to the slow aim, slow reload of the awful O-Ni, and the Type 5 becomes an O-Ho again with more armor/hit points.

I was unaware that my 10 degrees of gun depression were only on the side. Just goes to show how little I know about this game still. Thank you everyone for the information
