I don't post here very often (or even lurk as much as I used to) but I just wanted to say thanks for supporting the ol' gal as long as you did.  I've been playing since the second round of the 360 beta back before even the venerable Tiger tank with a zippo lighter under every LFP was first introduced and appreciate the years of continued update and enjoyable play since with the occasional break every once in a while.  The announcement hints that you might be porting the game over to the upcoming generation of console and I hope to rejoin the community when/if they're released.   With almost exactly 7 years (at least since I joined the forum which IIRC was during the beta) and probably 60k games when the cutoff arrives, I've definitely gotten more enjoyment out of this game than any other single title in 30+ years worth of gaming.

This revelation begs the question;

WG stated policy has been they would support the 360 as long as MS does.

Has MS given a sunset date for the 360?

If Microsoft kill off the 360, it kills off the back compatibility of Xbox one. So unless they're making some other system to support back compatibility going forward I don't think it's in their best interests to kill 360.

More likely WG have been released from their contractual obligation to support 360 as its no longer beneficial for them to do so.

Or WG is financially able to buy their way out of it due to all those tier 8 premiums they sell

Xbox 360 support for Defiance are also shutting down on same date as WoT. Coincidence? Perhaps. Or Microsoft is finally pulling the plug on Xbox 360... and they probably have some workaround planned for backwards compability.

Defiance was still going? Probably the longest running Trion world's game in that case, surprised they even gave warning.

I wouldn't take Trion worlds shutting a game down as a sign of anything. They do it all the time. Still haven't forgiven them for Atlas Reactor.

That was my assumption as well.   Microsoft has been touting the One Ring to Rule Them All (hopefully not red!) family of compatible consoles going back to the OG xbox and have been actively selling and gifting 360 games so I doubt they're ending online support.  It's possible given that they prematurely killed the OG xbox one or two years after the 360 came out....

I don't necessarily think that killing 360 support kills the backward compatibility.  They can stop 360s from logging into 360 game severs, but still allow Xbox One to access those servers.  While Xbox one was using them as well, there really was no reason to stop the 360 from also being able to access them.  But perhaps now they no longer want to do OS support on the 360.

If the 360 is still logging into game servers, they still have to keep updating the software on the 360.  But with 360 gone, they can just keep the Xbox One updated while still keeping the servers open.

Very true.  I don't know if I'm reading too much into it but the fact that you're effectively loading up a native console environment to play those backward compatible games (assuming that's true on xbone like it is on 360 for OG xbox) though makes me think or at least hope that they'll let it keep chugging on.

There has been no official word from Microsoft about dropping 360 support. It’s most likely an indication of contractual agreements running out or being terminated. Right now it’s one big speculation engine for us.

Back compatibility for Xbox one is just loading up a 360 emulator. It looks like a 360, functions like a 360.

They might downsize the number of servers if not many people are using them but there's no sense turning them off completely. It doesn't cost them any extra.

I understand how the compatibility works. But keeping the 360 system updated for security is probably different between the systems. The emulator is running on top of the One system software, so that gives a measure of security based on whatever the One has built in for that purpose.

Having the 360 directly connected to the internet is probably a less secure configuration that requires periodic updates. If that's true, that could be the basis for only having the 360 servers running for One backward compatibility.

The 360 security was broken years ago. Microsoft gave up trying to patch that leaky hole.

There hasn't been any 360 OS or security updates in about a year.

Definitely thanks. I have put more in and gotten more out of Tanks on 360 than any other game.

Well, I just updated my 360 to see if I can get the upgrade package, and there were two system updates it applied. I last updated my 360 in like January. Something was pushed out in the last few months

You will keep everything. Just log onto the new Xbox console and all your stuff will be there. It’s all stored on the server, not your machine.

Finally the 360 will be gone. Don't get me wrong, I like the 360 in general but it's a bottle neck for WoT.

I wish we had WoT 1.0 HD version on consoles and Cross Play between Sony and MS.
