It's back and with a friend!!

+1-1 Matchmaking with Loaded Dice event combined!

About +1-1 Matchmaking event

During this event play against other vehicles that are no more than one tier above or below yours.

Please note that Preferential Matchmaking tanks will be adjusted to play with vehicles of the same tier or one tier lower.

About Loaded Dice Event

Currently, Penetration, Damage, and Burn Damage are calculated in-game within a variable range from their listed average values (sometimes referred to as Random Number Generation or RNG). Basically, every time you hit your opponent, the amount of armor that your shells will penetrate and the amount of damage that you deal is within a +/-25% range from the displayed average values.

For example, let’s say that you are firing AP shells that have a penetration value of 100 and a damage value of 100. Every shell you fire will have the effects of the round calculated in two stages:

100 Penetration (+/- 25%) then 100 Damage (+/- 25%)

In this example, every AP shell you fire would have a possible Penetration range of 75 – 125mm worth of armor (with the exact value being a random number generated from within this range). Likewise, shells that penetrate would then have a possible Damage range of 75 – 125 damage (again, with the exact value being a random number generated from within this range).

Known issues:

Please note that during the event, the in-game UI will still display the usual range of values for Penetration and Damage and will not reflect the changes made during the event.

The Loaded Dice Event!

During the Loaded Dice Event, your shells will always penetrate the exact amount of armor listed in-game (100mm worth of armor using the example above). Damage will continue to vary, though damage will be toned down to +/- 10% of the listed value (so a shell listed as doing 100 damage will randomly inflict between 90 – 110 damage during this event).

To make things easier to understand, here is what you can expect during the Loaded Dice Event:

Furthermore, the Aiming reticle color in-game will now indicate the following while the Loaded Dice Event is active:

Please let us know what you think about the event and what your experience has been like when battling other tankers!

Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

Thanks and ROLL OUT!!!

Why don't you just call it easy mode. Or potato mode. Or no skill mode. I get that you need to get more players, and most of the ones you're trying to entice back are stupid, but can't you just make it cross play instead of ripping the flesh from wot's bones? The reason this game has been around for 8 years is that it's a good game. You have in console for 20 mins, and already you've torn it down to a barely entertaining, easy, shadow of it's former self. You console simpletons a [edited]morons. How's that for feedback. Eat it up.

Loaded Dice event the way it is, is bad for the game. Instead of zero RNG it should be +/-10%.

+1/-1 is tons of fun to play.

RNG can't be zero though

Like +1, do not like loaded dice element. As others have said, RNG can't be zero, perhaps 10%?

This +1 -1 has been the best one yet! It seems like the win\loss ratio is better and fixed. I'm not seeing a slew of games with one team dominating the other team anymore.

And I really like the changes with damage, seems right and accurate on to me... I don't get what all the complaints are about. I for one think it's a step in the right direction!

What an absolute joke haha every match I saw was a one sided land slide, seeing high caliber (122, 152, 17cm) premium rounds bouncing of light tanks, arty, or aimed flush side shots, teams stacked with heavies and TD on city maps or TD and lights/ mediums on open maps, teams stacked with top teir tanks and the other stacked with the low, didn't matter how skilled the player was it was weather u got put on the winning team. U fire numerous shells to only pen 3 or 4 times.

I like it! The matches do seem well balanced. I'm still getting destroyed when I do something stupid, but I feel more competitive against the opponents I'm seeing.

I personally don't like +1/-1 but as long as the preferential matchmaking tanks are treated accordingly I don't suppose there's anything wrong with it if it helps WG devs with matchmaking or some similar concern. I'd prefer to keep the old matchmaking, however, because it makes for more interesting games. For every battle that someone might whine about being bottom tier there is another battle in which they get to be top tier. It's also satisfying to pull off a good game when two tiers down. I suspect that most people who would prefer +1/-1 need to spend more time learning the game mechanics and gitting gud.

As for loaded dice, I think it makes the game tremendously less pleasant. Variability on pen stats can mean a lot. Sometimes you have a shot at some tough armor that can save your life if you're lucky enough to roll high. You can take a questionable shot later in the game and hope to penetrate. You can occasionally be saved by a lucky bounce. That's a big part of what makes things interesting. The same applies to damage calculation. Taking the variability out of that means consistency at the expense of a lot of great moments. No more one-shot high rolls with big guns. No more lucky low-rolls that let you survive and get a kill. Just the same boring result time after time.

I suppose if there was a good reason for it it would make some sense but there just isn't. As far as I can tell this is just the developers trying random crap to try and shake things up because they've run out of imagination. I'm sorry if that's not the case but looking at this and what the PC devs are testing with HE shells and considering work is being put into this instead of new content makes me wonder. You could be working on getting us away from carrying 15 year old consoles and get us into bigger maps, longer render ranges, more nuanced camo calculation, smoke screens, better foliage, new vehicles, and more. This feels like a solution without a problem.

If this is a response to players complaining because they're dying too much you need to finally get around to doing what you should have done YEARS ago and actually begin teaching your players how to play. There are a significant number of players who think having tier 10 tanks means they're good at the game. You've designed a game that allows players to fail their way to the top completely ignorant of basic aspects of game mechanics and then whine because they get outspotted and fragged or somehow don't yet understand how to use their armor well and can't bounce shots. Build in better tutorials that fully explain game mechanics. Increase repair costs at high tiers and let the game recommend tutorials, online materials, and forums to player who are losing too much silver. Help people git gud instead of lowering the bar.

