I'm really asking out of curiosity's sake, but it's an idea I've thought more and more could work in game and would add some more recognizable tanks that could attract new players (after all, many people who don't know much about armored vehicles still know about the M1 Abrams). The two ideas I most have in mind are the MBT-70 and an early model of the M1 Abrams that would share many of its attributes without the composite armor or smoothbore gun (thus eliminating that issue). While I don't know all of the historical stats of both nor entirely how they would be changed for the sake of balance, I could see both tanks as new tier Xs that could be both unique and enjoyable to play, plus they could potentially make for some new tech tree American tanks (which we haven't seen in quite some time).

So, what are your thoughts on these tanks as new tier X additions to the game? Do you think they'd fit in as I described them, should they be changed to play differently so they would fit in better, or do you think these tanks just don't belong in the game at all? I really do want to hear y'all's opinions on this, as while I certainly would love to see some new American representation and feel that these would make great additions I know that not all of you agree. Regardless, thanks for reading, and happy tanking.

We call it in Germany Pizza Hawaii. I sometimes really like it with Ananas (pineapple). A nice change between all the other kind of pizzas.

The best one is still the original Pizza Napoletana but only from one of the small shops in Napoli.

90 Seconds in an ofen with 490 degrees celcius. Delicicous.

And yes, please bring the M1 Abrams prototype to the game and as counterpart the Leopard 2 prototpye.

Barbarians, apparently.

Sorry guys, but if you put pinapple, pulled pork, jerk pork or any other BBQ stuff like I saw on "Man vs Food", that's not Pizza.

Call it what you want but don't call it pizza.

And let's not talk about the abominations I saw on "Man vs Food" or "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives". I still have to recover after that thing with blueberry sauce and pulled pork…

I'm not sorry for the rant. Anyhoo, tanks? Prototype modern tanks? We already have some tanks deployed in the 60's so I don't see any problem with that. I'm a bit against ridge fighters though, I'd like to see something more than the usual "find spot - go hull down - profit" cheap tactics - unless you guarantee SPG presence to act as a deterrent.

Do what you want, just don't put pizza and pinapple in the same context again.

Habanero Marinara, Mozzarella cheese, Ham, and Pineapple. Its right up there with Salami, Pepperoni, and Provolone.

What ever tactic you use is legit, but if the enemy does it then its a cheap unfair OP noob tactic.

I like the MBT-70 idea in particular. It could include the hydropneumatic suspension? Swedish siege mode mechanics might make it possible. It might be a very interesting ridge line fighter.
Maybe a German Pz70 version? It could be armed with a Rheinmetall 120 mm gun they planned to use.

The first batch of Abrams were referred to as "XM1" as they had not officially been accepted into service as M1, so that would be the model name you'd want to use. As for the gun, the first gen M1(pre A1 model) all were equipped with the M68 105mm(US L7 copy), the same as our in game M48A5. The gun stats should therefore be similar. Give it just slightly less DPM than the M48, but retain the handling.

Honestly though, while I'd like it, I don't see a fair representation of it existing in tier X without being the most OP tank in the game. They could relace the E5 at tier X with an M60A3 though and I'd be happy.

Yes, great idea, now we can have a true tier XII tank that can make those mean ole Tier X players know what it's like to play from -2 tiers....

So World of Thunder tanks?

If they can fit somewhere in the TT maybe. I mean the actual TT and not as a premium vehicle, but I'm not sure where that would fit without trying to put in another line of vehicles branching off the heavy line.

MBT-70 and the M60A3 should definitely be added. I voted to include the M1 (XM1) - the more the merrier - but in hindsight the hurdles would be difficult to overcome. Replicating Chobham armor and then expecting our current 10s to pen it is problematic, as is a 60+ ton vehicle hitting almost 50kph

MBT-70 could be made to work by balancing the gun stats.  It would be a bit less nimble than the Sheridan, but with worse camo values and a more dependable gun.  The gun would have slow shell velocity, but would trade very nicely.  It would have the feel of the Hellcat 105 gun but in tier 10.  Also, it would probably need to wait for the suspension mechanics to be ported over from PC.

XM1 would have to be butchered beyond recognition for balance, is beyond the date range, and includes composite armor.

IMO, they have already proven they are unable to get the more 'modern' tanks into tier 10 with their historic strengths intact.  Trying to shoehorn more without some other tech tree adjustments would be a train wreck.

Examples:

-Chieftain in game is far less armored frontally than it should be.  They could have made it work by giving it lowish DPM in exchange for more solid armor.
-M48 in game had to be buffed WAY beyond its real armor to be competitive at tier 10.  It really should have kept the historic armor profile and been a tier 9 (with the M47 at tier 8 and the M26/46 at tier 7).
-M60 in game is far faster than it should be in an attempt to make it competitive at tier 10, when it should really be a tier 9 with historic mobility.  The competitive tier 10 would be the M60A1, which would have armor and mobility similar to what the M48 was buffed to.

I'm all for balance - but it should be done without sacrificing historic strengths, IMO.

The development program had TWO prototypes, the general motors version widely known as the XM1 (probably to distinguish the two) and the (chrysler?)General Dynamics protoype which won the competition and became the accepted production model M1.

The M1 proto had a few slight differences from the production model, but the general motors XM1 looked very different from an M1 Abrams, it had a glacis that looked like a  sharper nose than seen on the centurion and the turret looked similar to the original challenger turret.  The XM1 also had a very powerful diesel engine instead of the turbine.

It’s been a while since I read RP Hunnicutt’s book but it’s a fascinating read, there was a huge power struggle and a lot of political stuff for years before general dynamics finally won.

The prototype M1 couldn’t be the Chrysler one as that had both composite armor and a turbine engine, both taboo for WoT. Without those it wouldn’t be all that different from the T110E5 other than the gun.

Also, pineapple on pizza is an abomination.

Bonus Trivia Infodump: Hawaiian Pizza, aka pizza with pineapple on it, was invented in Toronto Canada and not in Hawaii or even California.

Bonus Bonus Trivia Infodump: It is cheaper to buy a pineapple in the continental US than on any of the islands of Hawaii.
