Even if I'm not a great fan of mercenaries concept I just want to remember that this thing is a reward not a Gift. So yes, you have to play wot and improve your game to have access to the reward. And No, reward isn't for those who play 2 hours a week.

So no offense but if you can't manage to get 2 high caliber you really don't deserve this reward

It's basically a free Tier X medium with few weakness... it should be hard to get. Food chains/natural selection can't make everything for everyone one i.e. think of the M60 on PC, they can't just make Tier X tanks obtainable for everyone otherwise there's no reward for people who put in a lot. Basically you have to put work in which is why I like this game in order to succeed you have to know what you are doing.

I agree you should have to put in the work. I got the Machine by grinding it out. I easily put in 1500-2000+ games to get it. I didnt buy any stages out, I even probably went 100k XP over trying to meet some of the requirements. However, Im 99% sure I didnt earn a high caliber the whole contract. Im happy to grind 2000+ games to get the Chisel. Its not about the Chisel, its about having an objective to grind to keep me interested in playing this game. High caliber without the penalty of people bumping you would be fine but I cant get behind a contract that relies on the unlucky dumb behavior of others to earn your medal hence no reason to keep playing or supporting the game.

This will be my first attempted Merc contract, so I have a question: do the requirements for a particular stage need to be completed in succession or can they be completed simultaneously?

Every particular section of a stage can be completed at the same time (so stages that require XP and damage have both increase at the same time). Of course you still have to complete the stages in order from one to eight, and no progress is counted except for the stage you're currently on.

Further the often subpar view range, which makes the usage of binos, and a more passive playstyle a neccessity. I also wonder, why tank destroyers feature lower hull point values compared to heavy tanks, or even medium tanks of the same tier. In the earlier days this had been due to higher dpm values of TDs compared to other tank classes of the same tier. However this has been negated for quite a while now. Of course, this might still be true for a Badger, Tortoise or SU-122-44, but the majority does no longer benefit from this rule.

A request for RaiBOT01,

 

Out of the 20 ish tech tree tanks available to complete Stage 5, could you run a database sequel query and pull up the numbers and break it out for each of those tanks:

1) What % of players who have used those tanks earned a high caliber in each of those tanks 

2) What % of players who have used those tanks didnt earn a high caliber in each of those tanks

3) Trend the number of high cals awarded per player against each players rating

4) Average number of games played in each tank per high cal medal earned

 

I'd be curious to see where the average player falls in this.

Im approaching this from the perspective of the average player, not from a unicum perspective. I checked your stats and you arent average, youre a unicum. 

 

These contracts are designed for the average player to be able to complete. Why average? because thats the bulk of the player base, where WG earns its bread and butter. High cal requirement moves the contract out of the reach of many i.e their bulk income source. Its a poor business decision.

 

I have zero problem, in fact I would even encourage WG to make a couple OP's or contracts for unicums with steep requirements that only the best of the best can complete and label them as such. Offer insane prizes as a thanks to the super dedicated players. I wouldnt compete in those because Im average. I wouldnt complain that I couldnt achieve them because Im average and they arent designed for me. However, regular contracts are designed for me and thats where WG dropped the ball with this high cal requirement.

Any news on how much time we have?

This tank will be a good excuse to train up crews and get a free tank.

I wonder if the cost to buy out a stage will be reasonable.

I think the % of XP you skip should equal the % of the gold cost of the tank.

I think right now it is more punishing than it should be.

I basically only play American and Brit lights and mediums....

The High Caliber needs to be moved down a stage so that it can be achieved with tier 6 and 7 tanks. (Cromwell's and T-29's)  

 

Tier 8 and above basically means tier 10.

I don't see the high caliber medals as that big of a deal. I've got ~6500 battles and 250 high calibers, so I average one every 26 games; by no means am I a unicum either. My best tank for high calibers is the M46, with about one high caliber every eight battles. These are reward tanks, they're meant to be difficult to get. Some players complain about the requirements, but if you truly love this game, you should look at this as an opportunity to improve your gameplay. Watch videos, thoroughly learn game mechanics, map strategy/awareness, and most importantly (this is something I personally need to work on), play patiently and make smart decisions. Again, these aren't made to be easy to get. The average player can certainly get two high calibers. Work hard to better your play and you'll certainly reap the rewards. Most of all......have fun!

I got a HC just last night and was repeatedly bumped trying to get out of spawn; (it was on lakeville and i headed to town and guess where the rest went); so i'm not sure the game follows this requirement as much as it states it in the documentation.

 

that being said it was probably my first in quite some time; T7 Tiger(P) and i ended up with a devastator medal as well which is also quite rare at my competency level.

 

Ironically, like you, i have 67 HC's in 2.5 years with 14k games played so it doesn't come often for me, i am average at best and it's more skill than knowledge (although i will admit I need to get better on the map knowledge but that won't jettison me to blueberry/Uni in some epiphany of map placement...

 

I'll give it the old college try but i suspect the contract will run out long before i get the 2 HC requirement @ T8-T10.
