So I just finished the Machine contract and I gotta say it’s a relief to be finally done with it.

I am not a fan of the whole Merc idea. Banana Buster, Beach Party, T.A.N.K., Turtle, etc. most have no basis on actual tanks. So instead of a Swiss line, or a line of Small Nation tanks we get these ridiculous things that require grueling long time grinding to acquire. This contributes to player burnout. Which contributes to loss of player base. Which in turn contributes to sketchy MM. Add seal clubbing in and we are not only losing veteran players we are not keeping new ones either.

I sold my previous 2 Mercs and used the silver to buy M48 Patton but am on the fence about Machine. In principle I do not like it but it’s prowess on the battlefield is undeniable.

I kind of agree with you on the burnout aspect. I suffered from that as well, because I felt forced to play and so I had to take a break for 6 month before I hate the game. The thing is, with this aspect you need to think about if it is worth to let you be forced to play or force yourself. It is a thing of own decisions.

Personally I like the whole Mercenary idea and the backstories of some of them. Especially the now hidden one of the crew of the Brick. But everyone has to decide for themselves what is good. The Mercs mean extra free content, which is a great thing.

Mercenaries are fine, but they should stop covering them in spaced Armour.

A few of them need rebalancing too.

It's your choice if you want to grind for them or not. No one is forcing you to. If you get burned out because of the grinding.... Well that's on you not Wargaming

Mercs are also bad for the game becuase the stage requirements make people play poorly.  Yolo for spots or setting fires, crap like that.  When I'm trying to play a normal game and win, and the guy next to me Yolos out to get spots and dies, it messes over the entire team.  I'd hate Mercs less if each stage was just XP or damage.

My dislike of +/- 1 pales in comparison to my hatred of Loaded Dice.

I agree.  I don't think the Merc tanks are good for the game.  I also think a few are OP and should be nerfed.

They should replace all of those silly requirements with Battle Hero Medals. Going for a tier 10 merc? Earn 10.

Mercenary tanks should be spun out into their own separate game for the kiddies. They could make that game as Fortnitey as they want, with tanks dancing on your carcass once you're dead, etc. Your gold, silver, free XP, etc. would all be usable in either game. WoT originalists would be left to play their game in peace and sanity.

I like em. Not bothered one way or the other about the tanks themselves, but the grinds are fun. They make me play tanks outside of the usual grinds :)

Along with this and what op posted I would argue they focus an already small player base into certain tiers and tanks which has an ripple effect on other tiers.

Basically with TT grinds a player has to play some lower tier tanks and work their way up. With Mercs. you can do a grind with high tier tanks.

Merc contracts are the best thing to happen to the game in years.  An alternate way to grind for vets, long term goals to keep players interested, premium time farming, a way to introduce new tanks as the nation based approach runs out of new lines.

Sure they could tone down the Xtreme attitude about 40 percent, and like all tanks, there are some balance issues, but overall Mercenaries have made this 5 year old game much healthier and more interesting.  I hope there are more new tanks and contracts after the Chisel.

I may choose not to grind them but that doesn't mean they don't effect the game play.

Disregarding the grinds/tanks themselves I would love to know how you arrived at your opinion because by what I can see the population did not exactly go boom when they were introduced. As for more interesting, I guess that depends on your definition of "interesting"

Mercenaries have been good for the game, in my opinion. In fact, I think it's disappointing they have not continued to release more non-premium Mercs, including a Merc artillery or two. Yes, WG could invent another TT, but this was a creative alternative. Besides, as the Italian fiasco has proven, a new nation TT is not an inherently superior experience.

Personally I'm fine with mercenary tanks even if some of them look like they would be made by drunk monkeys that happened to find welding equipment and pile of rusry metal plates. What bothers me in mercenary concept are those silly ops that ruin my normal game when part of team is trying to set tanks fire or get some epic medal. I'm already looking other games to spent my money even if I love this game.

This. I've come to accept they are in the game but there is no denying their effect on the "meta". I would argue more con than pro.

I can think of many other things that are game breaking 1 being autoloaders

World of tanks forums staff are bitter and bias against anyone they dont want or like, they hold grudges even after 5 years by keeping strikes against you  and will find ways to kick you ,sadly theres too many bad people who run this game and forum , i in good faith cant recommend this game and advise new people to avoid world of tanks

These high tier Mercs tend to skew the playerbase numbers, especially at night when I play.  Tons of tanks at tier 9 and 10, not as many below that.