You're making a very interesting and exciting game less so for no apparent reason.

Light tanks make or break a match. So stop committing suicide in the first minute. Camo, view range, bushes, and spotting. Please do it right or leave it up to those of us that know how to.

This mode has completely changed game play for the better!

  • No more matches as the only bottom tier in a +2 and feeling useless and almost completely dependent on the performance of your teammates
  • Tanks with lower standard penetration are now much more reliable and interesting to play. Smaller rounds with high dpm and low damage are more consistently able to reach the intended DPM and make the tank competitive as intended(Think of the frustration of auto-loaders and RNG of pen and dam values)
  • By removing a large amount of RNG, players are able to push the skill cap higher and are rewarded for more intelligent play. Players can now make tactical decisions of when to strike and where to move on the map with more confidence.
  • TEAMWORK! Planning and coordinating teamwork based on damage and enemy health numbers being more predictable. Encourages tactics
  • No more low roll damage/penetration values that are immensely frustrating and limit players from doing well. Nothing more frustrating than positioning, taking aim, timing the shot, and....low roll.
  • Personally, I now aim more carefully at tanks. More often aiming for specific weakspots and maneuvering to expose vulnerable spots than just auto-aiming and rolling the dice with RNG. Why try and make an intelligent play when it's safer and more effective to play recklessly without any attempt to hit weakspots? Just crest a ridge with auto-aim, fire, then back down. Gets old fast. I've been burned for cresting and trying to manually aim at tanks before. The extra time spent exposed is not worth it, as the round is too unpredictable. Until now!
  • Some situations where the only option is to fire with a 50% chance to pen, and sitting with the trigger held down wondering which round will go in. Very boring gameplay.
  • Player stats are also more accurate at showing a players skill with the RNG of matchmaking, damage, and penetration values hindering/helping affect those stats.
  • I've noticed: Less heavily lopsided games (Steamrolls, etc), less suicide scouting from bottom tier tanks of every class, less reckless play in general, more positivity in chat (Much nicer Xbox messages. "GG" instead of "You got lucky punk").

I do suggest that penetration falloff still be a mechanic. It encourages players to move forward and attack rather than sit and camp in the back all game. The values should be consistent and not too punishing. Tank destroyers are designed to be at a distance! So lower pen TD's shouldn't be useless at long range.

Devs, I've been playing this game for over 5 years now. These changes with matchmaking and pen/damage values are what I've been asking for since the beginning. These changes are making the game much more enjoyable than it ever has been. When I play normal matches when these events are over, I don't enjoy playing and stop after a few games (good or not). Please consider making these changes permanent, or at least having these events often.

Thank you for continuing to work on improving the game and listening to player feedback

The Loaded Dice event is appropriately named.

We already know the result, so the game gets boring quickly.

+/- 25% is excessive. And IMHO the matchmaker is much better with a +1/-1 variance. It opens up the middle tiers and keeps the lemming tier 10 obsession at bay. These events make it more of a game and less a casino experience. .

Gameplay has been changed for the better? Hoped onto the game fresh this late morning and just lost 4 games in a row because of the deranged matchmaking. How many games am I suppose to try and carry exactly? Was carrying randoms the goal of this game, or what is it? Help me understand the elaboration of balancing dementia. Was a developer and/or its team recently diagnosed with a disorder? What is going on exactly?

+1 / -1 matchmaking has allowed me greater potential to contribute to a game than standard matchmaking.

The Loaded Dice element has encouraged me to play more cautiously. I have not made as many large-damage hits as I have during default play.

Good overall experience for me with both the match maker and rng. I think some of the posts above forgot about the rng of accuracy. Just because your reticle shows red doesn't mean the round will land there.

Matchmaking as awesome, never had so much fun playing my T8 prem tanks.

Don't like the rng Event. It's a big buff for Td's because you can barely bouce their shots now. Some tanks really struggel now.

Few examples:

My Alpine tiger has 250 prem pen and a Centurion has 254mm tuuret armor, with the rng event i have 0% chance of a penetration instead of the ~45% i had before.

My IS6 has 217 prem pen while the Hatch (aka "Weakspot") of the VK100 has 220mm armor. Again 0% chance of penetrating a Weakspot with prem ammo.

And the Turret of my King Tiger is far mor unreliable againg the same tier since every T8 heavy has now a 100% chance of penetrating the cheeks.

The whole 100% or 0% chance is a bit too much. Tds like skorpion G with 311 prem pen can even more autoain than before.

               - Execute Order 66 -

3 marked tanks: 70

Couldn't agree more with every word here, all console have done over the past year is drive the knife further and further into WoT with every update. They MURDER each and every new tank that's brought into the game according to the 'SpReAdShEeT' and they're are just broken shells of their former selves and, as someone who's played the game regularly since the console release, it really is sad to see. All in the name of "WeRe NoT pC". Well at least you've accomplished that. We're no longer PC anymore, because PC is World of Tanks. Console is now just WoTs special cousin.

+-1 is great. Makes me want to start playing more regularly again. Further tweaking is needed for PMM tanks and OP tanks like the V/IV but tweaking for the latter tank has been needed since its birth. Agree a slight range of pen values adds to the game to keep it interesting.
