I would actually prefer much more RNG for all damage calculations but tight distribution around the mean.

95-98% within the range the game usually uses, but occasional much higher or lower.

Predictable damage is unrealistic and one of the things that make the game duller.  

Penetration, however, can be much tighter values than 25%. 10% or 5% maybe.  Some armor is thick enough to stop ALL rounds of certain guns, and "lucky rolls" for that just aren't appropriate.

Absolutely, most of us are aware of the KV2 that held up a German advance for over 24 hours, because all the Germans had was Pak36's and Pak 38's (Untill they rolled up an 88, which the KV 2 promptly wrecked), with 25% Pen RNG that would never of happened.

Penetration RNG could possibly use being taken down to 10-15% instead of 25% (I would have much prefered testing that than no pen RNG at all), but damage RNG should stay the same. As for fire RNG, well, I don't really care at all (and as I've mentioned before, I doubt that most players even knew that fire RNG existed).

I would vote for "I don't mind" on all of them as didn't see much difference during the tests. I noticed a big difference during +1/-1 but not much during this one.

I would of voted for a 50% reduction in auto lock accuracy.

World of tanks Auto lock edition,  because aiming shouldn't be a skill.

Personally, I voted 15, 15, 0.  Before the trial my bias was 10, 25, 0.

 

For Penetration, I found that I do indeed like having some RNG in penetration, but definitely feel the current level is overkill.  0 RNG made the boundary between effectiveness and ineffectiveness too harsh.  I felt my tank/ammo choices quickly became a have/have not situation.

 

For Damage, I was surprised to find that I liked having a tighter distribution of results.  I think 10% is acceptable, but think a tad higher would be a tad better, so 15.  Also, I think that Pen and Damage should have the same RNG so people don't get all confused about which one has which RNG limits.

For Burning, I didn't really care one way or the other, so I put 0 to save some server processing.

Looking at the results, it does seem that the majority seem to favor Pen and Damage RNG in the 10-15% range.  Burning seems to be a more even split of opinions.

They did a survey?  Oh right, I never get their surveys.  Why don't they put it on their portal with login? That way it doesn't get stuffed with reponses, but people that are locked out of their e-mail can take it.

5% (or max 10%) for all these 3 things (penetration; damage and fire).

 

But the more important thing would be to test better accuracy with much higher probability to hit where you aim. :hiding:

I thought I couldn't tell the difference last week but after playing last night, the module damage was horrendous in comparison.

I did 10% for penetration as that should be reasonably consistent with each shot, but a little bit of wiggle room is nice to give lover tier guns a chance against higher tier tanks.

 

 I went 15% for damage as that can be a bit more random once the “significant emotional event” of the shell getting inside the tank happens. The shell could remain more or less intact or completely fragment for example. 

 

Burn damage I went 25%. Fire damage is and should be random once one starts as who knows what is actually burning in the tank. 


When the nice guy loses his patience the devil shivers.

What about "dispersion"? What role RNG play on it?

Here u r in ur E4, fully aimed in (plus 1 or 2 sec more to make sure ur gun is fully aimed) their side, 250m away from a stationary medium tank (can fully read those nice emblems on their side).

Pull the trigger..., next u c cloud of dust because that's where ur fully aimed shell went instead of a side of red tank. How much RNG was involved in that shot/s?

I don't mind huge damage swings.  I don't mind some penetration RNG.  I didn't seem to notice much difference during the event honestly.  

 

I do wish the penetration was dialed back some from 25% but there would have to be some tanks adjusted.  Also would like to see wild shots tuned down.  Don't think I should be missing shots when the red is less than a barrel length from the end of my barrel.

With lower pen variation base pen values would have to increase slightly otherwise everyone would be firing gold permenant

While I do really like your example, and actually do support lower RNG values for penetration, it is fair to say that we are talking here about a video game. Not a very realistic one too, other than feel and look :) 

 

Fun factor is important, and currently there are certain tanks which struggle to penetrate anything when placed as bottom tier in a game(does not really apply to tier 9-10).

 

I believe a lot of people still play tier 4 to 8 tanks and lower penetration rng would make certain grinds or even top configuration tanks unbearable to play. Making MM +-1 tier would help a lot but then we are looking at bunch of other issues.
